Avatar f tn Please note Tenofovir is principally cleared through the kidney and dosing adjustments due to renal impairment have not been clinically tested. The followings are extracts from the label information for Tenofovir: 2.3 Dose Adjustment for Renal Impairment in Adults Significantly increased drug exposures occurred when VIREAD was administered to subjects with moderate to severe renal impairment [See Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)].
Avatar f tn I am not aware that impaired renal function precludes treatment for HCV. I have read that kidney disease is a negative predictor of SVR but, so too are a lot of conditions yet people have overcome them. I have seen articles which discuss the plasma levels of ribavirin with renal impaired patients. The suggestion is that rather than weight base dose these patients the dose should be arrived at by considering GFR (glomerular filtration rate). This is from Clinical Care Options @ http://tiny.
Avatar m tn By "AGE" I'm assuming you mean a persons age in years. I don't believe age has anything to do with Janumet's "effectiveness" but age has a larger role with renal function. To make it clear for other readers, Janumet is combination of two drugs; Sitagiptin and Metformin. This a brief from the Merck web site - makers of Janumet - Section 8.5 - Geriatric Use JANUMET.
Avatar f tn I also have kidney damage from a bout of high blood pressure 4 years ago, and I am a frequent kidney stone former, so I am being watched carefully by a nephrologist too. I have renal panels frequently too. I was wondering if any of this could increase my stone risk. I was reading about the cytomel and stones. The nephrologist wants me to remain on the synthroid and cytomel.
Avatar m tn I think it depends on some individual factors, particularly renal clearance of the drug. I found this information in the drug reference: According to the manufacturer's tests, the drug reaches maximum serum levels between 15 and 44 hours after subcutaneous injection of a single dose. The mean elimination half-life is 22 to 60 hours (mean = 40 hours). So, I would expect that after 7 days (4.2 half-lifes) that the concentration would be about 5.5% (0.5^4.2) of the maximum levels.
Avatar f tn Our 7 year old yellow lab Rocco was recently diagnosed in the last stage of renal failure just a couple weeks ago. I brought him to our regular vet with symptoms of loss of appetite, bad breath & nausea. The vet did a brief exam & said his exam was unremarkable & didn’t feel like a blood work was necessary. Said he looks like a healthy dog. A week later I called the vet back & said I wanted blood work done. On a Friday they performed blood work & urinalysis.

Avatar n tn Doxycycline is a really good medication and is very safe, so I would continue using the prescription until finished. It is not possible to test for all the tick borne diseases. Your dog could still be afflicted with an undiagnosed tick disease. If the problem is not due to a tick borne disease and it is due to immune medicated hemolytic anemia. It would be best to try to identify the cause, but this can be difficult. Many anemia's are treated with prednisone.
Avatar n tn Glomerular filtration rate or its approximation of the creatinine clearance are measured whenever renal disease is suspected or careful dosing of nephrotoxic drugs is required. The normal ranges of GFR, adjusted for body surface area for males is 70 ± 14 mL/min/m2 (56-84) . Risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, family history and older age. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Liroff, I have been on several different antibiotics over the course of the past month (Doxycycline 11 days, Metronidazole 7days, and I am currently on valtrex). I have finished all of the other medications, but I am currently on Valtrex twice a day for another five days. Recently, I have not be urinating as much as a usually do.
Avatar m tn There are preferred opiates drugs that are use in patients with liver disease that have shorter half-lives and have less harmful side effects on the renal system. Your liver doctor should be aware of these drugs and be able to determine if you may be able to use them. With regards to OTC medications, normal recommended doses of acetaminophen can be safely given to patients who suffer from cirrhosis in the short term.
Avatar m tn But regarding this Vit D , should i need to take along with calcium supllements Or no need? I have renal stones of 0.5mm. Does this have any effect on this?
Avatar m tn If you are stage 3 you can take any analgesic within dosing limits. Your liver function has not been altered by your liver disease yet. If you become stage 4 (cirrhosis) then you will have to modify what drugs you can take because the liver is no longer able to process drugs in a normal manner. Tramadol is an synthetic opiate and should not be taken for "mild" pain.
Avatar f tn Thanks mojogal. What antibiotics did you use to treat lyme? I heard doxycycline can make it worse. My LLMD suspects bartonella since I have the swollen glands, rashes, shin pain, etc.
Avatar f tn Call your local pharmacist. We at MedHelp are not allowed to give out dosing instructions. Your pharmacist will be able to tell you exactly how to dose the medications. If your regular pharmacy is closed on Sunday, call any pharmacist availabe at your local grocery store or drug store such as Walgreens, CVS, or RiteAid.
Avatar f tn I believe the first choice at this point is doxycycline, with an alternative of amoxicillin for those who shouldn't take doxy. I think Ceftin is sometimes used with later stages. I took a week of Augmentin 875, a fairly strong penicillin, when I got my initial onset. I didn't know what I had, but I felt a whole lot better with the meds and seemed to recover. Of course that was insufficient... If I had taken a month's worth, I probably would have been okay.
Avatar f tn RENAL RISK TORADOL is CONTRAINDICATED in patients with advanced renal impairment and in patients at risk for renal failure due to volume depletion (see WARNINGS). RISK OF BLEEDING TORADOL inhibits platelet function and is, therefore, CONTRAINDICATED in patients with suspected or confirmed cerebrovascular bleeding, patients with hemorrhagic diathesis, incomplete hemostasis and those at high risk of bleeding (see WARNINGS and PRECAUTIONS).
1128488 tn?1265053382 AMPYRA is contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl≤50 mL/min); the risk of seizures in patients with mild renal impairment (CrCl 51–80 mL/min) is unknown, but AMPYRA plasma levels in these patients may approach those seen at a dose of 15 mg twice daily, a dose that may be associated with an increased risk of seizures; estimated CrCl should be known before initiating treatment with AMPYRA." Avatar n tn ROXICODONE® is intended for use in patients who require oral pain therapy with an opioid agonist. As with any opi-oid analgesic, it is critical to adjust the dosing regimen individually for each patient (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION). Use of ROXICODONE® is associated with increased potential risks and should be used only with caution in the following condi-tions: acute alcoholism;adrenocortical insufficiency (e. g.
Avatar f tn Below is copied from Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines for Lyme (posted on the ILADS website), including an entry on doxycycline [aka doxy] dosage: "Adults: 200 mg bid [meaning twice a day] with food; doses of up to 600 mg daily are often needed, as doxycycline is only effective at high blood levels." So perhaps your doc's doses are on the light side -- I'd ask him, but sometimes docs get huffy. I'd ask him anyway. It's your health we're talking about.
Avatar f tn I have a beautiful female Lurcher crossbreed called Baillie she about 14 yrs old. Up until last year we had no health issues with her at all... Following a check up at the vet for a little bit of stiffness she was prescribed Metacalm to help her. I gave the Metacalm as prescribed but my poor dog started to look not well. Following the 2nd tablet on the second day she started to vomit and have diarrhoea constantly- both day and night.
Avatar n tn How affective is doxycycline 100mg when taken for a period of seven days to cure infections and std's present in the body alone with a shot a penicillin.
Avatar f tn where did the pills come from?
Avatar f tn I took Doxycycline for 10 days to treat a sinus infection. A week after finishing the Doxy I developed a sore throat and sore tongue. I'm assuming it is a reaction to the drug. How long will this stay in my system and is there anything I can take to alleviate the reaction?
Avatar n tn I have been on doxycycline an antibiotic for about 5 days and i seem to be feeling very anxious and panic like. Does anyone know if this can cause these symptoms. I am also on 25mg of zoloft. Thanks for any help you can give me.
