Common Questions and Answers about Glucophage and polycystic ovaries

glucophage

Avatar n tn I'm just curious if Type 1 and polycystic ovaries come hand in hand. from what I've read, polycystic ovarian syndrome can cause type 2 if left untreated. I'm a little confused, I'm getting checked for POS, but I was diagnosed with type 1 over a year ago (when I was 23). Could there be anything other than POS?
Avatar n tn u might have polycystic ovaries thats y u have a hairy face. consult ur doc and take glucophage .
Avatar f tn The diagnosis is made from examination to see the extent of excess hair growth, an ultrasound of the ovaries, and blood tests to look at various hormones including testosterone. If you are overweight, which is pretty common with this condition, then weight loss (does not need to be much, often just 5%-10% does the trick) often helps normalize periods. If weight loss does not work, or you are unable to lose weight, or are not overweight, then you will probably need medication.
Avatar f tn and i forgot to add, metformin, from what im aware of, helps in regulating/reducing insulin levels and boosts ovarian function. but how blood sugars and ovaries are related im not too sure... maybe this might help...http://women.webmd.
Avatar f tn what is the difference between having Polycystic ovaries and not having Polycystic Ovarian syndrome? I'm confused with what my Doctor told me.
Avatar n tn Since I started seeing my family doctor (an MD) it has been determined that I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome based on my symptoms even though the pelvic ultrasound showed no cystic ovaries and even though my menstrual cycle is regular. They had started treatment with glucophage XR and obviously I could not be treated with BCP because of my history of pulmonary emboli.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have polycystic ovaries and I am a little freaked out by it. My doctor started me on birth control and metformin for the next six months with orders to lose weight. I am wondering how hard or if I will be able to overcome this problem and be able to conceive.
Avatar f tn I know that I have polycystic ovaries and have been on various medication. I came off Depo Provera injections about 2 years ago and was regular up until the day before my wedding (16/10/2009) as I was about to become sexually active for the first time also. The doctor prescribed a pill I'd been on when I was in my teens, although I made mention that these made me sick, at which she told me to hide it in my food! I tried them, but was severely sick, so I came off them.

Avatar n tn It is diffucult to get rid polycystic ovaries. The small cysts are where your eggs are and so we do not want to get rid of the eggs but we do want the syndrome to go away and your ovaries to look and become more normal. You need to have a complete assessment of your hormones including FSH, LH, Estradiol, Prolactin, TSH, DHEAS, Testostoerone, 17OH-progesterone, fasting insulin, a 2 hour GTT with a 75 gram glucose challenge, lipid panel, kidney functions and liver functions.

My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
557911 tn?1225980644 They treat it with diabetic drugs like glucophage or metphormin. In some cases they will do surgery to unblock your ovaries. There are quite a few women who probably have it on this site, if you want to ask anymore questions. I hope I helped but didn't scare you, and if I did I do appologize.
Avatar f tn Her assistant called me yesterday and told me that my results from my ultrasound showed that I had polycystic ovaries and endometriosis. Now I've never heard these terms before and after much googling have scared myself.. My next appointment is in two weeks and I am not very patient. She told me not to worry as she laughs and says my lining is thicker than she's ever seen (didnt give me a number) and that my doc will discuss it further at my next appointment..

Avatar m tn i am 19 years old and only been diagnosed a few months with polycystic ovaries and it is one of the hardest conditions ive had to live with a long side hypothyroid. my doctor put me on Xenicol for my weight and i found it helped me for a few months and i lost nearly a stone in weight. unfortunatly i had to stop the medication as it wasnt going well with my levothyroxine for my thyroid, but if you only have polycystic ovaries and no other heaalth problems.
Avatar n tn It takes blood work to confirm PCOS. You can have polycystic ovaries and not have the hormone imbalance. It does not always mean you will have trouble conceiving. You never know until you try.
