Enbrel medication

Common Questions and Answers about Enbrel medication

enbrel

Avatar f tn I started Enbrel along with an injectible dose of.09 Mtx weekly. For me Enbrel was a light-switch medication and within 2 weeks I was a normal functioning adult again with no pain at all. My only real complaint is that my hair has become substantially thinner and I am considering stopping the Mtx to see if there is an improvement. Over the 22 years I have had this disease I have learned that Mtx is a bigger health risk than Enbrel.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Enbrel for 5 years. I am 57 years. In the last year I have developed a head tremor which is getting progressively worse.
Avatar n tn If your symptoms of throat infections and sinusitis are evident and have worsened since starting Enbrel, then it could be related to the medication. Discuss alternative options with your doctor, before discontinuing Enbrel. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn it was a dollars and cents issue. My husband retired and my lifelong coverage of medication was reduced to $100,000. On a medication like Enbrel, I would go through that within 4 to 5 years. That would mean that I would have no coverage for the time between age 60 and 65. Once I hit 65, I'd have coverage. I decided to take a gamble to see if there were other medications that would do the trick for me and so far there haven't been any.
Avatar m tn Can you take enbrel for psorasis and interfern for Hepatitis C, and be safe and will both medication work

Avatar f tn Hi - has anyone who has ever been on Enbrel noticed a rust-colored staining on the hands? I'm not sure if it is directly related to enbrel, but I thought I would ask. My daughter was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several months ago, and has tried Remicade unsuccessfully. Now, she has had 2 injections of Enbrel, and just today has noticed the staining on her hands. I don't know what to think, so I'd appreciate hearing from any of you.
1544019 tn?1318504526 I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was 19 years old. I'm now 32 and pregnant. I've been giving myself shots of Enbrel to control it since 2001. When we started doing IVF treatments to get pregnant, I went off of the Enbrel. For the first two trimesters, my RA seemed to go into remission and I didn't need any treatments - which was a MIRACLE! Now I'm starting my third trimester (I'm 27 weeks) and I am starting to have ALL SORTS of complications with my joints.
Avatar f tn I’ve been taking Enbrel for the past 15 years or so with HUGE success! I have since Retired from work last month and now have a limited income. I signed up to Medicare/AARP for my post retirement healthcare requirement. During employment my Co-Pay was 25 dollars for a month supply. Now, Medicare and AARP collective insurance leaves me with 1,000 dollars for a month supply. Retail? $4600-$5500 for a 4 doses (month supply) Is there ANYTHING else that works as well as this?
Avatar n tn d like info on natural enbrel alternative.
Avatar f tn Just started taking Enbrel self injection, haven't had RA meds since August. Feeling lighted a bit and very anxious. Is this normal and will it fade as time goes on?
Avatar f tn ve been on Enbrel for about 5 years and it has been an extremely good medication for both the psoriasis and the psoriatic arthritis. My concern is what am I going to do now that my husband is retired and my health insurance won't cover the cost. I live in Canada and the cost of this medication is approximately $22,000.00 a year which my husband's company insurance covered but now that he is retired, it will not cover the cost for my lifetime.
Avatar f tn t mean to frighten Enbrel users. For many ppl Enbrel is a wonderful medication that causes no serious side effects and brings great benefits. There are many testimonies that support it's effectiveness. However with any drug, (even Aspirin) that doesn't apply to 100% of the ppl. No one should discontinue any medication without first consulting their physician. I am hopeful your Rheumatologist will listen to your concerns and address them.
Avatar n tn Hi Sue, Thanks for the support! I was on remicade before Enbrel but I hated it. I hated having to sit there for hours to get the treatment and then it always wore off on my after about 3 weeks and I'd be hurting. The Enbrel was much more consistent for me. I did go to the doctor friday and they said yes, the arthritis makes you more prone to injury but that the steroid shots make that risk of injury far worse. Sigh. I played tennis on saturday and I re-sprained my hand big time.
Avatar f tn Hi, recently my mother was switched to enbrel, now she can get the medication at home. I will be injecting the medication weekly. I read on the instructions that you are supposed to aspirate and then supply the medication, this is to ensure that a vein or artery has not been hit. We are going to be using pre-filled syringes. Now, I am a bit worried because what if when aspirating I get blood in the syringe? Do I have to discard the medicine?
Avatar n tn Hello there, I am 24 years old male I was recently diagnosed with Reiter's Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis). I am positive for HLA-B27 antigen. It's been almost one month since the first swelling and before that I had Chlamydia. My symptoms so far are swelling in knees, elbow, ankles, toes, wrist, fingers, and I think in my spine too, and of course, pain and stiffness. I didn't have any other problem from the list of problems that come with Reiter's.
Avatar m tn Isn't enbrel an immunosuppressive medication? It would make sense that it would stop your own immune system from holding down the virus.
5625068 tn?1371156181 now need to decide on a medication and have been giving the chose between the infusion and giving myself shots. My doctors seems to be leaning toward Humira shots. The idea of giving myself shots for the rest of my life is very overwhelming. My mother gives herself shots, and wants the infusion, but cannot because she would have to change medicines and her Embrel is working so the Dr. wont switch her. Does anybody have any insight to which is better.
422104 tn?1209763904 Anyone taking Enbrel? Got my first shipment today and want to wait for the weekend to inject in case of any side affects. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I would also think that you may want to start with a milder medication and then see how you respond. Enbrel is a drug that they usually work up to, not start out with. I would ask about starting on something for inflammation, like relafen, and then maybe plaquenil. If that does not control the symptoms, then Enbrel might be the next step.
Avatar n tn weird, never thought that enbrel would be a cause of hpv. I have developed hpv before starting on enbrel. what connection is there between the two?
422104 tn?1209763904 Doctor, I would like information related to Enbrel and MS. I used Enbrel for less than one year. I now have demylination of the cervical spinal cord, both optic nerves, plaques in my brain, numbness in leg and balance problems. I am now fifty eight. Symtoms started at age fifty six with numbness in leg and balance problems. I have been told it looks "MSish." Questions: now that the new symptom of, the optic nerves being demlinated, is it MS?
Avatar f tn I have been told to get off Enbrel for needed gallbladder surgery. My problem is that when I get off Enbrel, every joint in my body swells, turns red, hurts unbearably and locks up. I become completely bedridden and cannot get dressed or go to the bathroom without help. My blood tests show that, even with the Enbrel, my c reactives and other immune response numbers are very high. They tell me that they will give me prednisone to help with the reaction.
Avatar m tn My doctor wants to put me on Enbrel but i am nervious about it. All the reading i do about it suggests that the cure is worse then the disease and it seems that the risk of getting cancer, lupus or the like is extreamly high (higher then the other injectables). I am no stranger to biologics, my doctor had me on Raptiva (before they pulled it) and i loved it. Completly cleared me with no side effects and even kept me clear for 2 years after i stopped using it. But Enbrel scares me.
Avatar f tn There are many, many medications available to treat not only the pain and inflammation, but also slow down and hopefully halt the progression of the disease itself. The frustrating part is finding the right medication or combination of meds for you - no two people respond the same way to the same medications. My "cocktail" is Enbrel and methotrexate, plus an anti-inflammatory called meloxicam (Mobic). These three meds only scratch the surface of what's available. Good luck!
