Avatar n tn 2) He also said that sudden death due to cardiac arrythmia in otherwise healthy people (ie- spontaneous VF or heart block) is not something the average person should be wooried about. Do statistics support this?He said a good portion of people who die from arryhtmias have already suffered heart attacks ( diagnosed or not-diagnosed) 3)Is it true that most sudden cardiac deaths in young people are related to structural heart problems? Am I clear based on my normal echo?
Avatar f tn Some men and women leave the ER only to go home and have a heart attack. More women die of heart disease than many other conditions, such as breast cancer, combined.
Avatar m tn HI The good news is there is no damage to your heart muscle, which means the things you read on the internet do not apply to you. Those statistics normally relate to people who have dead heart muscle from a heart attack. Your latest echo proves your muscle is fine. You seem surprised that this has happened at your age. It is becoming more common now. When I was 46 I had my first blockage, but others were seen during the angiogram which had been there for many years.
Avatar n tn Of course, not every heart attack is fatal. The total number of heart attacks in the USA in a year is about 1.5 million. That works out to about 4,000 heart attacks a day. In the USA, 27.8% of men are smokers and 23.3% of women are smokers. Smoking greatly increases the risk of a heart attack. I hope this has been useful. A site on the Internet that contains lots of these statistics is the American Heart Association site at www.americanheart.org. Good luck with your school project.
Avatar n tn There are no statistics for heart attack during pregnancy but I would think you are at a very low risk of having a heart attack (even if the first even was a heart attack) during pregnancy. There is no known increased risk of peripartum cardiomyopathy in individuals with prior heart attacks. Your OB should be aware of your history and may wish to check an echocardiogram during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn In 65% of men and 47% of women symptons of cardiovascular disease is heart attack or sudden death. Most artery flow disrupting events occur at locations with less than 50% of lumen narrowing. Typical heart attack occurs at locations with about 20% of stenosis. Cardiac stress testing generally only detects lumen narrowing of ~75% or greater - some say nuclear stress tests go as low as ~50%." a.
Avatar f tn Not a question even a doctor can answer from information over the web... but there must be some statistics on the type of heart attack experienced. I'd keep my fingers crossed (pray if that works for you) and discuss all questions with the attending doctor(s).
Avatar n tn s pretty unusual for someone to have a heart attack while driving a car, but you must remember that a heart attack encompasses a variety of symptoms from dull chest pain to full cardiac arrest. I'm not sure that having an ECG in a car would really be that helpful unless you propose to somehow use the heart rhythm to propel the car or something like that. However, this forum is for people with cardiac disease to write in for information regarding their illnesses.

17567 tn?1276202029 So, awhile back I started getting left arm pain, which is generally a wake up sound for a heart attack? Rather than ignore it and hope it goes away I actually did something about it... and went to a cardiologist. After a few tests he tells me my heart is fine but by cholesterol is very high (260) and puts me on lipitor. Cardiologists are very big on driving blood pressure and cholesterol down towards zero needless to say.
378425 tn?1305628294 I am really worried and tired no sleep last night, My mum was life flighted out she has had a heart attack...My emotions of late have been so much of a roller coaster ride. I came on here to write and I am just so tired I cannot seem to concentrate.
967168 tn?1477584489 maybe maybe not? I know how quirky EKG/ECG machines are so I'm really hoping this time it's a false reading. My Primary found a new murmur and I've been so sick for about 5-6 months; not feeling right, more winded than normal, major headaches, different types of chest pain than before and ALOT more fainting spells even with my ICD.
Avatar f tn I think my husband had a mild heart attack early this morning (4 a.m.?). He had all the symptoms as I looked them up. He refused me to call 911 saying he thought he was ok. By 5:30 he felt well enough to rest, and sleep until 7. At 7 he said his chest was still hurting, but it was not a heart attack. He got dressed and left for work, saying he had a busy day and could not call in sick. I am freaking out b/c everything I read says you need treatment within 24 hours.
Avatar m tn I thought I had a mild heart attack after bending down to get kitty toys off floor. First felt nausea, pain in jaw. Heart thomping so bad that I had to lay down and not move. I also took aspirin.

Avatar n tn Any Info on Pregnancy following a Heart Attack??? posted by Barbara on March 23, 1999 at 12:43:05: I am trying to get some information on the risks associated with pregnancy following a heart attack. Here's some background: I am 34 years old. 2 years ago I was diagnosed as having had a silent heart attack. The only symptom I had was palpitations, which I mentioned to my Internist during a routine exam. An ekg showed abnormal results, and an echo showed a small area of damage.
Avatar m tn 3yrs ago I had a heart attack and two stents added. Three weeks ago I had another heart attack and two larger stents added to the same artery. My lipid panel is very good (cholesterol 118 Hdl at 75) my diet is good. I am committed to follow Dr Esselstyn diet. I belong to n HMO My question is around the tests that I should be asking my cardiologist. She feels that I not need to have regular stress tests or angiogram to anticipate blockages. What has been your routine with your cardiologist?
1382889 tn?1505071193 t judge someone for making different choices, I have to again follow my path and give myself the best possible chance that my MS is going into and staying in remission. The statistics are not as clear as I would like but there does seem to be an advantage (even if it isn't huge) of this helping MS patients live a better quality of life. So I am doing it for the rest of my life. To me this isn't a sacrifice, it's as life saving of my quality of life as my meds will be.
