Avatar n tn I'm just curious if Type 1 and polycystic ovaries come hand in hand. from what I've read, polycystic ovarian syndrome can cause type 2 if left untreated. I'm a little confused, I'm getting checked for POS, but I was diagnosed with type 1 over a year ago (when I was 23). Could there be anything other than POS?
1546050 tn?1293688410 She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc. I am now following a low GI eating plan I got on the internet. My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
Avatar n tn Turns out I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and one treatment option is to put on birth control. But because of family history, and getting pregnant was very difficult (mom had 4 miscarriages) I didn't want to mess with birth control. I am currently on Metformin, which is a generic for Glucophage. If are hesitant about birth control, I highly recommend this. Within the first 2 cycles I was regular again, and it's been wonderful :) Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I'm really not sure about cystic teratoma. I do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome so I do have cysts and metformin actually helps quite a lot in keeping them well, well, well, under control. But cystic teratoma I don't know about. If it's similar then maybe something like Metformin (i.e. Fortamet, Glucophage) would help. All in all I would ask my OB/GYN to refer me to a fertility specialist and I would have him/her address these concerns about a possible infertility situation.
Avatar n tn Since I started seeing my family doctor (an MD) it has been determined that I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome based on my symptoms even though the pelvic ultrasound showed no cystic ovaries and even though my menstrual cycle is regular. They had started treatment with glucophage XR and obviously I could not be treated with BCP because of my history of pulmonary emboli.

Avatar f tn You might have polycystic ovarian syndrome if you do have that try to get your Dr to give you glucophage my cousin was put on that and within a month was pregnant...
Avatar f tn I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and have been having intense pains. Some doctors are saying that it can be kidneys, some say that the pain is because of the cysts! Some docs say that the cysts are not suppposed to hurt. Does polycystic ovarian syndrome cause excruciating pain? If not, what could be wrong with me. My mom died from cancer and i am worried that it could be.
Avatar n tn PCOS is a syndrome There is no obvious causal link between polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and ovarian cancer. Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses.
Avatar n tn I Just found out today i have polycystic ovary but not the syndrome umm what is the difference?
1039061 tn?1257878294 It works by decreasing some of the female hormones(just like if thyroid hormones were decreased the TSH would go up). This though is mainly for people with polycystic ovarian syndrome,a female hormonal problem. Kinda a roundabout way. But...like Manmon said if she's having symptoms, best to remove it. Also something can be hiding behind what appears benign.
Avatar f tn It sounds like your doctor was talking about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Also called PCOS or PCOD. You have the symptoms. I advise you to follow up with all appointments and push for FREQUENT thyroid testing. These are the things I wish someone would have told me when I was 16 and had these symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi There, You might be better helped to see your gynecologist and go over your reports. While PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, is a real medical diagnosis, this term is used commonly and inappropriately whenever a few cysts are seen in a young woman's ovaries. It is important to see you doctor to be sure that that truly is your diagnosis. PCOS is a complicated syndrome of insulin resistance, obesity, and ovarian hormone imbalance .
Avatar f tn I have recently turned 17 and been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, however my GP wants me to get 2 internal scans (TV and TA) to see if I have polycystic ovaries, and I'm honestly just scared and confused on what to do. I have most symptoms of PCOS, and I have only had my period 2 times over 4 fours, but I don't know to handle this. I have anxiety and at the moment this is increasing.
639213 tn?1223005577 Is it common for a physician to give you several tests and not tell you what the results of said tests were and when the results are negative or unfounded, not to continue with anymore tests? I believe that I have polycystic ovarian sydrome. My OBGYN prescribed clomiphene and birth control. Won't one cancel out the other? I hve facial hair and its spreading. It started on my chin only, now its on my entire face. My OBGYN did not do an ultrasound to look for cysts. What am I to do?
Avatar m tn For the past few years I have had Infrequent periods, I have experienced severe pelvic pain of the right ovary, crippling pain unable to function at work and school. When I did get medical help i've been told on two separate occasions that I had an ovarian cyst and was sent home with pain killers. After doing further research I found a doctor that was sure that my symptoms of irregular periods, nausua and pelvic pain was related to Pcos.
Avatar n tn I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone and I truly know how awful it is to want a child and have to wait and wait for it to happen. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
Avatar f tn Can ovarian cancer be mistaken for polycystic ovaries on a transvaginal ultrasound - or do they look different?
