Avatar f tn Neurontin , B- blockers and gabapentin may be considered as a prophylactic treatment. Please consult a neurologist for a better insight after a thorough clinical examination in your case. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Hi has anyone been on gabapentin or heard of it before? I have had 3 discectomies on L4/L5 disc and now have tissue scarring leaving me with the same as before all my surgeries. I have been prescribed gabapentin this week for nerve damage in that area of my back. I am in first week on it and taking 600mg per day.
Avatar f tn I was perscribed Gabapentin which is generic for Lyrica, I believe. I was perscribed this prior to my diagnosis and my insurance just approved it. Does this medication help w/the pain or what? I have never taken this before and don't know exactly what it is for. The doctor who prescribed it gave it to me months ago but my insurance said they didn't cover it so I just forgot about it and then I got the diagnosis and didn't think much of it after that.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar n tn Two recent clinical trials found that the migraine medications gabapentin (Neurontin) and acamprosate (Campral), a drug used to treat alcoholism, are effective in relieving tinnitus for some people. You should consult your physician regarding this.
293157 tn?1285873439 Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin. I guess if the pain increases as I go off the gabapentin, this will tell me it was helping more than I realized. I have no side effects from the gabapentin, even at such a high dose. I do find the 50mg amitriptyline makes me very drowsy, and may need to scale it back to 40mg if this side effect continues.
Avatar n tn If diligent work up is already done, and the cause is still not determined, then the treatment is directed directly towards the symptoms. These treatment may be pharmacologic (through medications like the gabapentin) or local steroid treatment. I suggest that you discuss with your doctors regarding a possible pain specialist referral (these are mostly anesthesiologists that subspecializes in pain management) for a better pain management. I hope your pain can be managed adequately soon.
Avatar n tn My doctor has suggested we try Gabapentin. Can I take that WITH my current meds or does he mean instead of? From reading these other posts, I don't think it would do as well for me by itself. Thank you for your advice.
Avatar f tn I am a bit worried about taking Gabapentin.....if it starts to work, and I think it might be.....(which is awesome for the day to day life), but when you're not in pain, you can forget that something is wrong! Im worried that I won't push for an answer as hard and/or something will get missed! I don't want to take this band-aid treatment for the rests of my life.....I want to get better!
1310035 tn?1305621642 s why myb neuro onnly wants to start inteferon once my op wound has healed and he can ***** the effectivemess of the gabapentin, but it feels good to be gettig some treatment after a lon sturggel, kisses and hugs to all of you
1045086 tn?1332126422 "Certain anticonvulsant drugs may be linked to an increased risk of suicidal acts or violent death, according to an analysis of prescriptions and insurance claims data by Boston researchers...." http://www.boston.com/news/health/blog/2010/04/anticonvulsant.html?p1=Well_MostPop_Emailed7 I don't use gabapentin but I know many others here do so I wanted to leave this FYI. 189269 tn?1189755825 My doctor prescribed me Gabapentin, used to control nerve pain or shingles. All my liver funtions are way out of wack, I feel like I am plugged in to a electrical outlet, sort of tingling itching sensation anyone try this.
Avatar m tn While it is reported that Bupropion is the least likely anti depressant to cause sexual side effects, in my case it does. (On a side note I was taking gabapentin for my Nystagmus earlier in the year, and experienced a decrease in vision, hard time converging.) Gabapentin was said to help people with Nystagmus but the doctor's suspected the bupropion may have played a part in this. My question is, if bupropion causes blurred vision and sexual side effects, is there an alternative for me?
Avatar f tn I saw a Nurologist today who prescribed Gabapentin for Degenerative disc Disease. I was informed that surgery was out of the question because it was over a large area, wasn't very helpful and didn't really expalin why i was prescribed it. i was also prescribed amitriptyline for the night time.
Avatar f tn Been in chronic pain for 5 years now, after a hysterectomy. What is the best treatment. Am on 2400mg Gabapentin and 60mg of Cymbalta, but don't really want to have to take this for life.
Avatar m tn Check with a neurologist after eliminating simple causes like tight shoes. Treatment would be according to the cause. Drugs like amitryptiline, gabapentin, gabapentin etc may be required. Take care and regards.
1168718 tn?1464983535 I am still on Gabapentin after 15 months and have played around with the dose according to my symptoms (with my neuro's consent). I am under no illusion that it made me put on weight (about a stone) when I was on 1200mg and I am now on 300 at night and today just took 100 in the morning as I am in relapse and struggling. I tried very hard to lose weight when onthe drug without success with exercise and diet.
Avatar f tn I hope the injections do work for you, in the mean time because your problem is a nerve one as well as localised pain ask your Dr about gabapentin which can help with nerve pain (still need other pain killers but they, like tramadol can be taken alongside the gabapentin. Take care.
