1516332 tn?1360769186 Hello, It can be due to dandruff skin. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
Avatar f tn I can literally pull my skin off my scalp as if I let glue dry on my scalp and peeled it off.. help anyone??
Avatar n tn I've been struggling with dry scalp for a year and a half now and I've tried so many things over the counter and I can seem to get rid of it. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. Sometimes it can be due to fungal infection/ring worms they start out in spots of thick patches of flakes throughout the scalp then they end up uprooting the hair in the hair breaking it off until there is a bald spot. This is highly contagious and if someone in your house has it you should not be sharing pillow cases or sheets with them of the scalp. Medicated shampoos and creams are useful in such cases. Eat a healthy diet.
Avatar f tn I have extremely dry scalp all over that flakes and itches so bad. I've tried Head 'n' Shoulders, Selsen Blue, Green Tea Tree Oil...everything...when I initially wash my hair it works. But by that evening or the next morning it's back. When I try to use conditioners to help, my hair gets so oily I can't stand it. I don't blow dry my hair anymore because it makes it worse faster. I'm just at a loss of what to else to do to make it go away!!
Avatar f tn Since I had a hysterectomy a few months ago I have had a very dry scalp that I have not been able to get rid of. Are there other treatments? What is causing the dry scalp?

Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff which can be due to internal or external causes. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Internal causes include hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch and heredity predisposition.
Avatar f tn I was getting extremely greasy and flaky hair, I use Kenra and bed head products normally but went and bought aveda's rosemary mint and it totally changed my hair and scalp. No more flakes or itchy scalp for this lady (; the scalp benefits has even helped people with psoriasis. I went and bought the big bottles with the pumps but if you're unsure you can try a smaller bottle for a lesser price. They're pretty close to all natural and extremely good smelling, I definitely recommend it!
1654177 tn?1319842094 I recently used some hair dye and my scalp had a bad reaction to it. I had a little dry scalp previously but nothing crazy. After my scalp was so dry and itching all the time and scabbing. I tried the Shielo Hydrate Shampoo and it was INSTANT relief. I also feel like it took it away, my scalp does itch anymore.
681148 tn?1437665191 I have very dry skin and scalp too. I have to carry a chapstick and hand lotion with me wherever I go and use it on a frequent basis, otherwise I have the same happen.
Avatar f tn Ringworm is a fungal skin infection that occurs on the face, body or scalp. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection.
Avatar n tn My scalp is always very dry and everytime I scratch it, it will flake. I have tried using anti-dandruff shampoo including head and shoulder's and denorex. They help for a short time after washing and then the next morning, it's back to square one. I also have white/lighter patches of skin on my forehead area and have been using hydrocortizone on it for about a month and a half now. Will the patch color return to normal?

Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection which can cause a swollen lymph node also. I think in your case it could be fungal scalp infection and secondary bacterial infection.
Avatar f tn I'm 13 1/2 weeks and my skin and scalp has gotten dry. I added coconut oil to my lotion but it wears off like my body is drinking the lotion. I'm itchy and uncomfortable. I've tried about 4 different shampoos and conditioners and they make my scalp dry and itchy.
Avatar f tn Recently (the past 2 year) I periodically get this same itchyness on patches of my scalp (not dandruff). More recently (last 6 months) I get dry skin patches all over my body (leg, thigh abdoman, buttox, waist and upperarms) these are not as itchy. All of these symptoms come and go as they please, I can not make them go away and have been unable to trace down what causes the flare up, they don't always appear at the same time.
Avatar f tn i have red patches of dry flaky skin on both sodes of my cheeks by my nose and also on my forehead in the middle, from in between my eyebrows up to my scalp. i recently started having this problem a couple months ago. i would like to know what it is and how to get rid of it.
Avatar n tn Hello, Lately I've noticed that my skin tends to be very dry. I seem to have dry skin on my legs, my arms, my hands, my cheeks and I have dandruff too. I can see like dead skin on my face, when I apply make-up it looks cakey, as you can see that my skin is not smooth and soft, rather its dry and looks like the skin is begining to flake off. I moisturize my skin but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Avatar n tn Around my nose and in my mustache area (I'm shaven), about 6 months ago I started developing dry skin and redness in these areas. I have been using lotion to moisturize the area to no avail. I have had ahistory of dandruff on my scalp that comes and goes depending on the season. I'm quite concerned with the redness near my nose though. What can it be, and what should I do?
Avatar f tn Is this something to do with a dry scalp that could be flaking onto my forehead and eyebrows?
Avatar m tn Hi, This could be seborrhoeic dermatitis. It is a skin disorder affecting the scalp, face, and trunk causing scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin. It particularly affects the sebum-gland rich areas of skin. Side effects to inflammation may include temporary hair loss. If severe outbreaks are untreated for extended intervals, permanent hair loss may result, because of damage to hair follicles. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn I have had a problem with dry (white), flaky, itching scalp for the last month or so. It began as isolated spots of dry scalp but has escalated to extremely dry scalp with severe dandruff and flaking. The itching has increased and because I scratch my itching scalp, my hair is thinning and breaking. I have tried scalp oils, but, it actually produces more flaking and dandruff.
Avatar n tn I moved from a very humid climate to a dry, colder climate/higher altitude this winter. Since moving here, we both have developed rashes throughout our body. Dry skin, kind of scaly but not quite, just noticible, red patches some no bigger than a dime some larger. They itch too. I have to assume that this is due to the climate change, but wonder what would be good treatment. I have tried a combination of a good moisturizer mixed with hydrocortisone cream with no luck.
Avatar n tn Environmental factors such as exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps can also dry the skin. Dry skin needs plenty of thorough but gentle cleansing, regular stimulation with massage and generous quantities of oil and moisture. It also needs extra careful protection. Washing dry skin with soap and water not only removes grime but also the natural oils protecting the skin.
Avatar n tn My daughter has eczema on her body. Now her scalp is very dry and itchy which keeps her up at night. I tried puttying baby oil, cetaphil cream, and hydrocortisone on her scalp, and nothing worked. Her pediatrician prescribe betamethasone lotion to put on her scalp twice a week since this is a stronger dose of steroid. I tried that and still her scalp is very dry, flaky like dandruff, and itchy. Do you know what else I could try to help get rid of the dry and itchy scalp.
Avatar n tn I started getting ezcema in my scalp that when I scratch it, the skin peels off and then it turns red. Its not all over my head but it is in spots. Can you please help... Thanks.
Avatar f tn The dryness sounds like a skin condition of the scalp and may be causing the hair loss.
