Common Questions and Answers about Dry skin elderly

skin

Avatar f tn After each incontinent episode you must clean the skin thoroughly with a good cleansing soap like Dial, Ivory or some type that does not contain fragrances. Dry the skin by patting it dry and not rubbing. I would then suggest some kind of a protective skin barrier like A&D, Vaseline or baby "diaper" products. You can discuss this with your pharmacist as he/she will have the best suggestion for these products.
Avatar f tn She is tired, constipated, depressed, has GERD, pain in joints, cold and dry skin and frequent rashes. Her endo today refuses to up her Synthroid (currently taking 125 mcg) because she says her levels are perfect for an elderly woman. She believes pushing the TSH lower and frees higher puts my mom at risk for heart attack because of her age. She also said that positive antibodies mean nothing, and that antibodies come and go all the time.
Avatar n tn Hello, You have not mentioned your age but it can be due to chafing skin. If you are elderly then it can be due to lichen sclerosus. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. Also wear cotton undergarments. Application of mild corticosteroid cream and oral antiinflammatories like ibuprofen/acetaminophen are also helpful. If the symptoms are severe then it will be best to consult a dermatologist.
Avatar m tn I have a 17 year old Maine Coon kitty who usually develops dry and itchy skin in the fall and winter but this year the symptoms have been more severe, he keeps itching himself (he does it in a quick, flailing way too where his whole body will shake) until he has severe bald patches and bloody places on his body.
Avatar m tn As you know I am suffering this for almost 2 years now. This appeared out of the blue in June 2012 (I say out of the blue because I don't take drugs, don't smoke, don't have diabetes, didn't have chemotherapy, and didn't take medicines for long periods of time -besides 1 week of cyprofloxacin in March 2012).
Avatar m tn When I stopped using it, the rash went away. However, the skin there is now extremely dry and rough. I just started using CeraVe lotion around the area. Good or bad? The only way to describe the area is like a elderly person's arm. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I never knew what it was until I saw her poor skin. It would crack and bleed all the time when we used to cover her in eucerin. I used to wait until she'd been sleeping a bit and then lather more on her. Nothing ever changed. Then I was introduced to a company that only produces botanically based products. My boyfriend and his ex-wife were more than willing to try it out so we began with these few products.
Avatar n tn She said no, tested him for dry eye and gave me Cyclosporine drops. I have an appointment with an opthmologist who comes to our town once a month on April 2, but now he seems totally blind. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there any hope for his eyesight? Thanks to anyone who can respond!
Avatar m tn For a few years, I've had these small dry bumps on the skin beneath my eye like it shows in the picture. I also have some discoloration at the skin on the corner of my eye, where it's a bit pale and white. I'm mostly concerned about the bumps, but if someone has a suggestion for the discoloration too, I'm all ears. :) P.S. I wear glasses, if that's of any help!
Avatar n tn then After 3 months, one night- I think it was after one of my many foot surgeries, I started feeling very uncomfortable tingling all over my legs, acompanied by dry itchy skin. After that for seven years every night as soom as I would lie down to sleep the pins and needles and crawling on my skin would return and keep me from sleeping. After 3 years the doctors finally put me on atarax for anxiety. It didn't help much.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if it's just because my skin is really dry or the change from one extreme climate to the next- I was in Maui for a week where it was obviously very warm and then I got home to the midwest where it was freezing. Right when I got home from the trip is when this problem started to happen. I do have a doctor's appointment in a week but it's been so frustrating I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions- Thanks!!
Avatar n tn i ordered dry oxy by opaline solutions. the creepy crawlies, stinging and skin irritations ceased in less than 8 hours and i slept like a baby that night. its stabilized oxygen in a capsule. in the beginning i saw a couple of so called bites, on me i went to emergency. the doctor said they were flea bites.i'm like ok. no dog or friends and family with pets.in my home. she gave me an ointment and made a follow up appointment for two weeks later. then i was told no flea bites.
874521 tn?1424120397 The best way to test for low level dehydration is by checking fur texture and skin elasticity. But if your kitty has been on the hunt/ eat dry diet for a while, it may be hard for you to tell. The skin shouldn't feel dry and should "snap back" fairly quickly when lightly pinched (no pain pinch!). The fur texture should be soft, not dry or harsh feeling. However, since your cat is an outdoor cat the fur texture may be difficult to go by.
Avatar m tn Since then, I've gotten very deep chapping and dry lips, almost like an external layer of dry skin is on them. Really only photos, can show this. I hope you can see, and a medical professional can comment. Is this permanent condition ? from allergic reaction or HSV2 - Herpes ? Is there treatment ? http://imgur.com/JOokgGo,buo6Mml June, 2013 http://imgur.com/zh0z4Nj,CNqcE1I,eHHxqe5,22ce0hw,5Fr6zRd,ELWZj9V I'm hoping to find answers, thank you.
