419126 tn?1242412170 If you are crate training you never put the dog in it as a punishment. Since you are having a baby crate training might be good if you are not doing it already. This way when you cannot keep an eye on the pup you put them in the crate and at night or when you are away. But never as a punishment. Also its great for potty training.
372328 tn?1214776427 A dog who flings himself at his crate door and is terrifically excited is not going to be the dog for you. You want a dog who is curious and interested, but not overly excited. Conversely, a dog who is cringing in the back of its crate is probably fearful and insecure, and it sounds like you aren't familiar enough with dogs to deal effectively with either extreme. While it's true that Goldens are generally great "people" dogs, so are many other breeds.
Avatar f tn She's showing anxiety and boredom from being left. Puppies need a lot of attention and things to chew on. She will not outgrow this chewing stage until she's a year or two old, depending on the breed. Some breeds never outgrow the chewing. They have a strong need to chew. It's unfortunate that you have to work and leave her alone. The ideal thing would have been to adopt an older dog then. Puppies just need a lot more attention.
Avatar f tn Oh no! I'm so sorry for this accident for everyone concerned. Luckily, it sounds like the people involved were very nice about the whole thing. Sick or not, you have a dog with a very dominant personality and in his mind, HE owns you both. It's past time to regain authority over your dog. :-) The so-called "dog expert" you hired is a total idiot.
Avatar f tn I wish someone would have told me this when i started training my dog! it was very hard to get her to go outside since the pad was inside the house when i started training her. Praises and treats worked real well. Also make sure you use the same word all the timewhen she goes where you want her to this i found was very important. i would take my dog out every three hours and waited for about 15 minutes for her to go.
Avatar f tn He will sit to pee but immediately jumps off. This is the third day and when these fearful behaviors begin he poops in his pants within 20 minutes. He comes straight to me and asks me to clean him. Yesterday, a friend told me to let him sit in his dirty pants for a few minutes. It broke his heart that I didn't change him. Today, he again came straight to me and I waited. Talking to him for a minute before I changed him. He just refuses to go on the potty. What do I do?
404138 tn?1308941656 00am until about 8:30am. BUT tomorrow, what do I do? The dog would go in the crate after he eats and goes out at like 7am until 3:30 when DF gets home. thats EIGHT and 1/2 hours. Is that too long? (Q3)Next week he'd be left Mon & Tues....I know he will get trained with time and patience .....How long would you say it might take him to catch on and be fully trained?? (Q4) How often do I take him out in between meals? Wed, Thurs Fri Sat & Sun...
Avatar f tn .iihave a female black toy pug shes training but not letting it stick to her how can iget her twe train and remain trained?
Avatar n tn t punish him if he has an accident in the house, though, or that can impede the training. He will just become fearful. Try to use positive reinforcement as much as possible. It will probably take some time but be patient. With some work you should be able to potty train him soon. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn You'll never know what happened before, so forget about it. You have to deal with the behavior in front of you from your dog's perspective rather than a human perspective. Take her fear of thunder for example. If you treat her as you would a human child with lots of cuddling and talking, you will only reinforce her idea that there really IS something to fear. Then she'll further learn that fearful behavior will earn affection.
717953 tn?1230127059 Does anyone have experience training a deaf dog? I have a 3 year old deaf white German Shepherd. I guess it's not uncommon for white dogs to be born deaf. He knows some hand signals. I pretty much am having trouble disciplining him. How do I tell a deaf dog no? He puts everything in his mouth (and usually swallows), he also gets really hyper. He's jealous when I spend time with my boyfriend sometimes.
Avatar n tn Hello, i agree with lindapalm, however depending on the level of hyperness your dog has my concern is if he is jumping up on people or yipping a lot when people enter. What I'd personally do is either spot training or crate training.
404138 tn?1308941656 * hours is pretty long for the dog to be stuck in a crate. Is there anyone that can go over and let the dog out temporarily to go potty in the backyard? I do that for a neighbor, as their dog is being crate trained. All puppies will cry when they are alone, but if you don't baby them too much they'll stop. They just have to get over the first initial loneliness after a while. My puppy cried for a few days and then stopped, as we have her crated downstairs.
Avatar m tn the puppy should not be away from the adult dog until 7-8 weeks 7 weeks minimum, and the dog probably should not start training until about maybe 8 weeks depending on the breed, the sweet treats are a big no because the puppy only starts eating puppy food around five to six weeks.
Avatar f tn dog training is actually all about training the humans!) I can highly recommend any of the books by Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer. They're very easy to understand, and you can immediately begin using his techniques. You will learn to understand how dogs communicate with one another and recognize exactly what it is that scares your shepherd. Once you recognize the problem, you can help her overcome it. It is so much fun to learn how to "speak dog".
Avatar n tn My 5 1/2 years od sun is all of a sudden very fearful of our family dog. The dog is a large lazy lab that we have had since she was 6 months old- she is 8 now- and my 4 and 5 years old have grown up with her. They can pull on her- ride her like a horse and she loves every minute of it. She is as gentle and great with kids as any dog could ever be. She has never made an agressive move toward anyone. Out of the blue - he will not be in the same room as her, get near her, feed her or walk near her.
587083 tn?1327120262 You have a very insecure dog on your hands who needs a confidence boost. The peeing is a sign of submission. He is trying to tell you that he sees you as a strong pack leader and is kind of beating you to the punch. "Don't be mad at me! I'm a good dog! See - I'm even peeing so you'll know it for certain!" This behavior is not necessarily something he will grow out of.
Avatar n tn I am looking for any advice on or help with a French Beauceron Shepard dog. He is large for the breed weighing 55 Kgs and is taller than most. He is very fit and powerful. But he suffers from boughts of sudden aggression with strangers. He has bitten two people and recently attempted to snap at the hand of a vet who was sent to our home to assess him after a recent complaint was made. He is now labelled an aggressive danger with phsychology issues.
2123489 tn?1335081388 Hello & welcome to the forum....You cannot make him a calm dog overnight....That would be unrealistic! You are setting yourself up for not only a disaster, but a lawsuit! You MUST go purchase a crate TODAY, to keep your dog in while the workers are there....... You cannot correct this behavior in a short amount of time.......Get a crate for your dog's and your worker's safety........After your house is finished, look into some training classes for your guy!
