fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn My GP has all but given up on running any more tests. Pain is caused by inflammation, so. I am pretty sure that I am having a runaway inflammation problem as the root cause, which appears to be irritating CNS nerves and manifesting much of the pain I am experiencing. My neck lymph nodes are also always sore and swollen and recently I've been having some joint pain at night in my fingers if I dont take some ibuprofen before bed.
Monster The descriptions of fibromyalgia symptoms read to me like a newspaper horoscope: the number of symptoms described can apply to just about any ambulatory human being. The typical medications indicated seem to antidepressants and pain relievers. Please give us the Clif's Notes version of fibromyalgia and if diagnosed, what are the treatments.
Avatar n tn I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I've tried all of the meds they are currently prescribing for this. Has anyone tried alternative treatment for this? If so, did it work for you?

Avatar f tn Does anyone who has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia know of the best medication to take to help relieve the discomfort associated with this disease?
Avatar f tn Sometimes repetitive injuries or strain can also produce these symptoms. Inflammation of the muscles, joints and surrounding soft tissues like bursa can also cause pain. They are diagnosed by a physical examination. Sometimes blood tests, x rays, bone scan, CT and nerve conduction studies can help clinch the diagnosis. Also, at times a muscle biopsy may be needed to diagnose. Treatment usually depends on the cause and pain killers are given if the pain is severe.

554442 tn?1221238825 Fibromyalgia (FMS or Fibro for short) is a chronic condition which causes widespread pain and fatigue as well as a variety of other symptoms. The name Fibromyalgia comes from "fibro" meaning fibrous tissues (such as tendons and ligaments), "my" meaning muscles, and "algia" meaning pain. Fibro does not cause joint pain or swelling. The pain from Fibromyalgia is produced in the soft tissues of the body, including the muscles and tendons. http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn Ischemia: Cause of Fibromyalgia Pain? Saturday April 18, 2009 Did you know that some fibromyalgia (FMS) pain may be caused by low blood flow to our muscles? The medical name for that is ischemia (ih-SKEE-mee-ah). We've had some limited evidence of ischemia in FMS for a few years, and it's an area that researchers are pursuing.
Avatar f tn People with Hep C are very susceptible to Fibromyalgia, irregardless of how they got Hep C. I've had Fibro symptoms and high levels of inflammation markers for many years and I got HEP C from injection drug use (only used for a short period of time sporatically-never an addiction type of IV drug use because I was playing around with IV powder cocaine-never did IV of any crack, or, crank or Heroin)... any way, it only takes use IV street drugs one time to get infected that way.
434278 tn?1324709825 The pain across the back of your shoulders is very typical of fibromyalgia. It is not uncommon for lupus patients to also have fibromyalgia. The one thing that seems to help with fibro is sleep. I take a benadryll and a melatonin to help me sleep. I'm not saying that you only have lupus. I was also told that all I had was fibro and deep don I knew I had more than fibro. I know people w/ fibro and they have never been as sick as I was.
Avatar n tn Since I've had Fibromyalgia, I have constant bursitis in my greater trocanter (hip bursa) as well as a constant inflammation of my SI joints. I receive shots in my hips every few months, sometimes monthly. I do the exercises given to me by my DO, however, I have only short term relief from the shots. I apply ice. I still have the bursitis and it won't go away. I never had any hip injuries prior or since to cause bursitis. Does anyone else have recurrent bursitis with their Fibromyalgia?
574423 tn?1258662171 Inflammation is not common with Fibromyalgia, but joint inflammation is common with other Rheumatic diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus. Do you know if your Rheumatologist tested your SED rate, your C-reactive protein, your Rheumatoid Factor or performed an ANA screen on you? If so do you know the results of these tests?
494623 tn?1278282952 RA is a disease which can cause many symptoms. Fibromyalgia is a syndrome (a group of symptoms) not a disease. So a fibro diagnosis just tells you that you have a group of symptoms but you still don't have a cause. Also you should have 11 of the 18 fibro tender points if you have FMS. Were you checked for these? If it were me I would consider a second opinion. Lab work and tests are usually normal in true FMS.

Avatar m tn Can you shed some light on what may be causing these symptoms?? I suffered from really bad anxiety for about 6 years or so and I'm not sure if this may have caused some low grade inflammation in my body. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn It was so very kind of your to go into such detail. It does not appear that I have many of the symptoms for fibromyalgia. I am going to look up some information on costochondritis when I can. I am having a quite a lot of chest tightening at times when I just sit by the computer so when its better, I will look up some info on this. You really went through alot to finally get diagnosed. Must go for now. Again, thank you so much for all the information and take care.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I have been going in circles for about 2 years with various symptoms, going to various specialists with no answers. Drs have tossed around sjogrens, MS, fibromyalgia, lupus, and lyme. All my tests have come back normal, or inconclusive (but I have not yet had an MRI) I have had muscle weakness/pain, spasticity, extreme fatigue, joint pain, numbness in various places, buzzing/tingling, pluerisy twice in a year, jaw/teeth pain and now uveitis.

And ever since this year, I've been getting swelling in the fingers or my right arm, mainly the pointer and index finger.

Avatar n tn I don't know much about fibromyalgia other than there are no definitive blood tests for it, and there are points in the body that are affected. I don't think I have any of those specific points bothering me. However, the PCP seems to not have any idea what is wrong. they did some tests for lupus that came back negative, he also tested me to see if i have any underlying allergies that would cause inflammation. Nope. Another thing..

Avatar n tn Hello, Without examination confirming a diagnosis is very tough but the various possibilities for your symptoms are lung pathologies like Pulmonary Edema, Bronchopneumonia or Bronchiectasis costochondritis (an inflammation of the joints in your chest) , Tietze syndrome(painful localized swelling of the costosternal esp in the area of the second and third ribs) and fibromyalgia( presence of chronic widespread pain and tactile allodynia(pain even on touching).

Avatar f tn Is there an effective way to treat acne for those with fibromyalgia? My dermatologists have tried quite the variety of treatments for the acne with no success. The acne isn't cystic, but a bit more problematic than mild acne. Also, a sulfa allergy limits that option for treatment. Current regimen includes Azelex (for redness and inflammation) and Tretinoin. I'm curious if there is an effective treatment that takes the fibromyalgia into consideration.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 8 years ago. Have all the yucky stuff that goes along with it, but I try not to let it ruin my day, I just go with it when it's bad, and when I have good days I feel blessed. A year ago I developed a rash, similar to teenage zits under the right nostril, traveling down around the corner of my mouth and chin. My rash felt prickly hot and raw. Nothing I used helped, and it just got worse.