Avatar f tn My elderly father had a recent colonoscopy (nothing wrong there) but a week later a dry raised itchy rash showed on his back, arms and chest.First the Doctor changed the heart pills but nothing happened, then he prescribed a sulphur and it began going away but not fast enough. Now it has gotten worse and looks like a sunburn instead of a rash. The hospital has suggested that it may have been caused from the colonostophy (some sort of a bad bacteria in the procedure).
Avatar f tn This article offers natural remedies, lifestyle habits and essential information on skin care ingredients to help elderly women look younger in a healthier way. Use Deep Cleanser Twice a Day: Cleanser is essential, especially for women in their 50s. Old-age skin have more pores and texture that can hold dust and pollutant for a longer time. So, you will need a powerful deep cleanser. It is advised to cleanse at-least twice and definitely before going to bed.
Avatar f tn Can a deep skin massage which included the neck cause vertigo? This discussion is related to Neck injury cause dizziness, nausea, inability to concentrate,.
Avatar n tn Well, all goodness ended about 6 month in as I think my body developed either an allergic reaction to stevia or something about having your blood sugars messed with in this way caused a problem. I began noticing the dry cracked skin inside my nostrils and immediately stopped everything again because I am very paranoid about diet. No more stevia! It cleared up immediately. BUT… now I get little flare ups depending on my diet. If I have too much bread or sweetened anything it may happen.
1904757 tn?1355333535 Hello, If there is any appearance of a rash like dry skin or fish like skin then the possibilities of psoriasis and icthyosis should be ruled out, otherwise it should be left as such. A biopsy skin can confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn I tried to remove one with tweezers, and it was very tacky (as in sticky) and clearly goes deep under the skin. Part of it broke off but I could still see that the pore was plugged and a day or two later top of the plug was sticking out again. i can't find ANYTHING online that looks like it.
Avatar m tn it took me months to figure it out, because when you get bitten all you will see is a black speck or a tiny white dot(which just looks like severly dry skin...in your hair will just look like dandruff) after examination IS NOT DRY SKIN/DANDRUFF@ALL!!! It flys when it gets older but, smaller one's crawl all over! It will move and kindof flop up when touched(if you can grab it BEFORE it gets into a pore or hair follicle)...
Avatar m tn However I am still having issues with the skin not healing over. It is no longer going red or raw but I am getting dry, white peeling pretty well running with the scar on the right side. The skin seems to scale / peel in cycles every few days. Picture is quite revealing. What next step should I take to address this? I just want the skin to return to a smooth, normal state. I have not treated it in over a month - since that visit to the doctor. What does this look like?
Avatar n tn My dermatologist keeps giving me this Mometason Furoate Cream 0.1% and tells me it is just dry skin. It doesn't help at all. I'm very self conscious of these bumps and want them gone! Help!
Avatar f tn the skin was dry and from experience i knew that new skin had started to form.now 48 hours later the skin is completely dry but the terrible itch still remains. i have cut my nails short to lesson damage from scratching.i find that the loose skin should be left alone to shed itself without my interference.because when i remove loose flaking skin, part of what i am peeling off. is new skin still being formed.the wetness (though not runny) appears again.
5700140 tn?1372655364 One of my cats has a high twitch factor, but she is not elderly like your cat. MewMew is only 3 but twitches like there are strings attached to her skin and it dances and jerks around. I also feed my cats Blue, one of mine is allergic to regular dry food and would almost scratch herself silly when eating a grain based food. I can tell you that I did research on the internet to add some wet canned food to her diet and got lucky and found one without grain.
Avatar n tn If allergy is suspected,it can be diagnosed by skin ***** or patch testing. To reduce eczema flare-ups, avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, dry air, harsh soaps and bubble baths. Use blankets and clothing made of cotton instead of more irritating fabrics. After showering or bathing, pat dry (rather than rub and then apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to trap moisture in the skin. Use a humidifier to add moisture to indoor air during the winter heating season.
Avatar f tn Decrease frequency of bathing and limit bathing to brief exposure to tepid water; after bathing, briefly pat skin dry and immediately apply skin lubricant. Use mild, unscented, hypoallergenic soap two to three times per week; limit daily use of soap to groin and axillae (spare legs, arms, and torso). Humidify dry indoor environment, especially in winter. You can apply a lotion containing menthol and camphor (e.g., Sarna lotion), oatmeal baths (e.g., Aveeno) to soothe the skin. ref:http://www.
Avatar m tn I don't know if all of these relates, but I also have acne prone/dry (combination) skin. I am very scared that I have skin cancer. I will be seeing a dermatologist soon but if anyone knows what may be causing all these problems please let me know!
Avatar f tn My client has an itch. It is mostly on his back and scratching does not relieve it. There is no rash, is not "dry skin". He is an elderly gentleman recovering from a stroke. However, he suffered from the itch long before fh had the stroke. He is currently bedridden, which of course, magnifies the intensity. We have tried antihistamines, and all kinds of herbal and antifungal naturopathic remedies but have yet to find something that will work for more than a day. Can someone help us?
