Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with both graves and hashimotos and my endo says we will treat which ever disease is "winning" at the moment....hashi is winning right now but graves is still doing a number on my eyes and skin. I am seriously considering thyroidectomy. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn _ Dear Pat, thank you for your question. The formula for stroke volume is cardiac output (in cc's/min) / heart rate (per min). The normal range for stroke volume is 50-70 cc's and doesn't vary much with age. Stroke volume refers to the amount of blood ejected from the heart with each heartbeat. The only way to directly measure stroke volume is through a cardiac catheterization where the cardiac output can be directly measured with a catheter in the heart.
Avatar f tn well, i'm recovering from a stroke and a massive heart attack. it happened 10/08. then i had the heart attack. i'm a walking miracle. i started going back to work in january 09! its still a long road ahead, but every day it gets better. when i started working , i couldn't remember passwords, phone #'s etc., ; now, 8 mo later , i remember almost 99%! keep the faith! question - is this the norm?
Avatar f tn On average, my resting heart rate was at about 60 (based on a few random measurements), although it was at around 120 when standing. Also, there were two instances where it jumped from a nice, calm, 60 beats per minute to what felt like 100 (really more like 90 when I checked). This happened twice today, within the same hour and lasted about 3 minutes.
Avatar n tn I would strongly recommend you have the LDL lowered to about 100 as there is firm data that this can lower your heart attack and stroke risk.

Avatar n tn ve been winning, but if I were to eat just one candy bar I would end up with severe heart pounding, increased heart rate, and atleast three days of extra heart beats that would just start the obcessive thought of heart attack/failure/disease to spiral out of control again. My advice to you is clean up your diet, drink in moderation, avoid refined sugar (high fructose corn syrup especially), eliminate caffine, and I guarantee that I you will see a reduction of anxiety symptoms.
Avatar n tn Someone told me also, that the closer the two numbers are together, the more risk of stroke, my Dr. says he has never heard of that. Both of my parents died of anyuerisms-Mother's in head, age 65 and Father's in stomach, age 74 plus my father had a Myocardal infarction at age 58. I have had the MRA of the head, and no problems. So my main question is what makes the diastolic BP higher than the systolic. Thank you so much for any help, Dee Dear Dee You should stop smoking.
Avatar n tn e. stroke, infections, bleeding) is about 1-2%. Nationwide these numbers are 2% and 5% respectively. For a second surgery the numbers rise to about 5% and 10% at the Cleveland Clinic and higher nationwide. Avatar m tn t help much - some studies have shown they actually increase, rather than decrease, rate of heart-attack/strokes in takers, as a side effect, even if the numbers seem to go down - other studies show the rate of heart attack/stroke in people who ran high numbers for any length of time, then successfully brought the numbers down with the meds, had just as many heart attacks/strokes as those who never brought their numbers down, indicating that once the vascular damage is done, even if meds succe
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Usually athletes and people who tend to be very active physically have low blood pressures and pulse rates, this is because the heart is that much more efficient to pump blood effectively. A temporary variation is readings is not of significance, this can happen as flight or fright response. Only a permanent deviation from the normal is significant. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn This area in the general population lies between 60-100 beats per minute. A heart rate that lies consistantly above or below these numbers fall outside of the normal range but may not be abnormal. An example of this is the lower heart rate that some athletes keep due to conditioning. Blood pressure is the same. For you, your heart rate lies in the normal range but your systolic blood pressure lies at the upper range of what we consider normal.
Avatar f tn Your HDL is a little low, suggesting you should exercise more. Your LDL is perfect, the ratio is good. If I had numbers like that, I'd be heading for the hot dog stand, followed up with a triple-decker ice cream cone. You are probably just fine.

996946 tn?1503249112 When I do go into an a-fib episode, my systole comes down a little, to around 100, and my dyastole goes up to where my numbers are 20 pts apart. Why is that? Does the a-fib cause it or does it cause the a-fib? Is there ANYthing I can do to right it? Thanks for your help.

1722641 tn?1309459148 Its kind of like asking why is the sky blue or what are the winning lottery numbers before the game....personally i don;t think there's any rhyme or reason on why SVT happens while we are asleep...been there done that was converted a couple of times. My heart doc says we could be reacting to a dream because our minds and heart react appropriately during nighmares...
Avatar f tn I know they consider me high risk/heart diseased because I have a history of stroke (even though I was 24 when i had the stroke and it wasn't due to high blood pressure or high cholesterol or anything like that). So I think the range numbers are lower than for someone with no stroke history, I suppose they want it lower than normal to compensate for health history. How do you figure out ratio? Brooke - Thanks. My blood was drawn at 7:30 AM so there was not 12 hours in between.
