Avatar f tn it happened that i am familiar with the ELISA procedure... for me it takes up to 6 hours at best... here it was less than 3..... yep, negative of course. ositive would take a western blot which as i know may take days...
Avatar m tn While getting tested for hiv at Quest Diagnostic ,they did ELISA which included western blot as confirmatory test. But why do write WESTERN BLOT CHEMICAL-ILLUMINANCE in final report even when they have put the test code of ELISA(19923)? Does that mean rather than ELISA they used western blot? Is this some kind of Test Report Procedure of Hiv?
Avatar n tn Dr. EWH, My girlfriend and I tested for hiv and my girlfriend got the result back today. The result says "negative" and in "reference range" column states "nonreactive". It says that test was "hiv 1/2 ABS /W RFLX CONFIRMATION". It also says hiv-1/hiv-2 ABS ELISA. Does that mean ELISA was done first and then confirmed with something else? Or does it mean that it was confirmed by another test because the result of ELISA wasn't good?
Avatar m tn 6 years ago I had protected sex with a csw and because of fear of condom breakage, i was too stressed. Finally after 2 years of this exposure, i took hiv elisa test and the result came 0.11. I dont know which generation of the test was. But my question is that, is this result absolutely conclusive or will i need to take some more tests? Although i got the test from a reputated laboratory but again i am too anxious that they might make some mistakes. Does it happen in the labs usually?
Avatar n tn Ab qualitative diagnosed test. So now I am in doupt what the differnce between EIA and ELISA test? And is there any difference in terms of implemntation method of the test or both is done in same procedure? Is it enough for me (Niegative result at 84 days) to know my HIV status or I should retest?
Avatar n tn stargazerlily If only a Western blot was performed, you should do an ELISA or rapid test. This is the preliminary test that is used, not the Western blot. Also to clarify my earlier comment, Western blots often resolve to be negative when the results are indeterminate (I can't say usually because I haven't seen data on this, but I've heard from people who do testing that often times an indeterminate comes out negative later).
Avatar m tn Hello Rolf, From the point of HIV infection, you have not put yourself at risk after an unprotected blow job. Therefore there i no need for you to be tested for HIV. as follows, let me reply to your questions: 1) Does this sound like a responsible plan from a HIV-perspective? IT IS RESPONSIBLE, MAINLY FOR PEACE OF MIND EVEN THOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE THE TEST. 2) Would the doxy take care of most bacterial stds?
Avatar m tn If oral antibody rapid testing is as sensitive/ accurate as blood antibody test (ELISA) - why do people go for latter to confirm ? I do know that if any of these turn out positive, a WB is done for further confirmation.
Avatar m tn Please remember that testing for HIV is a two-step procedure in which step one is testing with a rapid test or ELISA, if positive, is then confirmed through testing with a second test. Thu with either an ELISA or a rapid test such as the ACON, the second test step is used to prevent false positives. Please keep this in mind as you consider your own test results, particularly, in dealing with things such as the faint lines on the ACON test. Now on to your questions. 1.
Avatar m tn nonreactive (no bands) My doctor was concerned, and so she recommended the HIV DNA test. Well, today I was contacted by my doc, and she told me my HIV DNA test results were negative. Okay, sigh of relief. My doctor, however, is still concerned with my ELISA test results, and has referred me to state health. They will soon be contacting me, but I am still unclear as to why. My doc couldn't really give me an answer. So, 2 questions: 1. What will the health department's procedure be?
Avatar n tn Had unprotected vaginal intercourse and oral sex with ejaculation with white female with unknown HIV status. HIV ELISA/STD testing 3 days post-exposure was negative. HIV DNA PCR and ELISA 35 days post-exposure were also negative. Is there any need for further testing or are the 35 day results conclusive?
Avatar m tn i already pass the 3 month period to get tested for HIV my question is , "HIV AG\AB test" after the three months it will be searching for the AB as well as it search for the AG if it found it, so what is the method used to search for the AB in the (HIV AG\AB) test , 2- is is better than the method in Elisa AB test after 3 months , 3- if i did h="hiv AG\AB" test after three months " is it conclusive as if i did HIV Elisa AB test" thanks in advance
Avatar f tn So if you had an elisa Hiv test,it would be looking for antibodies produced by the immune system for Hiv,same would apply to RA,the elisa would be searching for those antibodies that would be produced if someone had RA.From reading It was established that each Elisa is specific to what antibodies it is looking for, just the name Elisa is the same, that's all.
Avatar m tn A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done. Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured. This period is 3 months from exposure. However, negative WB at 45 days is certainly very encouraging.
Avatar m tn The WB is the royal flush of HIV tests,if it's negative then you don't have HIV--it's that simple.
Avatar n tn Await your confirmatory results, and discuss with your doctor the reason for the multiple false positive ELISA results. If you had untreated HIV for 9 years, you would test positive on every possible test.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I'm a 25 year old female who engaged in high risk sex (receptive unprotected anal). I had my blood drawn at 3 months in a Canadian clinic that was then sent to a lab. 1) I received a negative result for hiv via elisa testing but i'm just wondering if it is possible that my specimen was mixed up with someone else ? From what I learned many patients are on the same elisa plate , so wouldn't it make it very easy to switch those sample by mistake?
Avatar f tn There are different HIV antibody tests. One test is the ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). If the ELISA test is positive, a second test called a Western blot is done to confirm the result. The Western blot takes longer to perform and is more expensive than the ELISA test, but it is more precise.
Avatar m tn 1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing.
Avatar m tn 7 years ago I had unprotected intercourse with a girl 2 times and I have been tested for HIV every year since. The problem I've been having is that little after having sex with this girl I got symptoms that HIV positive people get. I have always had the concern of having contracted HIV and this is why I get tested every year. I met my wife and got married about a year after the encounter.
Avatar m tn Thanks Mr.teak i had a test after 6 months by tridot method and was negative.i was bit confused that tridot detect only hiv 1(c sub type) not other subtype because i had sex in UAE and checked in india for my conclusive result. Where is hiv 1 & 2 found? whether all hiv 1 & 2 Abs test look for all subtypes ( i mean both elisa/eia & Rapid test), if yes, then one test is enough after windows period. Please clear my doubt Mr.
