Good question, Udkas. I really don't think any of my symptoms are much better on more gabapentin, other than the pain, and it's been the only thing that has helped with that at all. As far as exam results, I have no idea, as I've not been back to any of the neuro docs for repeated visits since being prescribed this stuff. I think I might be a bit less fatigued than I was, but I am now kind of sleepy.
Dear Bon Bon, Over the internet it is difficult to advise specifically on the best way to deal with the complexities of pain control in an individual situation. Pain, arthritis, joint pain are all side effects that may be associated with tamoxifen, these side effects are not common/usual after the other chemotherapy medications that you list. Pain due to scarring/radiation is challenging to evaluate.
The only thing that seems to help most sufferers is the application of ice to the area until the itch is diminished. Other treatments include cooling lotions like those containing camphor or menthol,capsacain or local anesthetic creams,amitriptyline and gabapentin tablets and electrical cutaneous nerve field stimulation.
There are many stories out there where people abruptly quit and had a withdrawal syndrome from stopping the GABApentin. For me, that risk from taking it for a week vs the anxiety and depression from withdrawals was worth it. For some, it seems to have an amazing ability to minimize withdrawal syndromes. It did just that for me.
For the past several months, I've had severe nerve pain on the right side of my abdomen. I also have numbness and tingling on the entire right side of my body. My neurologist prescribed gabapentin which slightly relieved some of the numbness. I had an MRI that showed that I have a syrinx. My neurologist thinks the syrinx is a birth defect. He does not think any of my symptoms are related.
Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose.
I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
I became addicted to oxycodone 15mg in 2012 after my first back surgery, obviously I was on them while I was in the hospital for 7days after surgery then took them for about 4 days once I got home. I tried to stop and became sick and realized I was addicted. I go to a pain clinic for my chronic pain. Since then I had surgery on my elbow and just 2 weeks ago I had another back surgery. My oxycodone has never been upped in dosage so of course it doesn't help with the pain.
I took my last half at 1am and haven't taken, anything since! So it's been 10 hours, the gabapentin has been working for the most part. I took 2 100mgs, which is what my Dr had prescribed me to take if needed(hes one of those drs that will drug you so much rather than find the problem) I was taking the tramadol and it wasn't working(before my surgeries) so they put me directly on norco 10/325.
People with this disease are usually extensive evaluated for abdominal causes and everything come back normal. The treatment is nerve block with local anesthesia or surgery of nerve roots (rhizotomy).
However, as I mentioned before, you need an extensive evaluation to rule out other causes before considering this diagnosis.

Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc. Poor absorption as in irritable bowel syndromes and malabsorption syndromes too is possible. Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease. Diabetes too can be the cause.
The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem.

I am getting so discouraged as there is no specific test to say this is radiation. I am hoping they are all wrong and I will wake up tomorrow pain free.

IT STOPPED MY PAIN FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THE SIDE EFFECTS WERE UNBEARABLE.
