372328 tn?1214776427 A dog who flings himself at his crate door and is terrifically excited is not going to be the dog for you. You want a dog who is curious and interested, but not overly excited. Conversely, a dog who is cringing in the back of its crate is probably fearful and insecure, and it sounds like you aren't familiar enough with dogs to deal effectively with either extreme. While it's true that Goldens are generally great "people" dogs, so are many other breeds.

Avatar f tn That is why He has liberally sprinkled encouragement against fear throughout the Bible. Beginning in the book of Genesis and continuing throughout the book of Revelation, God reminds us to “Fear not.”............... Avatar n tn My 5 1/2 years od sun is all of a sudden very fearful of our family dog. The dog is a large lazy lab that we have had since she was 6 months old- she is 8 now- and my 4 and 5 years old have grown up with her. They can pull on her- ride her like a horse and she loves every minute of it. She is as gentle and great with kids as any dog could ever be. She has never made an agressive move toward anyone. Out of the blue - he will not be in the same room as her, get near her, feed her or walk near her.
587083 tn?1327120262 You have a very insecure dog on your hands who needs a confidence boost. The peeing is a sign of submission. He is trying to tell you that he sees you as a strong pack leader and is kind of beating you to the punch. "Don't be mad at me! I'm a good dog! See - I'm even peeing so you'll know it for certain!" This behavior is not necessarily something he will grow out of.
Avatar n tn My dog is a maltese/poodle x, my dad has recently built a new fence in the backyard, and ever since she's been acting really odd. We don't know if it's because of the fence and the new surroundings for her or if it's something else. She has been shivering and having little panic attacks every time she comes inside from doing her business.

Avatar n tn re new to puppies and dogs, your best bet will be to go to dog school. Petco and PetSmart usually have in-store classes for a low fee. And we want to see puppy pics!
5967922 tn?1377546960 He wants to try and get away from the noise by going outside, but then is fearful outside and wants to come right back in. I recently got him a thundershirt, but he still shivers in it. Sometimes his shivering can last 20-30 minutes depending on what has frightened him. Any ideas on what might be causing his new fear and what might help him?
Avatar m tn Has anyone had their dog get seizures as a side effect of the dog flu vaccine? And has keppra been successful as a sole treatment option?
82861 tn?1333453911 I see that the movie "Marley & Me" starts showing on Dec. 25 in theaters. If you haven't read the book, READ IT! It's the best dog story I've ever read - and it's true. I give fair warning though: you WILL cry at the end. I loaned my copy of the book out to dog lovers and to a man (yes, most were men) they ALL cried at the end. It's the typical story of dog ownership. All the ups and downs, aggravations, joy, laughter, and loss at the end are included.
Avatar m tn My dog has chronic dry eye, persistent conjunctivitis & scarring on his cornea from a corneal ulcer. He has been on maxidex for 3 years. He can still see & is 14.5 years old & has cataracts. I have been told he is a good candidate for cataract surgery but I am not sure. Any advice??
Avatar n tn It was recommended that I feed the hepatic food and give liver supplements [Denamarin]. My dog is VERY anxious and fearful around other dogs and the use of shen calmer has been recommemnded. My question is will the use of Chinese herbs have an affect on the liver and should I not consider using them? My dog does get accupuncture regulary. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I agree that this is a reasonable fear and probably one you shouldn't mind overall. That's a big A dog. Maybe she will warm up but that she is initially fearful? That makes sense. He's a huge dog. As a dog lover, I can understand. Hopefully she will begin to be less stressed by the dog over time.
Avatar m tn My 3 year old dog was having surgery to remove an ovarian remnant left during her spay. The original spay occurred when she was 6 months old. We were reluctant to have to put her through a big surgery, but she developed stump pyometra, and we felt we had no choice. Her blood work before the surgery was normal. They told us they generally only do EKG's on older dogs so we decided not to. We didn't want her to be too scared by having extra tests done.
Avatar f tn t want this to get worse and find out you could have prevented it. I am sure the dog is fearful when it is happening!
1618629 tn?1308270701 If the Dallas Animal Control officers observed this dog for 10 days and it showed no signs of being infected with rabies, you can rest assured the dog was NOT rabid. You also stated the owners had all documentation for this dog. I will assume it included an up to date vaccination record which would include a rabies vaccination. Your fear is feeding your anxiety, your anxiety is fueling your fear and you're in a whirlpool which your doctor could have stopped with simple information.
Avatar n tn I have become a mother late in life (I am 49) my boyfriend/partner is my age and his two kids are 13 (girl) & 11 (boy). Both the children are fearful and neither like to be alone. The girl still wets her bed almost every night and the boy will not go upstairs alone. He will not go to bed until the father goes to bed. Ironically, they all love horror movies, which could contribute but I think it is something more...
