Does anyone have Ankylosing Spondylitis? I have suffered with the disease and related symptoms for over 30 years. My daughter who was 30 died of the comlications of this diesease three years ago.
I changed to Humira recently and was wondering if anybody has had success with humira who has ankylosing spondylitis. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I am a 44 year old female and have Ankylosing Spondylitis. In the past 2 months I have injured my ankle, my achilles tendon, had plantar's fasciatis (forgive my spelling please!) and now I have pain by the knuckle in the top of my hand and a popping feeling. So I assume I have injured some sort of tendon/ligament there.
This is an awful lot in a short time.
I have ankylosing spondylitis and irritable bowel syndrome. I think they are most definitely related. I've been following a low starch diet (Carol Sinclair's IBS Low Starch Diet) and it has really helped. I've also recently started seeing a nutritionist and had food intolerance tests done, am taking Schussler Tissue Salts and incorporated the Anti-Inflammation Diet Plan into my menu planning. I am a Vietnam Vet and I have been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and I am wondering if there is a link between ankylosing spondylitis and agent orange?
I also have AS and Sulfasalazine didn't help me. I am now on Enbrel and that took about 14 weeks to work but it is working. I have suffered for over 4 years and this drug is the first one that has helped me. Have you spoken to your doctor about changing medications. Hi there, when I was first dx with AS 4 years ago I was put on MTX and Folic Acid, was told you cannot take MTX w/o the folic. Long story short I had to stop the MTX as it made me severely depressed to the point I was having suicidal thoughts. My doc at the time acted like I was crazy but 2 rheumy's one from the Mayo Clinic said it can be a side effect for some people. After I stopped it I was back to my old self, and just an fyi while I was on it, it did nothing to help me.
This also depends on the geographical area, the incidence of ankylosing spondylitis in your area and other environmental and genetic factors. Please discuss with a specialist in your area. Take care!

I have been diagosed with Ankylosying Spondylitis and Fibermyalgia and Sjorgens Syndrome all in the last 3 or 4 years..I have the HLA-B27 Gene passed from my father to me...I have cronic eye infections..i take Enbrel sots once a week they have helped some, but still pain..Any opinions on something else that could be helpful to bring up to my RA Doctor in the next week or so? Cancer has not returned. However he is diabetic and last year was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. He was taking remicade by infusion but had to stop that due to his chronic anemia. The rheumatology doctor told him that the ankylosing spondylitis can cause ulcerative colitis and crohn's. He is now 74 has had 32 blood transfusions over about 16 months and has also been diagnosed with crohn's disease. They believe he is bleeding internally.
I have ankylosing spondylitis currently take Humira and antiflamitories. I avoid sugar and certain meats like chicken and pork to avoid attacks. However one thing I can't avoid is weather changes such as spring and fall. This last year has been a real rough the attacks have been really bad. Any suggestion?

Having one copy of the HLA-B27 variant (of the HLA-B gene) causes an increased risk to develop ankylosing spondylitis; however, most people with this variant do not develop any symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis even when inherited from an affected parent.
We all have two copies of the HLA-B gene - we inherit one copy from each parent.
I was told in February of this year that I have arthritis in my lumbar spine. This was a year after I started having severe lower back pain. I also have a herniated disk, early DDD and stenosis. I was sent to a neurosurgeon who said I was not a surgical candidate due to my age (26). My doctor then sent me to pain management because he had nothing else to offer me. I never had blood work done. Only an XRAY and MRI.

He had a loop monitor put in to monitor his heart (totally norma after 3 months) and through all of this was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (he has minimal if any back pain but does has a few fused vertebrae in his neck and does have stiffness.
His symptoms have only worsened over the past few months.
