The Restless Leg Syndrome is hitting me hard at night time, as is sweating like crazy, the shakes, heightened anxiety, pooping more (which I'm ok with!!), moderate pain within joints and muscles and severe dizzy spells. All I'm taking to reduce this is tylenol. My pain is gone (I think!) since the surgery, but this is the last thing I need to do. Just looking for someone else to chat with about this. What a horrible experience to go thru!

I get a syndrome somewhat like restless leg in the evenings that is painful and prevents sleep. Withdrawal from hydrocodone produced virtually no withdrawal symptoms (I was not taking much), but the sleep preventing syndrome persists for weeks, probably months to come. I have been desperately seeking something safe to help me sleep, while I wait for my brain disruption to normalize. About 1000mg of Gabapentin each evening shows promise after a few days.

I have had gastroparesis symptoms while taking gabapentin at a high dose for my muscular pain cause by gitelman syndrome (a rare kidney disease that causes kypokalemia) although hypokalemia can cause gastroparesis I don’t know if it is the gaba or the low potassium.

I was taking 100 darvocet once a day, took 900 mg of gabapentin a day, 100 mg of tramadol 3 times a day, prozac 40 mg a day, mevacor 20 mg a day, elavil 100 mg at night, 1200 mg ibropofen a day, migraine medicine (maxalt 10) 3-4 times a week. basically I went into the e.r. where they basically were going to send me to the psych ward (which they didn't even have one), I left.

s definitely gabapentin withdrawal. Gabapentin can cause withdrawals like benzos or alcohol. It doesnt happen to everyone, but it can happen. When I feel the withdrawals, if I take a dose of gaba, I'm fine 20 minutes later. I was hoping to hear how others deal with it. I'm down to 200 mgs! Slowly, but surely I'll get there.

Seriously worst withdrawal on the planet. I'm almost on my second week since last dose and still in full physical withdrawal. Use at your own risk. Don't let the "non-narcotic" label fool you it's very mentally and physically addicting. I feel like I need to warn people. This is just ridiculous that I was never warned about this.

It causes a very discomforting withdrawal syndrome similar to alcohol and/or benzodiazepine withdrawal that can last weeks or even months. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING GABAPENTIN. Trust me. If you have been on it for any length of time longer than a couple of weeks you will need to taper carefully and be monitored by a professional.

Because I am a chronic pain patient and also a recovering addict...I would like to clarify a few of the differences between Lyrica/pregabalin and Neurontin/gabapentin. They are "similar".....but also have some major differences. They are both medications that need to be titrated UP when you first go on them.... meaning to gradually increase your dose. Likewise, when you go off of either of them, you must wean yourself DOWN.

m wondering if people in general are confusing the withdrawal syndrome of improperly stopping gabapentin with classic withdrawal, or if it actually is addicting to them psychologically as well. I personally have not felt any effects from gabapentin that could potentially cause me to abuse the drug, but I am on the lowest dose available. So my question is have you experienced any effects from gabapentin that could potentially cause you to become addicted to it?

A physician may be able to prescribe you some Neurontin (gabapentin) for general malaise, anxiety and muscle cramps, Requip for the restless leg syndrome and possibly something like Seroquel low dose for the insomnia. The reason for this longer depression and insomnia symptoms is because Tramadol, besides affecting the opioid receptors, has an effect on the serotonin receptors in the central nervous system.

Hi there. Withdrawal symptoms are seen if gabapentin is discontinued abruptly. These are usually anxiety, diaphoresis, irritability, agitation, confusion, and status epilepticus. The symptoms that are associated with gabapentin withdrawal tend to mimic some of those associated with ethanol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, possibly because gabapentin augments GABA levels like these.

Past reports have suggested that some withdrawal symptoms can present after 1-2 days upon abrupt discontinuation of gabapentin after chronic use within young to middle-aged patients. These symptoms mimic that of alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal purportedly due to a similar mechanism of action. Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).

I have to agree with your doc -- the therapeutic dose of Lyrica is 450mg / day, and for gabapentin, 1600mg / day or more. To have withdrawal symptoms for any medication, you first have to have developed a tolerance to that medication. This takes time. Tolerance is defined as by decline in efficacy, meaning that a dose that was effective for a long time stopped working, and an increase in medication improved the situation. Tolerance takes time.

I soon fixed it myself, as all the different meds the psychiatrists tried me with, only made me worse with nausea added to the mix Weaned off all those before I got too addicted, and began taking gabapentin again, which solved the whole problem. I had stopped taking the Gabapentin suddenly, as I didn't have the money for it., and that is what caused the anxiety/depression. Now that is, or was under control, I cannot bear to feel this anxiety jitters and strange scared feeling again!

I'm almost 5 weeks in from recovering from a tramadol addiction. Please be aware that tramadol is very hard to withdrawal from. They may last a little longer but it's so worth it! Gabapentin was prescribed to me for 6 days and was a God send but is NOT the answer and especially not for everyone.

I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day. I don't crave either of the meds I quit, but I have been experiencing inability to concentrate, ringing in my ears, vomiting, blurry vision, sweating, confusion, anxiety and mood swings. The symptoms wax and wane and I can't find a pattern. The seem to occur as a cluster, meaning all symptoms occur together and come on suddenly.

So my dr gave me gabapentin for tramadol withdrawals. It has helped wonderfully. This was 7 days ago. So I think I am over the withdrawals from the tramadol but I have been taking high doses of gabapentin in that 7 days. Like anywhere from 900-1800mg a day to stave off withdrawals. My question is how long will it take to develop a gabapentin addiction because I've read horror stories about the withdrawals.

gabapentin at a lower dose is OK. I know you can have some withdrawal symptoms after prolonged use. My friend went through it, but he was on quadruple what you are taking for many years! Hang in there, you are still healing!
