Gabapentin for joint pain

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for joint pain

neurontin

Avatar m tn Gabapentin doesn't work for me either. I wish I had some suggestions for you, but I am in the same boat.
Avatar f tn I think this medication helps with my chronic pain and I now rarely get headaches. When I go off of it, I hurt like crazy. All the joint pain comes back with a vengeance. The last time I missed a couple of doses, I hurt so much that I kept having to find a place to sit down while the pharmacist filled the order. I asked the pharmacist if there could be something of a withdrawal problem with the med, other than increased risk of seizures.
Avatar n tn Hi, thanks for your reply and giving the necessary details. How old are you? Regarding the use of Gabapentin, you are regularly using since last September and had you suffered similar pains any time in the course of taking the drug? Although it has side effects as any other medicine, joint pain is not among the common or usual ones. You need to consult your attending doctor who had prescribed Gabapentin and update him of the possibility of the joint pains due to taking the drug.
Avatar f tn benzo's were never my thing so it worked fine for me when I was waning off of long term narcotic pain relievers following major surgery. I think maybe mine was classified as a physical dependence versus an addiction. I've also had to be on Norco 10's for a few months at a time for joint issues from Lupus Flares and withdrawed cold turkey. It wasn't too bad I knew that my pain levels would be higher the first few days and I drank a bunch of water and slept it off.
Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old female with diagnosed eczema, alopecia areata, high blood pressure, migraines, increased sweating, widespread musical and joint pain. About 3 months ago I was diagnosed with peripheral nueropathy to both feet. I am not diabetic. I was prescribed gabapentin, total of 700 mg a day. Gabapentin worked for a month or 2. Recently I have had a 5 day "flare up" in which the pins and needles and burning sensation seems to be traveling to boys of my knees.
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar n tn ve been on gabapentin(neurontin)1400-1800mg for abt 5 years for sciatica...and other nerve pain. It has been a God send for me allows me to sleep at night without that throbbing pain. gabapentin is an anti-seisure medication, there are others in this catagory that I'v read that are also good.

Avatar m tn Some of the statin drugs, like the one you're taking, can cause joint/muscle pain. My mom had to stop taking Lipitor because of severe leg pain. Before you ask your doctor for a referral to a rheumatologist, do some research into the side effects of your meds. There are some web sites out there that let you input all your meds and supplements, and check for side effects and adverse interactions. Another good source of information is your local pharmacist.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I take both gabapentin and amitriptilyne (Elavil) for my neuropathic foot pain. I started with 300mg gabapentin and worked my way up to 3600mg. I take 1200mg 3X/day. By itself it didn't do that much for my pain. We added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and I saw some relief. We upped it to 50mg 1X/day and my pain was gone completely! I guess I'm luck not to have any side effects from either drug.
Avatar f tn Hello. In about 2007 I was diagnosed with vulvodynia (chronic vulvar pain). After all the typical treatments amtriptoline, neurontin, gabapentin, physical therapy, muscle relaxants, topical creams, etc., my doctor finally to do last resort treatment of vestibulectomy. First surgery went okay but didnt help, so another doctor tried again. After the second surgery, I woke up with burning inner thigh pain. That was in 2010 and no one has been able to help with either condition.
Avatar f tn If you click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of this page; you can search for joint pain post tx. there are many many people with the same problem. I wish one of them could find out what is causing it and come back to share.
Avatar f tn hi Punkie..........thats a good question and I have the same pain from the buttocks to the hip and radiating to the thigh and down my legs..worse on left side........I have 2 problems and this pain could be caused by either one doctor says one thing the other says different so gets very confusing. 1. it very well could be caused by the bursitis in our hips, although from what I understand that pain should only radiate as far as the thighs and not necessarily down the whole leg. 2.
Avatar n tn I take a very similar set of meds. I have suffered for years with chronic pain and my doctor added 25mg of Zipsor (anti-infam). It really makes a difference for me. When my pain gets really loud I take a Zipsor and it really takes the edge off. It has really helped me continue to work. My doc used to prescribe Toradol and it worked great, but because Toradol is so rough on the stomach they would only prescribe 3 days one time every 3 months. I am able to take Zipsor every day.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
1207048 tn?1282174304 m thinking of seeing my neuro to see if I can take the gabapentin during the day (right now I take 500 mg before bed only). My regular doctor is the one that prescribed the Celebrex thinking the joint pain was arthritis, though my x-rays and blood work were normal. I'm pretty sure that I'm having muscle issues that will sometimes cause some joint pain, but I do think the problem is starting in my muscles. But, what the heck do I know?
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed last year but have been suffering for about 2 years following four operations. I get lots of pain and have elements of dystrophy in my foot, ankle and lower leg muscles. Have you tried either gabapentin or Lycria? I am on Gabapentin and it is an amazing drug it really helps calm the pain down. I also take Amitriptyline which works well. The gabapentin is best though its made a major difference to my pain levels.
Avatar n tn I'm not yet Dx with anything...but do not have that type of pain..mine is more tingling, zapping.. small headaches... some joint pain... but not "10" level.. have they check for fibromyalgia?? have you had blood tests with a Rheumotologist? I would head in the direction..
1838963 tn?1318496884 medical background: I am 21 years old. I have been having severe headaches since I was 16. Chronic joint pain at 16 as well. I was EXTREMELY active as a child/teenager. (Swimming, Soccer, Cheerleading, Tennis, Track, Volleyball) Pain became worse after I had a child.
Avatar n tn Fast forward to 8/10 ,came off the gabapentin because I was pregnant. Pain was manageable off gabapentin. Just after 3rd trimester had another bout R sided SI joint pain, along with another outbreak ( I was still on suppressive tx). from this point forward, the deep pain at the pubic rami progressively worsened as the pregnancy progressed, and also had the groin pain that comes along with pregnancy. Had elective C-section due to concern with the vulvar pain.
