Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia symptoms and treatment options

fibromyalgia

Avatar m tn Consult a doctor and start a multivitamin/mineral supplement as nutritional deficiencies can also cause body aches and muscle aches. The other treatment options are cognitive behavior therapy, psychotherapy, physiotherapy etc. These all can help you cope up with fibromyalgia and lead a better quality of life. I sincerely hope it helps. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Although there is no cure for fibromyalgia, home treatment can relieve some of the symptoms. Fibromyalgia pain is muscle pain and the most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, gentle and low-impact exercise. It keeps muscles conditioned and healthy and decreases the amount of discomfort. It is very important to try low-stress exercises such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking rather than straining exercises such as weight training. Heavy exercises worsen the symptoms.
Avatar f tn Have they checked you vit D level? Symptoms of vit D deficiency are: calf muscle & feet pain cramps in feet & legs muscle weakness waddling walk bone pain & weakness fatigue insomnia tingling in extremities diarrhea depression heart palpitations confusion/unorganized I know when the symptoms are flaring, I have to be careful NOT to push myself. Even when I've got a million things on my "to do" list. So the plan would be to exercise when your symptoms are not so bad.
Avatar f tn Today after seeing my neurosurgeon and him telling me he cannot do anything to fix me because nothing is showing up on my scans, I almost broke down and cried because no one seems to know what is wrong with me. I researched Fibromyalgia and discovered a lot of the symptoms I am having. I thought I was to young to have this, I am only 22. I am wondering more and more if this is what I have.
Avatar f tn People my age don't just have these symptoms for no reason. Any advice on treatment options for fibro. and what things I might want to suggest the doc look for would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Any physician who treats you needs to be willing to let you make some decisions on your own, and maybe even try a variety of treatment options. For me, amitryptiline works wonders. For a friens, it's Remeron. For another, Tylenol PM works (although this doesn't induce a natural sleep, she swears it is all she needs). If you're like the Fibro sufferers I know, you may want to scream when told, "lose weight and exercise", but try some light yoga.

