enbrel and as

I have AS and was on Revellex for 1 year but then developed a skin rash reaction. I changed to Humira recently and was wondering if anybody has had success with humira who has ankylosing spondylitis. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Doctor, I would like information related to Enbrel and MS. I used Enbrel for less than one year. I now have demylination of the cervical spinal cord, both optic nerves, plaques in my brain, numbness in leg and balance problems. I am now fifty eight. Symtoms started at age fifty six with numbness in leg and balance problems. I have been told it looks "MSish." Questions: now that the new symptom of, the optic nerves being demlinated, is it MS?

one year of Enbrel injections. Although the Enbrel may have lessened the pain and progression. other side effects and basically an unwell feeling. dizziness. sinusitis. Pain in eyes. If this is as good as it gets. there must be something better. anyone else been here and found something better?

I'm in the same vote. On enbrel and have developed hpv. Very tiny bumps if even noticeable at all, but its been spreading. Aldara only made my psoriasis and psa flare up. I guess the next thing is to stop enbrel till my hpv clears up? I am 29, male, non smoker. Enbrel is the only med I take.

ll be getting married this October and am curious to know if any woman out there have gotten pregnant and given birth while on Enbrel.

She was diagnosed and treated 30 years ago and has taken the same generic for 15. My sister has been taking the same thing for as long as I have, but has no tremor.

Thanks smittygirl. I was on the fence with this decision but leaning in the same direction as your perspective. Sunday, today, is my injection day. I've had the p.i. for a week, and it seems to be clearing up despite the Enbrel. So like you, I agree; I'd rather itch a little, then have the chest-wall pain (my main symtom). BTW... good luck with AS. Prior to joining this forum, I read some of the past posts, and yours came forward as a real success story.

So just an update about this. Just when we finally got cleared for me to take the Enbrel while pregnant, we find out it's not going to be into the pharmacy until Friday AND it's going to cost $900!!! BUT it turns out it will actually probably be safer for me TO take the Enbrel. I have to control my arthritis because if I don't control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor.

m thinking (and feeling) that one shot would be okay. In fact, I would rather give myself an Enbrel shot than take prednisone (which is normally what they give pregnant women with RA if they need medication. But I LOATHE prednisone and it's side effects. However - they say it's "safe.") Enbrel has always been good to me and I think it would be okay to take right now.

My husband has ankylosingspondilitis and takes enbrel injections and has considered taking methotrexate before. Best of luck. Could be a real blessing from God :) and a healthy baby!

I am 50 now and tested positive for the HLA B27 gene as well. I was a marathon runner and triathlete and woke up one day and could not move a bone in my body. I had my knees drained of synovial fluid 3 times, had my feet in casts to control the swelling. The pain and stifness was in every joint in my body. Two weeks prior to this I had a UTI. That infection coupled with the HLA gene is what brough on my reactive arthrits.

I have had two shots of Humira, I constantly have sinus issues, pain pressure, teeth hurt and hedaches. I got them on enbrel and after 9 years it quit working, so tired remicade but after 4 infusions I had such a bad insus probelm I quit it also raised my blood pressrue a lot. I don't seem to be able to handle hard core antibidoics so I can take zpack, and it helps, but I always seem to be back on it alteast every two months.

My problem is that when I get off Enbrel, every joint in my body swells, turns red, hurts unbearably and locks up. I become completely bedridden and cannot get dressed or go to the bathroom without help. My blood tests show that, even with the Enbrel, my c reactives and other immune response numbers are very high. They tell me that they will give me prednisone to help with the reaction.

As you must be knowing Enbrel is self injectable, so you can take pre filled syringes with you and take them as indicated by your doctor. Take precautions with the temperature. Enbrel must be refrigerated at 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F). Also, therapy with enbrel makes you most susceptible to infections, so take adequate precautions. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Very well said by silverfox and I don't believe there would be any withdrawal issues, as "biologics" such as Enbrel do not have this effect, other than the effects of inflammation with all of its symptoms, once discontinued and no alternate treatment is taking its place. Did you stop the Enbrel treatment because of changes in your health care coverage?

...there were alot of things he could not do anymore. Since being on Enbrel, the inflamation, pain and swelling is gone. He's doing the things he wants to do and its because of Enbrel. I understand why you are nervous about the side effects, but my dads experience has only been positive.

All my problems started because of the RA, and as my back pain and leg pain got worse they dx me with the AS as well. Now it's hard to tell what pain is coming from what disease. The Enbrel info says it can take 2 weeks to 3 months to work. It helps 2 out of 3 people. I do not have any side effects at all from it thankfully. I am never not in pain except now my hands don't hurt, but my legs and back are soooooo painful.

Hi - I recently had sex with a sex worker in an Eastern European country with high HIV rates (as much as 10% among sex workers). During sex the condom broke so I was unprotected for a short period. I am concerned because I take Enbrel, which is an immuno-suppresant. Does Enbrel seriously increase the risk of transmission?

m convinced that there is a correlation between these things and the Enbrel. Have any other Enbrel users been diagnosed with any of these inflammatory diseases? My gut feeling is that the Enbrel truly is the cause, but it has worked so well on my joints, I'm hesitant to try anything else. My Rheumatologist is going to argue with me about my hypothesis, but I know my body. Can anyone give some insight?

I'M A MALE 59 YEARS OLD BUT WITH A VERY ACTIVE LIFE STYLE. I;VE HAD RA FOR 25 YEARS, STARTING TAKING METHOTREXATE ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO WITH PREDIZONE FROM TIME TO TIME. AROUND THREE YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING FLARE UPS AND MY DOCTOR ALSO ME ON ENBREL, WORKED VERY GOOD FOR THE RA BUT MY NOW MY THROAT IS ALWAYS SORE AND CONGESTED WITH PHELM. THIS YEAR I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS DOCTORS ENT, GENERAL ALERGIST AND EVEN HAD SINUS SURGERY FOR 30 GRAND, NOTHING FIXED THE THROAT PROBLEMS.

Since it is a known risk, your doctor will know how to treat you, and may recommend discontinuing the medication for at least some time.

Right now I am on omniprazole (stomach protection), Naproxen, Plaquenil and Methotrexate. (I have RA and AS.) Most of the drugs they give us take approximately 3 months to assess their affects. It is a very frustrating process, but it takes that long for the medicine to build up in your system and have an impact. I would be surprised if Enbrel helped you so quickly but I would love to hear that it did!

Several ground glass opacities in my right lung showed up on a CT scan in July 2011. Enbrel was discontinued and coincidentally I took a regime of prednisone for an allergy problem - 60 mg for one week, then with a weekly taper. A repeat CT scan was performed in December 2011 and one ground glass opacity remained (15 mm), with a small focus of sold component within the ground glass density. A percutaneous biopsy was performed to rule out bronchogenic carcinoma.

Hi - has anyone who has ever been on Enbrel noticed a rust-colored staining on the hands? I'm not sure if it is directly related to enbrel, but I thought I would ask. My daughter was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several months ago, and has tried Remicade unsuccessfully. Now, she has had 2 injections of Enbrel, and just today has noticed the staining on her hands. I don't know what to think, so I'd appreciate hearing from any of you.

Is there any way you can be over medicated with the enbrel and celebrex? For the fatigue I use vitamin B complex. This really helps me. Good luck and dont give up!

Still trying to get the dosages and combination of drugs right and may be going to Enbrel or Humira soon.

Methotrexate did nothing for me and then I got on Enbrel...miracle drug! I have my life back and am even in the gym running on the treadmill and lifting weights...stick with it if you can...it could be well worth it!
