Avatar f tn Hi allegra_dl, I believe that Ms. Paderla is right. You might be suffering from allergic rhinitis and so as your mother and grandmother. This is a condition wherein sometimes people inherit the disease and may pass to other generations. This kind of allergy does not only concern weather changes but also other allergens like dust mites, pollens, etc.
Avatar f tn I think the last time I sneezed was nearly a month ago in mid November and I dont know if i hit my eyeball too hard or if holding in a sneeze by accident a few weeks ago is what has triggered this issue. I read that the nerve that specializes in triggering your brain to make your respiratory system sneeze can get effected by either a brain issue so i'm wondering what is wrong and if it will ever come back to normal.
Avatar f tn It will not cause damage or cause significant loss of brain cells at all. Try to talk to this person not to hit you or anybody else's head because it is not a good practice.
Avatar f tn This is due to the number of cells in the brain decreasing with age, thus resulting in generalized atrophy. Some areas of the brain may shrink more than others, like the hippocampus, which is involved in memory. " http://www.livestrong.com/article/161959-what-are-the-causes-of-brain-atrophy/ Unfortunately all i can really tell you is that moderate global atrophy 'may be' related to what's happening to you but you really need to discuss what this all means with your doctor.
Avatar f tn No. Point is no one knows how many brain cells you lose by what. Even by drinking alcohol you can lose brain cells. Why people suffer after concussion may not be just because they lost brain cells. It could be various other reasons. Brain is the most complex machine in the world. For peace of mind consult a doctor/get an MRI if needed. If you have no symptoms they won't do any scanning probably and you are fine and you move on.

Avatar f tn I was up last night googling the same thing!! I'm having terrible allergies and sneezing about 20 times a day and every time I get shooting pains! Like texasangel said, best relief is leaning forward holding your stomach so the ligaments aren't stretching any further. The worst is lying on your back when you sneeze..ouch!
20923866 tn?1668021361 When a vitrectomy is performed and the retina is lasered back to the RPE/choroid, are the laser spot welds the only things holding the retina back in place where the tear was, or does the retina eventually heal/mend back together with the underlying RPE/choroid in a manner that is the same as it was before the tear?
2125089 tn?1386343083 I have a newborn baby, and I thought it was from me falling asleep in a weird position while holding him. A week later I caught a bad cold, drainage horrible, lost my voice. I am breastfeeding so I didn't want to take anything for my cold... it seemed to get better. Now it has been 1 1/2 months since I woke up with the stiff neck. It is better, but this past Monday I notice my lymph nodes on LT side of neck were swollen bigger than I've ever seen them.
Avatar m tn It is true hipernating** or stunned cells can be revived (sometimes with an adequate supply ofblood/oxygen) and the condition is reversed, but in the context of the examination and the comment that there is no evidence of ischemia at rest , etc. probably means that, in a stress test, it was shown that the person taking the test has some narrowing of the coronary arteries that happens during exercise, but will go away when they rest. In other words, it's reversible.
Avatar f tn I also get pain in my lower stomach when I sneeze. I find holding my stomach helps. Does anyone know if it can hurt the baby or the placenta?

Avatar f tn I am glad to know I am not alone in the head holding thing. I actually did this out in public yesterday and today...just could not stand up for long to cook (feeling bad) so we went down the street to eat out at a diner. I did it there. I think my husband was a bit embarrassed. I don't get out hardly at all but I really needed that time out of the house. Felt good to be out...no matter how bad I felt.

1146686 tn?1261523224 The downside is that the immune system is impaired (weakened) in the process... and other fast growing cells within the body, such as hair; toenails, fingernails and blood is negatively affected. That's why Chemotherapy patients lose their hair... the hair cells were destroyed. Radiation is more defined in its application... and, like chemo, it's designed to destroy Cancer cells. Since the immune system is weakened during therapy, the patient's body is weakened as well.
Avatar f tn 11wks here and same thing happens. I sneeze so loud and strong that really shakes my whole belly! So I learned a trick. If u know ur going to sneeze, tighten your mid section like you're holding your breath..then sneeze. This has really helped me a lot.
Avatar f tn "Your body responds by injecting insulin into your blood, and this triggers the glucose to enter your cells and be converted to fat." I don't mean to nitpick, but you have it just a little off. In reality, the glucose that enters the cells is intended to be used for energy, not to be converted to fat.

Avatar m tn t want my brain to lose IQ points as I need them to do well in studies - I heard that brain cells are only depleted and do not make new ones. Have I killed off my memory/brain cells by sleeping so late? And because they don't grow new cells, I'm stuck with a memory like this?
568322 tn?1370165440 HCV sequences and replicative forms were detected in autopsy brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid from infected patients suggesting direct neuroinvasion. However, the phenotype of cells harboring HCV in brain remains unclear. We studied autopsy brain tissue from 12 HCV-infected patients, 6 of these patients were coinfected with HIV.
Avatar n tn A couple of weeks ago My hand would start shaking and when walking I lose control of knees there is no pain has anyone have any idea what this may be.When holding book to read hands start shaking. I searched internet and have found nothing.
Avatar m tn I have tried many other things to make myself sneeze, such as plucking eyebrows, breathing in cold air, sniffing pepper or spices, looking at bright lights, chewing gum, eating chocolate, faking a sneeze, tilting my head back, but none of them work! I have done Google searches for this problem countless times. Some people have said it could be that the trigeminal nerve (which controls sneezing) might not be functioning properly, and some people have said it could be a brain tumour or lesion.
Avatar n tn Trying to hold a sneeze will force the allergins or staph bacteria from your mouth into your eustation tubes, which goes directly to the middle ear and can cause infection. Holding a sneeze can also cause a nose bleed. What I am saying is sneezing is a natural, nonspecific or humerol (vertabrate) immune response and holding one's sneeze puts undue stress on surrounding systems of the upper respiratory system.
