neurontin

4544656 tn?1371593548 s definitely gabapentin withdrawal. Gabapentin can cause withdrawals like benzos or alcohol. It doesnt happen to everyone, but it can happen. When I feel the withdrawals, if I take a dose of gaba, I'm fine 20 minutes later. I was hoping to hear how others deal with it. I'm down to 200 mgs! Slowly, but surely I'll get there.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Gabapentin for my nerve damage but i read a post on here by a "Brian" a member and he said he was taking up to 25 hydrocodones a day and Gabapentin helped with the withdrawals TREMENDOUSLY?? Has ANYONE else ever been prescribed GABA for withdrawals?? I am out of my meds (10/325 Percocets) and do not get my refill till the end of this month...I will continue taking these as my doctor prescribed and PRAY TO God That it will get me thru my withdrawals...
Avatar n tn Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but have a question maybe someone can answer. I've been struggling with alcohol dependence and finally got sober (using Antabuse) at the beginning of this year. This is the third time I've achieved sobriety for a month or more in the past few years. However, this time I was having high anxiety because of the alcohol withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).
1474625 tn?1371097079 Been on methadone, up to 100mgs a day, for the past 12 years for pain control. Developed q-t wave prolongation, meaning the second beat of your heart doesn't beat and you pass out until hopefully, it starts again; if not, you die. Doc said it was from methadone so I began a SLOW taper: Per the pharmacist, reduce by 25%, every 14 days. Methadone has a 36-hr halflife, so this taper to 2-3 years. For various reasons, Ive gone off and on methadone about five times.
Avatar m tn t working that well, but if I stop taking it, what else is out there, and how would you tolerate it. If the Gabapentin seems to be working somewhat for you, I don't think I would do anything without talking to your GP and getting advice from him. Hope this helps, I tend to babble sometimes LOL ...
6937315 tn?1386287618 ve not had any negative experiences with it to report, and a LOT of my patients were on it...some for neurological pain, some for depression/anxiety, some for seizures, etc. It actually has a lot of indications. I'd say give it a try, especially if your doc has instructed you to decrease your Xanax dose already. Let us know how you're doing!
Avatar m tn ve heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?
Avatar f tn When prescribing gabapentin carefully evaluate patients for a history of drug abuse and observe them for signs and symptoms of gabapentin misuse or abuse (e.g. development of tolerance, self-dose escalation, and drug-seeking behavior). Dependence There are rare postmarketing reports of individuals experiencing withdrawal symptoms shortly after discontinuing higher than recommended doses of gabapentin used to treat illnesses for which the drug is not approved.
Avatar m tn Most of the individuals described in these reports had a history of poly-substance abuse or used Gabapentin to relieve symptoms of withdrawal from other substances. When prescribing Gabapentin carefully evaluate patients for a history of drug abuse and observe them for signs and symptoms of Gabapentin misuse or abuse (e.g. development of tolerance, self-dose escalation, and drug-seeking behavior).
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm wondering if it is safe for me to take Gabapentin for withdrawal symptoms from methadone? I read somewhere that the gaba is sometimes prescribed for that. I have never taken it before in my life and got a hold of a few 300mg capsules the other day. I have been into opiates off and on for about 8 years, getting pretty bad into them this past year. I think it is alot mental with me though. I started off on Perc 5's and 10's, graduating to oxy 30's about a year ago.
Avatar f tn There are many stories out there where people abruptly quit and had a withdrawal syndrome from stopping the GABApentin. For me, that risk from taking it for a week vs the anxiety and depression from withdrawals was worth it. For some, it seems to have an amazing ability to minimize withdrawal syndromes. It did just that for me.
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
Avatar m tn Suboxone saved my life! I only had a tiny bit of withdrawal and never missed opiates at all. I previously took enough to kill an elephant. I also went through alcoholic seizures in my past. I understand your fear. Don't worry, trust the meds and all the addicts who've gone before you. You can do it and have your life back. It's amazing!
575745 tn?1254165100 Most of the meds I've tried have indicated alcohol's not an option, seems the effects can be unpleasant. I've had a couple of small drinks of booze without any apparent effects, but not got anywhere near drunk. Guess that might be catastrophic mixed with meds. For me it's better to avoid alcohol, rather than trying to control how much I take. ie Abstinence is better than Temperance. The drugs you're on are not one's I'd mix with drink.
Avatar n tn I take propranolol for Tremors from taking Gabapentin. I wanted to know if propranolol has withdrawal symptoms because I am weening off all meds to see if my new symptoms were caused by all the meds. I want to add meds as needed for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn 3 years 1.
Avatar f tn I have recently had to come off gabapentin 3 x 300mg ad day for facial nerve pain. I had to stop them abruptly on doctors advice as I was suffering breathing problems, that was 3 weeks ago and I am still having withdrawal syptoms, anxiety and pain, has anybody had the same problem, does anybody know how long these symptoms go on for.
453029 tn?1205951419 Gabapentin is "Neurontin". I remember seeing something in the news about Nuerontin side effects but can't remember exactly what it was. I know they prescribe Neurontin in jails/prisons for a WIDE variety of uses... You should "Google" Gabapentin/Nuerontin for more detailed info...
Avatar f tn Due to my health insurance being canceled I can't afford to purchase multiple medications I've been on for several years. Gabapentin , fentanyl 75 mcg patch and ocyocodone 15 mg 4 a day. I have been decreasing my amount of each medication as slowly as possible but don't have much left. The side effects of decreasing these medications over a week has had some really bad effects.
4705307 tn?1447970322 Hey Tim, Gabapentin is better than Hydro's and Trams for your liver. _______________________________________________________ Hepatotoxicity Limited data are available on the hepatotoxicity of gabapentin. In clinical trials in diabetic neuropathy and epilepsy, therapy with gabapentin was not associated with an increased frequency of serum aminotransferase elevations or liver toxicity.
Avatar m tn That drug does form physical dependence and withdrawal. For many who like it, which varies greatly, it does have abuse potential and doses tend to rise over time. I believe the stoned feeling, which is a common experience of street users, will likely pass as you become addicted to it. Feeling stoned for clinical uses is considered an adverse effect. I would talk to your doctor and see if another drug or lower dosage is more appropriate for your situation.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on no alcohol for six months, good for you!!!! Tramadol is very, very addicting, I would find other alternatives such as acupuncture. I've had carpal tunnel in both hands since 1977, also have neck and back problems. I almost got adictive to pain killers many years ago so I'll never go that route again. Do some research...PLEASE read this site below> http://www.drugs.com/answers/tramadol-addiction-484395.html Good luck...
15227985 tn?1439629482 Because I am a chronic pain patient and also a recovering addict...I would like to clarify a few of the differences between Lyrica/pregabalin and Neurontin/gabapentin. They are "similar".....but also have some major differences. They are both medications that need to be titrated UP when you first go on them.... meaning to gradually increase your dose. Likewise, when you go off of either of them, you must wean yourself DOWN.
