1415174 tn?1453243103 ve seen posts that if you are allergic to Neosporin you should not get the shingles vaccine. Is the reverse ever seen? Does the shingles vaccine CAUSE one to develop a reaction to Neosporin???
Avatar m tn Personally, I would get the Shingles vaccine. In fact, I did get the Shingles vaccine last spring, even before I knew I had Hep C. The problem with Shingles is that if your immune system gets compromised for any reason, Shingles can become active. I got Shingles when I had systemic vasculitis in 1993-94 and was on steroids for the vasculitis. Luckily, I recognized that I had Shingles fairly early in the outbreak, got a prescription for Valtrex, and had no residual nerve damage.
147426 tn?1317265632 However, it is a live virus. What have you read or heard about us getting the Shingles Vaccine and where did you read or hear about it?
Avatar n tn http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/shingles/vac-faqs.htm they've evidently updated the recommendations on the shingles vaccine and according to the CDC fact sheet now it is recommended that you get the vaccine. Not sure what the rationalization is behind the new recommendations to be honest.
Avatar n tn I had shingles twice before being Dx (although I had MS) and finally got the vaccine, despite it being a live virus, as I didn't want it again.
Avatar f tn I am a 60 year old woman who just had a physical and was advised by my physician to get the shingles vaccine. I am in good health and work out at the gym at least 5 times a week. I had no problems until after this injection. I questioned how high the injection site was (I am a nurse) but it was too late.
Cat I know the shingles vaccine is a live vaccine and that afterwards you need to stay away from infants. How long do you shed virus. I have a newborn grandson.
Avatar f tn As for the shingles vaccine, there is certainly no evidence that it would cause an MS exacerbation, and shingles can be very painful, so I would probably get it. The shingles vaccine (called Zostavax) has been recommended since 2005 for all persons over age 60 to prevent shingles and postherpetic neuralgia.
Avatar m tn CDC recommends adults age 60 and older to get the shingles vaccine. However, the vaccine is not fail-safe.Some people develop shingles despite vaccination. Hope this helps. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I have had shingles 3 times in the past-years before Breast Cancer and the shingles vaccine coming out. I currently take Arimidex and wonder if I should get the shingles vaccine. This discussion is related to Shingles Vaccine for Breast Cancer Survivors.
1930700 tn?1327064904 I got a Hep B vaccine years and years ago but I did not get my Hep A vaccine until this past year. I also got a pneumonia vaccine, a shingles vaccine, and a renewed tetanus-diptheria vaccine. Plus, the flu vaccine. Sorry you got so sick from it, but in the long run it is wise to get them.
Avatar n tn My primary care doctor advised me not to receive the vaccine since I already had the shingles, but I have read and heard from others that I should get the vaccine because it could return. I hope you can advise me concerning this problem.
Avatar m tn I will tell you though . . .totally worth getting as shingles is awful. And even if you have had shingles, you can get it any time again and again. And there is a pain syndrome that can happen from it that is chronic. No thanks. BUT, the vaccine is a bit rough. For me, the first one laid me out. I had headache, nausea, fatigue, muscle aches and pretty much slept like I was getting over a major illness. I felt worse with that than any other vaccine I've ever had.

893721 tn?1241560424 Hashi's weakens our immune system, and shingles comes on if the immune system is weak. I know a few people that have had shingles, but never a problem with their thyroid. So just having a weak immune system might be a reason for getting shingles.
Avatar m tn I am 57 and asked my doc about it and she said best to wait until eot, didn't say why and I didn't ask...
Avatar f tn i just googled this because they think my older son,18 had shingles and my 5 year old who had the pox shot got the pox after a week or two. I just googled this Chickenpox and shingles are two diseases caused by the same virus, varicella zoster virus or VZV. The virus is similar to the herpes virus, the roseola virus, and to the Epstein-Barr virus (which causes mononucleosis). Until the late 1990's, most children caught chickenpox as children.
Avatar f tn My husband found out a few weeks ago that he came down with the shingles. N he went to the e.r and he had to stay away from me and our 3 year old daughter Bcus it was very contagious n it can be dangerous for pregnant women.
Avatar n tn No trauma but he did have the shingles vaccine approximately 2 weeks before experiencing shortness of breath and then diagnosed with paralyzed diaphragm. Somewhere in my research I notice an article stating that shingles could affect the phrenic nerve. I was just wondering if there is a possibility that the virus in the vaccine could have somehow affected my husbands phrenic nerve and the subsequent paralyzed diaphragm. Thank you for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn Your wife should talk to her doctor and get the second dose of the vaccine before she becomes pregnant. Chicken pox vaccine is contraindicated in pregnancy as it is a live vaccine. So she should get vaccinated earlier. Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health.
1431734 tn?1421011671 i have tried unsuccessfully to get shingles vaccine before treatment here in ct. it is not as ez as u would think. i am wondering if it is now too late as the tx may cause other issues. one of my close friends just got shingles this week and she is miserable so this got my attention again. i know over 60, the risk is higher and with immune system compromised this elevates risk. any thoughts?
Avatar m tn My opinion is that your pharmacist messed up badly, by recommending the vaccine - and please forgive my ignorance if the new inactivated vaccine for shingles(not live) has been already developed and used in your case , which most likely would not have worked anyway, because of your Humira and Prednisone treatment. If I were you I would probably seek a holistic or naturopathic doctor, to help me correct some of this and bring me back to at least the pre-vaccination state.
Avatar n tn i got HSV-1 ORAL 4 months ago then i read somthing in the internet and i can't avoid thinking of it please doctor i have 5 questions about it .Does HSV-1 can cause encephalitis???what is the risk of encephalitis how much that happen??How can i avoide that?? is there any vaccine to prevent encephalitis???
Avatar n tn Hello, Doing a search on shingles vaccinations/reactions and came across your old (March '08) post. Hoped there might be other respondents. See none. Wondered -- did you ever get the vaccine? If so, how did it go for you? My husband received one this Feb. ('09) and it has affected him very adversely. Months of serious and confusing symptoms later, and disability, we finally got confirmation today via a top neurologist. And, he is not alone.
Avatar n tn By the way, the doctor gave my husband a prescription for the vaccine, too, and he had the shingles a few years ago.
Avatar n tn I then received the Shingles vaccine which was followed within a month by an outbreak that was light. That was followed by 8 months of nothing except the lingering discomfort in the area. Suddenly I began to have recurrences at more frequent intervals. The signs are classic to shingles and I can tell when it is coming most of the time. I must also state that I had a severe case of chicken pox as a child. There was no vaccine at that time. Any ideas?
