1394601 tn?1328032308 When I have vision or balance problems, I use hiking poles as "Balance poles." Gideon has gotten pretty good at the "brace" command and pushing me to the wall when I start the step on him.
Avatar f tn I love that Immesceo has already written what I was going to suggest. I do have a cane, but in PT the therapist said she prefers the walking poles/sticks instead. When you walk with a cane, the tendency is to lean forward and down. With a walking pole if you hold it correctly you arm is more straight out and it encourages better posture. I know the cane/stick/pole is humbling, but even worse would be broken bones from a fall.
Avatar f tn she needs to have cooling to her hands and feet during the chemo, stay clear away from any heated material, loose clothes, hot food, tepid showers, go to the Doxil site and read their info on hand and foot syndrome there they give you the answers.
Avatar m tn I will be relaxing and all of a sudden I get severe, very painful muscle spasms that bend my foot so bad it feels like my foot is going to break right in the arch and my little toe and the toe next to it usually spread out in some kind of spasm spreading out to the side and my other toes turn under. I have no idea what is happening. I have to grab my foot and really force it back to a normal position as well as my toes, which is very painful. Then it will start all over again.

1831849 tn?1383228392 Not exactly sure its foot drop, thats commonly described as literally the foot dropping so they are kicking the ground and need to lift their foot higher. With my puppet walking style that I strut (lol) my left side sort of plods like its getting heavier and heavier every step I take. The right leg though, just seems to automatically lift higher than normal because i'm tripping. I bounce though so i doubt either fit 'foot drop' but the right is the closer fit.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that you will burn more calories if you walk faster, walk uphills, and walk for longer periods of time. Believe it or not, walking sticks and trekking poles have also been shown to increase calories burned and aid with weight loss. You might find that when you do lose some weight, your knees/feet will hurt less.
505094 tn?1240317431 I have recently discovered hiking poles and have bought 2 that have the same shaped top as a walking stick to allow me to lean on them as I have issues with balance and tend to fall and also have troubling standing for any length of time. The poles have small springs in the base and as you walk they help to propel you forward, plus you can also change the ferrell for walking on soft ground like sand. I can now walk more safely and faster (but my faster is still slow) than I have in years.
1838712 tn?1325731294 It seems like just about everyone on here already had their babies but for those of you that are left I was told that curb walking is a good way to get things started. Personally at this point I am desperate so I'm trying anything and everything. Basically what you do is put one foot on the curb and one foot on the ground and walk. The idea is that since your body is uneven it should help the baby drop.
Avatar n tn every couple of days i get this vibration in my left foot. i changed the shoes i was wearing and it seemed to go away. do you think that was the problem? i stand on my feet for 7hrs at work i can feel it vibrating and it bothers me. i even feel it when i sit down. my back hurts when i wear different shoes which seems to stop the problem. i wear k swiss sneakers with a good sole and my back dont hurt i wore them for about 2 months then i noticed this vibration.
Avatar m tn (I know its hard to imagine, but this is what I have noticed) A few days later I can see the blister like things again on my foot and almost in the exact same spot. Now that area of the foot becomes extremely painful when I begin walking/running (exercise) and almost becomes unbearable and find myself having to lay down and get off my feet for any comfort. These blister things don't itch they just become very painful.
Avatar f tn It is good to know that there is a current support group for foot drop. I was stopped in traffic in 2009 and rear ended, two days later a sharp pain shot down my leg and 2 days after that I had complete foot drop. I like to call my gait, like a gazelle, it is not nearly that pretty, but it helps to cope. I had surgery in January 2010 to help the nerve decompress, and had therapy until December of 2010.
Avatar m tn Glad to know that you have found out that your husband has athlete's foot. Washing his feet every day and drying well in between the toes and applying the cream will help. You can also get antifungal talc too. Tell your husband not to try on other people's boots and to not allow them to use his. Walking bare foot in shower rooms and round swimming pools is another area to watch. Athlete's Foot as you know is a fungus and fungus love warm, dark, moist places.
Avatar n tn After partial knee replacement I lost feeling in my foot. i now can move my toe, but still can't feel it. Does movement in my toe mean I am starting to get the feeling back?

1251333 tn?1445218215 Okay - this might sound odd - knowing I've had MS for 10 years but - I need to get an idea of what kind of walking issues people have had with their MS. A lot of MSers look at me and ask if I have had trouble walking and...I'm not sure if what I DO have qualifies as "trouble walking". I've always been able to do the "heel" and "toe" walk and never really had any gait issues ID'd during any neuro visits.
Avatar f tn Whatsoever is like everything. Let’s say if you injure your foot and you still walking then is “ normal “ . I will encourage to take the full test and let us know how it goes . My doctor has a million and 1 excuse since their medical ethics prohibited from “ giving bad news “. Basically I am 2-3 millimetersaeay from “ normal “ mácula RPE .
Avatar m tn Well, on a general note, formal shoes are not meant for long distance walk since most of these are not designed to support the foot arch like sport shoes, however padded they might be. You may try resting the foot and keeping it elevated for some time. Foot massage may also be beneficial.

Avatar m tn I am a power lineman and I climb poles. The actual climbing gaffs strap right around the area where the screws are below the knee and at the ankle. Just curious how long I could expect to be off work, discomfort level, etc. Thanks for any info.

649848 tn?1534633700 Good afternoon... I seem to be running later and later every week with my posting - seems like Sunday mornings have gotten way too busy. I've really been thinking about, praying for all the people who have been dealing with the cold, no power, etc. I remember those days well and hope everyone is okay. I have some good friends in OR who are currently on day 9 of having no power and family in TX who have also been out. I hope everyone gets power, heat and water back soon.
Avatar f tn t been able to help me organize a successful walking routine. Anyone out there who knows about foot drop, knows about the pain and fatigue associated with it. Especially in my back and ankles the pain is horrible. The more I push myself the worse the pain and fatigue get. Does anyone have any input?
