If Gabapentin is the cause of the edema (swelling) it should begin to reduce by the third day - reduce not clear up. Plz don't assume the edema is due to the Gabapentin - though it's probably the cause - there could be other issues causing the edema.
As mkh suggested, your husband's prescribing physician should be consulted - asap.

Hello! It seemed to be taking forever to heal with a hard cast and nwb crutches. In late December I had an MRI. The MRI shows almost complete bony union of the fracture (good) but also shows moderate to severe bone marrow edema all along the shaft and head of the bone. I'm still in a fair amount of pain. It comes and goes but hurts more often than not. It's not severe - maybe a 5 or 6 at its peak - but it's annoying. It's a deep, burning kind of pain.
Neurontin or Gabapentin is widely used to treat neuropathic pain. It’s off label use includes treatment of cluster headaches and chronic tension headaches.
Gabapentin is known to cause dizziness, drowsiness which can explain mental fogginess and peripheral edema at high doses.
Do you have any swelling in hands and feet?
Gabapentin does not increase weight in any other way. I would suggest you to discuss this with your physician.
After all the typical treatments amtriptoline, neurontin, gabapentin, physical therapy, muscle relaxants, topical creams, etc., my doctor finally to do last resort treatment of vestibulectomy. First surgery went okay but didnt help, so another doctor tried again. After the second surgery, I woke up with burning inner thigh pain. That was in 2010 and no one has been able to help with either condition.
My focus now is the chronic inner thigh pain.

This is true of gabapentin and pregabalin which were originally invented for seizures. Pregabalin is similar to gabapentin but has less side effects and often people who can not tolerate gabapentin benefit from pregabalin. However it is more expensive.

My first symtom was a puffy right eye (edema) one morning. Shortly afterward a numbness
starting at my right temple working its way downward to the center of my face (over about
a month period) . The numbness then starting from my left temple downward to the bottom
and center of my face. Now my eyes are still puffy in the morning, my face is numb from the
eyes down, my nose is constantly running, my mouth, lips, tongue and palette are numb.
It is difficult to eat.
Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
Has anyone expierence swelling of the face with gabapentin? I know it can be a side effect. My question is; Is this an allergic reaction or is the dosage too much? Actually my face feels stiff at times and cheeks get sore. If it is the gabapentin, what would be the alternative? Thank you med help family........

I had an episode of burning on my forhead and cheeks and pins and needle feelings in which I started Gabapentin for. Over a 4 week period I gradually increased the dosage to what I am on now, 300mg three times daily. This seems to help greatly with the nerve pain but I started after 2 weeks to develop a very itchy neck, ear lobe, and face. My face sometimes looked like it was burned. Im just wondering if anyone has had this while taking Gabapentin.

I took gabapentin from... around august 2017 to... february 2018.. and then i started to take it again around september to october.. never experienced what you are describing.
I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
Iv ad a BAD weekend and my sisters friend who has sufferd with fibro for 11 years, advised me try gabapentin as she swears by it making her much better. Has anybody tried this medication? she also says to use sea kelp?
Went to a new doctor today and he seems to feel the vicodene is no longer working so he had prescribed me gabapentin-100 mgs. three times a day. My concern now is withdrawing from the vocoden. doctor has suggested that I taper down to half a pill a week (of the vicodene). Of course I did not tell him how much I was taking of the vicodene.In searching this forum I have read different opions on the gabaperntin.
second day without the pain pills! But the doctor today gave me gabapentin for pain is it addictive? I dont need another addiction.
Hi has anyone been on gabapentin or heard of it before? I have had 3 discectomies on L4/L5 disc and now have tissue scarring leaving me with the same as before all my surgeries. I have been prescribed gabapentin this week for nerve damage in that area of my back. I am in first week on it and taking 600mg per day.
Hi there. Gabapentin may help control your condition but won’t cure it. You must continue taking gabapentin even if you feel well. You must not stop taking gabapentin even if you experience side effects like unusual changes in behavior or mood. If you suddenly stop taking gabapentin, you may experience withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, nausea. Your doctor would decrease the dose gradually over at least one week.
