Avatar f tn Does anyone know if Neurontin helps alleviate symptoms of withdrawals? I've read it all over the internet that it does, but I find that hard to believe.
Avatar f tn both are also used for treatment of chronic pain, particularly chronic pain that is thought to arise from too much nerve activity. I have not heard patients complain of withdrawal symptoms from neurontin, although I do usually taper it off just out of caution. While the jerking of your body might be related to suddenly stopping the medication, it is hard to see the numbness as related-- at least not as a direct effect.
Avatar f tn Neurontin was compared with lorazepam in a recent double blind trial for alcohol withdrawal. They found that withdrawal symptoms were significantly lower with high-dose gabapentin (1200 mg/day) than with lorazepam during treatment and follow-up assessments. Compared with lorazepam, gabapentin was associated with significantly lower probability of drinking after day 1 and less daytime sedation (high-dose only), anxiety, and craving during the medication phase.
9704730 tn?1405744884 My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly. I wanted to know if it is possible that I am still in withdrawal from the tramadol or if it's the neurontin.
1637739 tn?1371692306 I think I may experiencing withdrawal effects from Neurontin. I was on it about 6 mo. The last month or so, I reduced it slowly. Now I am axious and restless at bedtime. I am comfortable but just can't seem to lay still for a hour or two. I also have been having headaches. A few times when laying in bed, my chest felt heavy like I was short of breathe. Scared me but passed shortly after it started. How long do these withdrawal symptoms last?
Avatar f tn I just read an old thread on Nuerontin. Am I going to have withdrawal from stopping it. I have to get off of it ASAP as it is causing me bad reactions such as blurry vision among other things. I was on it for about 2 weeks. I was started at 2 pills and told to jump to 6 but only took 6 twice. These were 300 mg capsules. The Sunday and Monday I only took 3 and I'm not taking any today. Thanks for any help.
Avatar m tn I have been through withdrawals before without taking anything so I know how difficult there are. But with the neurontin I hardly had any withdrawal symptons.
Avatar f tn I have some 300mg Neurontin capsules which I have read may help with some of these symptoms. Does anyone have any experience with Neurontin(Gabapentin) for THC withdrawals? I realize that every person reacts differently to medications. I am just looking for some general information before I begin the Neurontin therapy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn so you are familiar with neurontin?
Avatar f tn I'd say it took away 90% of the withdrawal symptoms. I only took it for about 7 to 10 days. It did help with the rls and sleep. The only thing that bothered me was a bit of anxiety. I can't really say it it caused any sort of personality change. With anything though I would only take it as long as you have too. If on it for awhile it does have to be tapered off of. When you do a search for it type in gabapentin, the generic name. It brings up much more information on it.

Avatar m tn There have been reports by methamphetamine addicts that gabapentin alone in doses of 1200 mg at bedtime taken for 40–60 days has been effective in reducing the withdrawal symptoms and almost eliminating cravings or desire to use methamphetamine. [11] That's why I decided to give it a try and it has worked wonders. There is no way I am going to use it for 40 days! I've just been taking it since Monday. The longest I plan on taking it for is a week but hopefully I went need anymore at all.
Avatar f tn I have been on Percocet for 10 years and then was taking Ultram to not have withdrawal but after reading all the horror stories on here about Ultram, I tried the Neurontin. I have been on it for 3 days and no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. I am shocked. I heard it is not addictive either so I'm staying on it for a week or two and then stopping to see if the Perc are out of my system.
Avatar f tn It never helped me with withdrawl and made me an emotional zoombie.

Avatar m tn I am getting ready to take my final dose of vicodin today and am very nervous about withdrawal symptoms. I've only experienced a few hours worth and that was enough to scare me sh**less. I've heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?
Avatar f tn but the county jail makes up the rules as they go along. What can he expect in withdrawal symptoms? He has 6 herniated discs, a blown vertabrae in his lower back, and Arthritis in his neck.
1474625 tn?1371100679 Also, I was wondering if anyone knows if it helps with the restless legs you get from opiate withdrawal or otherwise. I just stopped taking tramadol yesterday, which I was taking to the point of abuse because it gave me a feeling different from other opiates that I loved and gave me energy. I took this for such a long time that I was up to around 12 pills a day.

Avatar n tn When he was completely off Methadon and then Suboxone and facing horrible withdrawal symptoms, his psychiatrist prescribed Neurontin (100mg capsules). Almost immediately, his deep shakin' quakin' anxiety slowed down. The dose varied but now he is taking 2 capsules 3X a day along with other meds and a whole lot of supplements. Little by little (and I mean little by little, 'cause it is hard to see progress when you are still feeling like "....," he says), he is getting better.
Avatar n tn I have recently had a neurostimulation system implanted for the neuropathic pain, but use of Neurontin is still called for at this point due to symptoms. My concern is with long term use and side effects of Neurontin (mid-forties male, 170 lbs). Can you please enlighten me regarding this question? Thank you in advance.
1474625 tn?1371100679 I've read Neurontin works to relieve some opiate withdrawal symptoms. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so how many milligrams a day did/do you take and how long does it take for the Neurontin to start working? I'm currently taking about 70mg of hydrocodone/day and I want to stop. I hate being on opiate painkillers for so long. I have a prescription for 100mg of gabapentin to take 3x a day. Does anyone know how much to take for cold turkey opiate withdrawal?
Avatar f tn Neurontin will continue helping you with a lot of withdrawal symptoms. In fact, it is what I recommend for tapering in most cases. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn My last dose was this morning so I'm not feeling anything yet, I'm so glad I found this gabapentin I really think it's going to make this a lot easier to endure. I've read on countless forums now how it can help alleviate opiate withdrawal symptoms but nobody is really sure why.
Avatar f tn I used Neurontin during my Suboxone withdrawal which helped tremendously with the restless legs. It also made me sleepy which should help you sleep through your withdrawal symptoms. Another great medication you should ask your doctor about is clonidine. This can help with the anxiety associated with the withdrawal. These two medications helped me greatly when I was going through withdrawal myself. I don't know if I could have done it without them.