Avatar f tn You have stiff neck? RA symptoms? Chronic hadaches? stomach and bowell issues? ovarian cysts or a hysterstomy? brain "fog", vertigo, anxiety? If so your Fibro might be in fact a mycoplasma infection or possibly Lymes. Can you give me a full report of your symptoms? Search www.immed.org and look under AI diseases/chronic illness.
Avatar f tn I also have Sjogren's, fibromyalgia, and a variant on the MEFV gene. My doctor prescribed Elmiron which I just started. Is there a connection between interstitial cystitis and Sjogren's, fibromyalgia, or the inflammatory response from the genetic variant? I'm wondering if there are other treatment options besides the medication that will also address the other issues.
Avatar f tn Instead, I have found myself working with a more holistic type doctor who handles hormones, thyroid issues and adrenal issues as well as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. He is also a PCP doctor, so he takes my insurance. I also see my Rheumatologist as well to make sure I have the specialist managing everything because I am on a Intermittent FMLA leave from work.
Avatar f tn Also write down how this pain and other symptoms have affected your quality of life and how long it's been going on. Having these things written down before you go into your appointment will help you to remember to tell your doctor EVERYTHING. Many people get nervous when they're in a doctor's office and it's quite common to forget things we wanted to tell the doctor.
Avatar f tn etc.... and it was very bad when all of these symptoms started this summer and i mean really bad. Now I am trust the lord and praying asking and begging for mercy and healing and expecting it as well. I do have my off days and I just try to pull it together and I thank god I have my husband because he snaps me out of my pity parties that I have some times and brings me back to reality.
Avatar n tn there is no such thing as fibromyalgia. this word has been invented by doctors to mean "we don't know what is wrong with you". what you have to do if you have this "illness" is get all of the requisite tests done. i.e. neurologist etc... etc... after you have ruled everything out - do NOT accept fibromyalgia as a diagnosis. The drugs are a total waste. Do the following only after you have ruled out more potentially troubling causes: 1.
Avatar f tn I feel so lost as to where to begin treatment that all I can do is cry and pop a pill to make the symptoms a little more tolerable. I took vicodin for a pulled tooth for one day and felt terrible...I don't even crave the narcotics but I can't stand this pain anymore and I feel I am at my breaking point. I have babies that need me and I am only 31 and should be hobbling around like an 80 year old woman you know.
Avatar n tn Both fibromyalgia and CFS share many of the same symptoms. However, pain is major symptom with fibro patients' and fatigue in CFS patients'. I think you should have numerous labwork done on you. Your physician should be familiar with diagnosing and treating CFS and also rule out autoimmune diseases first. It does sound like you very well could have CFS. There isn't a standard treatment for CFS, but you do have some options. Keep in touch...
1023657 tn?1251848541 I am sorry to know that you are suffering from Fibromyalgia for 15 yrs. It is sad but true that the origins and causes of Fibromyalgia Syndrome are unknown. There have been many suggestions regarding the cause but a definite cause is still not known. Some studies show that reduced blood circulation into the muscle cells causes damage to the energy producing mechanism, which causes the deficiency of energy in muscle tissue.
Avatar m tn I am really empathetic to anyone going through all the hell symptoms your describing like i have for yaer's and lot's of 'Misdiagnoses' and FIBROMYALGIA.M.E is the Famous ones. Love Tswana xxx LYME DISEASE Holistic treatment options of Lyme disease are often more effective than antibiotics and prescription medication. Tweaking the daily diet as well as supplementing one’s daily routine often relieve the symptoms of Lyme disease and naturally cure the condition.
Avatar f tn These doctors are more skilled in interpreting MRI films and may have other treatment options to offer. The services offered by the healer may not be directed at correcting the underlying problems, but could provide some comfort measures. The fact that the previous conservative treatment failed to relieve your symptoms would tend to discount the potential value of pursuing this approach.
1852058 tn?1320162300 - when the pain and fatigue won't be as severe. And then you'll have time when your symptoms are absolutely horrible. Unfortunately, that's just th enature of the "beast" of fibro. Sleep is VERY important to everyone, but especially to those of us with fibro and as you already know, sleep is quite often very difficult for us. It's a vicious cycle - we can't sleep because we are in pain and don't feel well and our pain and fatigue are worse because we aren't sleeping.
Avatar n tn The doctors I was referred to for consult were also fantastic. I sincerely you try and explore your options and are able to change ohyscian. Mt injury was at work putting my HCV under lL& I. They would only approve meds for 30 days at a time due to cost. Mt heasach meds, massages, were all covered. I had to go on Neropren (meds for low blood sugar). L & i would only cover it if I was really anemic.
Avatar m tn Stress, excessive physical exertion, lack of sleep and change in humidity may precipitate it. Treatment of fibromyalgia includes Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants such as flexeril, tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(includes aropax), anti-seizure drugs like gabapentin and pregabalin and central nervous system (CNS) stimulants such as modafinil.
8496079 tn?1398416116 I have chronic back pain and want to know if lycra has narcotics in it
Avatar m tn Now I am really confused because I went to Web MD and it said Lyrica is commonly used to treat Fibromyalgia and is the first drug approved by the FDA to treat it. I just looked it up by going to Web MD typed in lyrica fibromyalgia and live search has that posted.
Avatar n tn Some of your symptoms sound like migraine symptoms. You could even be having silent migraines. The sore muscles and weakness could represent fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Headaches, migraines and all sorts of symptoms are very common in these disorders. Have you seen an opthalmologist for the eye pain? If there's nothing wrong with the eye then it could be from a migraine type headache.
748543 tn?1463449675 I, as most responsible medical professionals, believe in using the most conservative successful form of treatment. As one who treats patients with most severe TMD symptoms, I can assure you that my patients are unable to manage the pain associated with these conditions by simply receiving counseling on their habits. What's more is that I find that dental malocclusion is frequently one of the principle causes of the TMD.
Avatar m tn I understand, you're in a boatload of pain and that's hard, but you haven't asked about hep c and treatment options, which if successfully treated could very well alleviate many of your symptoms. You have received THE BEST advice here to go to your ID( treating doctor) & have a full medical history assessment. Your doctor will know the most effective and least harmful approaches for your body & surely your gastric issues.
Avatar m tn My wife has had Fibromyalgia, Sjogren's and Reynauds for about 12 years. Apparently she contracted these autoimmune conditions after undergoing routine rotator cuff surgery. In the last few weeks, she had blood work done in connection with a colonoscopy. Her gastroenterologist order a liver panel that came back with an M2 reading of 126.4 and an Actin smooth antibody level of 30. The other levels were negative.
Avatar n tn Since then I have never been the same - I have had periods (much shorter this time) where the severe/acute symptoms come back again, and have had numerous infections including costochondritis and diverticulitis and even had to get my gallbladder removed after a sudden onset of pancreatitis. In 2007 I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, hashimoto's, IBS, and dormant ebstein-barr and HHV-6.
1830047 tn?1321671393 When a person has new and/or worsening symptoms how do they know when to look beyond FM? I was warned not to over attribute to FM, but my local neurologist doesn't even want to see me before prescribing muscle relaxers and saying everything is FM. It may be, but when do you stop making that assumption? I don't want to waste my time or my doctor's. My symptoms are many and they come/go. Most of my problems are caused by fatigue, pain, weakness, and muscle cramps-spasms-etc.
