1546050 tn?1293688410 A week ago I went to the doctor due to experiencing menstrual cramps but no getting my period. (Just for background - I only menstruate when I am on the pill and I am currently not on it - therefore I do not menstruate without medication). She did a standard sugar test which came out as 4.4. She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc.
Avatar n tn I'm just curious if Type 1 and polycystic ovaries come hand in hand. from what I've read, polycystic ovarian syndrome can cause type 2 if left untreated. I'm a little confused, I'm getting checked for POS, but I was diagnosed with type 1 over a year ago (when I was 23). Could there be anything other than POS?
1039061 tn?1257878294 It works by decreasing some of the female hormones(just like if thyroid hormones were decreased the TSH would go up). This though is mainly for people with polycystic ovarian syndrome,a female hormonal problem. Kinda a roundabout way. But...like Manmon said if she's having symptoms, best to remove it. Also something can be hiding behind what appears benign.
Avatar n tn PCOS is a syndrome There is no obvious causal link between polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and ovarian cancer. Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses.
Avatar n tn I'm really not sure about cystic teratoma. I do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome so I do have cysts and metformin actually helps quite a lot in keeping them well, well, well, under control. But cystic teratoma I don't know about. If it's similar then maybe something like Metformin (i.e. Fortamet, Glucophage) would help. All in all I would ask my OB/GYN to refer me to a fertility specialist and I would have him/her address these concerns about a possible infertility situation.
Avatar n tn I have had irregular periods since I first began my cycle at age 8, along with them i had horrible cramps, and a very heavy flow. When I was a Junior in high school I met with one of my mom's Endocrinologist to test my hormone levels. Turns out I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and one treatment option is to put on birth control. But because of family history, and getting pregnant was very difficult (mom had 4 miscarriages) I didn't want to mess with birth control.
Avatar f tn I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
Avatar f tn When I checked, my doctor told me that I had miscarriage due to hormonal imbalance. I was diagnosed for a Bilateral Polycystic Ovarian disease a year ago before I got pregnant and my doctor told me that this was the reason why I had a miscarriage. And also, she did not perform dilation and curettage to me anymore since I passed all of the tissue from the fetus and placenta. My questions are: 1.
Avatar f tn You might have polycystic ovarian syndrome if you do have that try to get your Dr to give you glucophage my cousin was put on that and within a month was pregnant...

1493843 tn?1309256719 The term is used in the US and other countries as both PCOS and PCOD, the term relates to Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease or Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a Genetic Disease usually passed on from Mother to daughter. It is classified as the most popular Infertility problem of women in the world. Its "cause" is unknown, except it is a Genetic Disorder. Most women experience very few periods, to maybe no periods.
Avatar f tn It sounds like your doctor was talking about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Also called PCOS or PCOD. You have the symptoms. I advise you to follow up with all appointments and push for FREQUENT thyroid testing. These are the things I wish someone would have told me when I was 16 and had these symptoms.
1408770 tn?1283213203 cysts can make you miss your period for months at a time. I havent had a period for over a year maybe almost two yrs. And I have PCOS. As far as all your other symptoms I dont think there cyst related. You would be in alot more pain if you had a big cyst. I dont know were your positive resuls are coming from, are you taking any medications? If you read on your instructions that came with your tests it will tell you what medications could interfere with the results.
Avatar f tn Male factors causing infertility are varicocoele, ejaculatory disorders, radiation exposure and advanced age. Ovarian cysts like polycystic ovarian disease can cause infertility. For more queries and assistance it is advised to consult a gynecologist. You will need evaluation for above mentioned causes. Consult an infertility expert. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn Sometimes it is associated with polymenorrhea(Frequent flow, cycles of ≤21 days)Causes of menorrhagia are Hypothyroidism, Endometrial proliferation or hyperplasia like ovarian tumor and polycystic ovarian disease, endometrial polyps and neoplasia, endometriosis, fibroids and uterine sarcomas. In my opinion you need to get your pelvic examination done from your gynecologist along with investigations like complete blood count, thyroid function tests,PAP smear and ultrasound uterus.
Avatar f tn In January 2008 i was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Hyperthyroidism. Whilst visiting the endocrine department at the hospital in May 2008, I was then also diagnosed with Graves Disease, and am being checked for Diabetes. I was also told that my heart beats too fast and was put on beat blockers. Is there any reason why i suddenly have these 3 illnesses? I have always been healthy and in the last 6 months feel awful.

Avatar f tn Otherwise it can be due to Hypothyroidism, Endometrial proliferation or hyperplasia like ovarian tumor and polycystic ovarian disease, endometrial polyps and neoplasia, endometriosis, fibroids and uterine sarcomas. So I will like to advise for internal examination from a gynecologist and take opinion. I hope it helps. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn d call your doc that is prescribing your medications. Are you on metformin for polycystic ovarian disease? Long cycles and abnormal bleeding is common for this disorder. Not sure how metformin would impact that. But do check in with your doctor. If the bleeding goes on past 7 days, I would also call your doc or if the clots are bigger than a quarter. good luck and let us know how it goes. I'll be interested to hear back from you as to how this resolves!
504877 tn?1210497684 Ask your doctors (an endocrinologist or reproductive endocrinologist) to check for Cushing's and PCOS. I tend to think PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is more likely the culprit and is a more common. Go to www.soulcysters.net and check out their website for more info on PCOS and see if your symptoms are similar. Have you had cortisol/ACTH levels tested or an ACTH stimulation test to check for Cushing's or adrenal issues?
Avatar n tn Hi There, You might be better helped to see your gynecologist and go over your reports. While PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, is a real medical diagnosis, this term is used commonly and inappropriately whenever a few cysts are seen in a young woman's ovaries. It is important to see you doctor to be sure that that truly is your diagnosis. PCOS is a complicated syndrome of insulin resistance, obesity, and ovarian hormone imbalance .
