Avatar n tn He is such a nut that afterward said that Saint Peter gave him the winning lottery numbers and he forgot them. He was not "out" long any of the times and it has not effected him anymore then anything else in life. He has a pacemaker defibrilator and is going to have to go in for a 2nd oblation. Pray for him. He is not a cat with 9 lives but i am counting on another one anyway.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with both graves and hashimotos and my endo says we will treat which ever disease is "winning" at the moment....hashi is winning right now but graves is still doing a number on my eyes and skin. I am seriously considering thyroidectomy. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Usually athletes and people who tend to be very active physically have low blood pressures and pulse rates, this is because the heart is that much more efficient to pump blood effectively. A temporary variation is readings is not of significance, this can happen as flight or fright response. Only a permanent deviation from the normal is significant. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn t help much - some studies have shown they actually increase, rather than decrease, rate of heart-attack/strokes in takers, as a side effect, even if the numbers seem to go down - other studies show the rate of heart attack/stroke in people who ran high numbers for any length of time, then successfully brought the numbers down with the meds, had just as many heart attacks/strokes as those who never brought their numbers down, indicating that once the vascular damage is done, even if meds succe
Avatar f tn I know they consider me high risk/heart diseased because I have a history of stroke (even though I was 24 when i had the stroke and it wasn't due to high blood pressure or high cholesterol or anything like that). So I think the range numbers are lower than for someone with no stroke history, I suppose they want it lower than normal to compensate for health history. How do you figure out ratio? Brooke - Thanks. My blood was drawn at 7:30 AM so there was not 12 hours in between.
1722641 tn?1309459148 Its kind of like asking why is the sky blue or what are the winning lottery numbers before the game....personally i don;t think there's any rhyme or reason on why SVT happens while we are asleep...been there done that was converted a couple of times. My heart doc says we could be reacting to a dream because our minds and heart react appropriately during nighmares...

Avatar m tn I'm a 50 year old male with a family history of heart disease and stroke and am trying to prevent it if possible. I exercise daily and maintain a healthy diet. Will this be good enough in the long run? I tend to worry about it too much because of the problems my parents had but I think my numbers are good. BP runs about 115/65 on average and my total cholesterol is about 100, HDL 45. My glucose is about 85 so hopefully this will keep me out of trouble.
Avatar f tn please help, my father in law had open heart surgery with a 5 bypass on monday 4 days ago, he still has not came out fully, he has not acted right since before he was sent home 4 days before his surgery, with medication called libriam (i may have spelled that wrong), he wont stay awake for more than a few seconds and one day he will reconize me or other family members, but then one day he dont know who we are, the hospital keeps saying one thing one day and a completely different thing the next
Avatar f tn what can cause seeing ants on the walls, also other places and numbers running off the page.
Avatar n tn In patients with low or average risk for bleeding, the numbers of heart and stroke events prevented with combination therapy exceeded the numbers of major bleeding episodes that it caused. Coumadin and aspirin may be as effective or better than plavix depending on the variables for contraindiaction.
Avatar n tn (enlarged heart?) My mother died of an enlarged heart, but not until she had cancer and treatments. She was also taking prednezone for about a year. She was 71. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/250279'>What is a normal pulse rate ?</a>.
Avatar f tn It was very scary and I wondered if I might be having a heart attack or stroke. The pain subsided after about 3-5 minutes. I regained use of my right side after the incident. My blood pressure after this pain attack was 106/65. Heart rate was 52. It seems to me that those numbers would indicate that it wasn't a stroke or heart attack - especially since I'm fine now. My arm is a little sore, but I'm wondering if I'm just imagining the soreness.
Avatar m tn Hi! There are plenty of sites on the net where you can calculate your risk of a heart attack or sudden death depending on age, lipid profile and all the other usual suspects. What I cannot find anywhere, however, is the risk in someone who has CAD already. I am 58 (almost 59), not overweight, BP is low at 115/75, non smoker. My LDL used to be high at over 160 but my HDL has always been very high as well (around 65 - 70).
Avatar f tn My recommendation is that you start a low-dose statin, Lipitor 20, so that we can get that LDL below 100. High LDL increases your risk of heart attack and stroke and vessel damage. Please let me know if you wish to start the Lipitor." My father was on this medication and weaned himself off because he'd become inactive due to terrible muscle pain. I'm afraid to try it, but would like to reverse this since it's such a new issue.
Avatar n tn Currently, there is no medicine or drugs that to effectively lower your Lp(a). A high Lp(a) is genetically linked. Normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. Talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test results. The test is usually given as a marker for risk of heart disease. High levels of lipoproteins can increase the risk of heart disease....check the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries), stroke, and heart attack.
2150430 tn?1336460759 Your cholesterol numbers are way too HIGH, you must do something to lower them. There are many things you can do including weight management and diet and exercise, but some of us, me included, have to take a Staten drug (low cost) generics available) drug to lower. A combination may be the best. Your treat is more heart/stroke problem than cancer. But I offer the above here as this is where I find your post. Congratulations on stopping smoking, please stick with it.
Avatar m tn I am unsure of what you read but its actually the systolic part of your blood pressure or the upper numbers that are predicators for the most serious potential for future problems. The upper part of the B/P or systolic is so important because it is basically reading what your heart is doing and how its pumping through your system and the lower B/P indicates what happens when your heart relaxes. There has been a little bit of controversy w. this but not much...
Avatar f tn I have been rushed to the hospital multiple times with heart attack symptoms and they tell me its not a heart attack or stroke that it is panic attacks. Which I have suffered from my whole like and it us totally different. My head is always funny feeling and I have pains around my eyes. Please I need help and I cant find a doctor to take me seriously because I am a recovering addict. My numbers seem ok they say excapet for the hypothyroidism which I take medication for. Please help.
1194602 tn?1264947710 Your EF% is low at 40%, normal is 50-75%. This is the efficiency of your heart, in your case your heart is pumping 40% of the amount of blood in your left ventricle with each beat. Hypokinetic means that some areas of your heart muscle have diminished movement and are not contracting normally. Akinetic means areas of no movement at all. Your have been diagnosed some where between hypokinetic to akinetic meaning impaired movement of no movement.
Avatar n tn Hi There. Im a bit surprised that its a stress test you have for testing EF. Usually its a standard echo (Ultrasound) test for EF. The Spiro should help your Edema in the legs & feet. Are you mobile? How are your Blood Pressure numbers? The horrid feeling is possibly part caused by the meds, but what can you do? You say you had a bad MI, the damage caused to the Muscle is obviously effecting you too. Have you had an angio recently? How is your Kidney function testing results?
703362 tn?1427766328 Your doctor knows that the key to your current heart health is all in the numbers: from cholesterol and triglycerides, to your blood pressure, waist size and more. The more you know about your numbers, the easier it is to count on good health! The particular number that we would like to focus on today is blood pressure. High blood pressure is the No. 1 modifiable risk factor for stroke. High blood pressure (or hypertension) makes the heart work harder than normal.
Avatar m tn This happens by a system of vasodilation and vasoconstriction coupled with the pumping rate and stroke volume of the heart. Rather than make frequent changes in volume, the body changes the configuration of the total container (all the vessels) and increases the speed at which the resource is renewed.
