Avatar f tn Most of the individuals described in these reports had a history of poly-substance abuse or used gabapentin to relieve symptoms of withdrawal from other substances. When prescribing gabapentin carefully evaluate patients for a history of drug abuse and observe them for signs and symptoms of gabapentin misuse or abuse (e.g. development of tolerance, self-dose escalation, and drug-seeking behavior).

4544656 tn?1371593548 s definitely gabapentin withdrawal. Gabapentin can cause withdrawals like benzos or alcohol. It doesnt happen to everyone, but it can happen. When I feel the withdrawals, if I take a dose of gaba, I'm fine 20 minutes later. I was hoping to hear how others deal with it. I'm down to 200 mgs! Slowly, but surely I'll get there.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Withdrawal symptoms are seen if gabapentin is discontinued abruptly. These are usually anxiety, diaphoresis, irritability, agitation, confusion, and status epilepticus. The symptoms that are associated with gabapentin withdrawal tend to mimic some of those associated with ethanol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, possibly because gabapentin augments GABA levels like these.
6937315 tn?1386287618 Seriously worst withdrawal on the planet. I'm almost on my second week since last dose and still in full physical withdrawal. Use at your own risk. Don't let the "non-narcotic" label fool you it's very mentally and physically addicting. I feel like I need to warn people. This is just ridiculous that I was never warned about this.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm wondering if it is safe for me to take Gabapentin for withdrawal symptoms from methadone? I read somewhere that the gaba is sometimes prescribed for that. I have never taken it before in my life and got a hold of a few 300mg capsules the other day. I have been into opiates off and on for about 8 years, getting pretty bad into them this past year. I think it is alot mental with me though. I started off on Perc 5's and 10's, graduating to oxy 30's about a year ago.
Avatar n tn I take propranolol for Tremors from taking Gabapentin. I wanted to know if propranolol has withdrawal symptoms because I am weening off all meds to see if my new symptoms were caused by all the meds. I want to add meds as needed for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn m not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, since I have never abused medications, but I think I might be experiencing withdrawal symptoms from prescription medications, so I thought I would seek information here. I previously alternated between temazepam and zolpidem for sleep. I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum. Getting here and looking for answers is the first step. The withdrawal is uncomfortable at the least, but it's a 14 day span at the most for the physical symptoms. How much and how long and what drug have you been using. There is always someone here who can offer more specific advice.
Avatar f tn I previously alternated between temazepam and zolpidem for sleep. I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day. I don't crave either of the meds I quit, but I have been experiencing inability to concentrate, ringing in my ears, vomiting, blurry vision, sweating, confusion, anxiety and mood swings. The symptoms wax and wane and I can't find a pattern.
Avatar m tn I have to agree with your doc -- the therapeutic dose of Lyrica is 450mg / day, and for gabapentin, 1600mg / day or more. To have withdrawal symptoms for any medication, you first have to have developed a tolerance to that medication. This takes time. Tolerance is defined as by decline in efficacy, meaning that a dose that was effective for a long time stopped working, and an increase in medication improved the situation. Tolerance takes time.
7827044 tn?1399391443 It has now been 45 hours since my last dose of gabapentin and the withdrawals are horrible. I had to remind myself what the withdrawal symptoms of gabapentin were so I didn't think I was losing my mind. I really hope these symptoms go away soon, they are terrible. Anyone else have experience with getting off gabapentin and how long their withdrawals lasted is appreciated. I did not quit cold turkey but did have a short taper. I had to get the poison out of my body.
Avatar f tn So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance). So the real question is at this point it's been about 3 days, and I'm wondering if I continue til I feel the withdrawals are gone, will I experience negative effects or dependency on the GABA? I do not want to be addicted to anything anymore. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Lyrica shouldn't be stopped abruptly. You should call your doctor for advice. You're describing withdrawal symptoms. Check out the substance abuse forum for some tips on feeling better Staying hydrated is very important. Keep us posted on what's going on with you.
Avatar m tn I was in sheer panic mode and looked around for anything that would ease the withdrawal symptoms that I knew were inevitable. Well I remembered that I had read something about Neurontin aka Gabapentin helping other people with withdrawals. I had a bottle from something but had never taken them. Well I tried it. They are 300mg pills and the bottle said take 1 3 times a day so I started doing that (this was Monday evening).
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from hydrocodone produced virtually no withdrawal symptoms (I was not taking much), but the sleep preventing syndrome persists for weeks, probably months to come. I have been desperately seeking something safe to help me sleep, while I wait for my brain disruption to normalize. About 1000mg of Gabapentin each evening shows promise after a few days. But I 've read wildly different things about this drug - from it being non-addicting, to it being harder to get off than the benzos!
5447621 tn?1368108821 Speak with your doctor about your symptoms. He/she should be able (and obligated imho) to help with them. The sooner the better!
Avatar f tn Gabapentin withdrawal can be similar to benzo withdraw. In other words, this is tough for some people! If this doc is helping you do what he wants you to do, get another one FAST!!! God luck and let us know how it goes. This is good education for us all.
Avatar m tn I have had gastroparesis symptoms while taking gabapentin at a high dose for my muscular pain cause by gitelman syndrome (a rare kidney disease that causes kypokalemia) although hypokalemia can cause gastroparesis I don’t know if it is the gaba or the low potassium.
Avatar f tn I would taper one thing at a time. I'd stay on the gabapentin as it will help with the tram withdrawals. You're on a really high dose of gabapentin. I have been off and on it for years for nerve pain. I stopped it last summer and began again over the winter. I'm tapering off and am down to 100 mg 3x a day. If you have the option, I'd plan on doing it super slow. Gabapentin has it's own withdrawal symptoms if you come off it too fast.
Avatar f tn s kind of slow around here this time of night, but hopefully someone with more experience with the symptoms of Lyrica withdrawal and tips on managing it will be along soon. Good luck to you and take care!
Avatar f tn t know anything about gabapentin and was not aware that it caused withdrawal symptoms. However, I just googled it and it said that withdrawal symptoms mimic those of benzo withdrawal and older patients are more susceptible to this. Perhaps a tapering schedule would be better for you? Talk to your doc. Are you out? Maybe try taking one and see if your symptoms lessen. This is not really an addictive drug and I understand not wanting to take it if it makes you feel depressed.
Avatar f tn Hello, It has been 8 years since your post, I so much hope that you found some help. I am currently having th severe anxiety zaps when I am trying to go to bed, I've been having them for maybe 8 weeks now. I am on Gabapentin 900 mg x3 per day but found out that it was the Gabapentin causing the anxiety state, heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, as well as the zaps of anxiety that plunges my eyes open right when I am drifting into sleep.
Avatar f tn It would be a bad idea because of the fact that you would experience a return in the symptoms the medication was treating as well as withdrawal symptoms. It would be best to speak to your psychiatrist about what other medications might be of help and if known options have been tried to ask about medications that are FDA approved but used experimentally for depression.
