January 25th I was diagnosed and treated for syphilis. I was under the impression that I was allergic to penicillin so I was treated with doxycycline for 28 because of my high titer 1:256 During that time I drank atleast 3 times a week because of depressed I was with this. I also threw up a few times. April 6th I went to my gyn told them my situation and was retested. Of course it came back positive my dr gave me more doxycycline for 2 weeks.
your symptoms were not typical for syphilis; a doctor made another diagnosis and assured you that your symptoms were not due to syphilis or any STD; if somehow you actually had it one time, doxycycline would have cured it; and your blood test result is conclusive. I certainly would hope you woudn't need more evidence than all that!

It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.
I repeat, you should not worry about syphilis. The doxycycline you took would have prevented/cured syphilis in the unlikely event that you were exposed through the exposure you describe. Your mouth ulcer was not syphilis.
When syphilis occurs, typically the ulcer appears about three weeks after sex and the blood tes for syphilis becomes positve less than 4 days after the ulcer appears.

He risk if syphilis is infinitesimal. If you choose to take doxycycline, it would prevent syphilis but, as I said, you really do not need it. Deal with your guilt, don't waste your time worrying about things like syphilis.
Doctor proscribed me doxycycline becuase I tested positive for syphilis. Wonder how long till symptoms clear with the antibiotic. I currently don't have the soar but I do have inclination on penis foreskin and oral thrush ... any idea?
Syphilis would respond to doxycycline but not the others. However, it is very rare in the U.S., and lesions usually appear on the shaft, not the pubic area.
If it were syphilis, you may not necessarily have received a curative dose of doxycycline, so you might want to get a blood test to be sure that you don't have it. But as I said, I doubt if what you have described were syphilis lesions.
Would taking doxycycline (100mg 2x a day for 14 days) prevent a possible syphilis infection? I started taking the doxycycline 2 days after I had unprotected sex with a female bartender. I also took 2g Azithromycin and 400mg cefixime12 hours after the encounter. Then after I completed 14 days of doxycycline, I took a course of the cefixime (400mg daily for 10 days).

Hi we dont diagnose here but what your describing would not indicate a syphilis sore as they are painless raised bumps. And please dont self medicate.
I am now taking doxycycline which was for my acne and I want to know if it will cure syphilis if touch wood I got it. I was very worried when I have rash develop on my chest, and start to think a lot. Do u think I may get infected? Am I safe with the condoms?
The 2 week recommendation for syphilis treatment with doxycycline is intentional overkill -- based on the assumption that many patients won't complete the full course of treatment. A week probably is plenty -- especially in aborting syphilis before the infection really takes hold.
The penile lesion you had almost certainly was not syphilis.
As I already implied, I do not recommend any more testing.
The recommended therapy for prevention of syphilis in penicillin allergic persons is doxycycline, 100 mg by mouth, twice daily for 2 weeks. To verify that you did not get syphilis you should have a blood test for syphilis both as you start therapy and upon completion. If the 1rst test is negative, the second one will be as well. At the end of therapy you can assume that you have prevented you infection and return to work.
Lesions can be subtle in women and might be missed.
I'm currently on day 11 after 2 shots of penicillin and 2-a-day doxycycline pills. The pain in my urethra and penis has almost completely gone so I decided to masturbate. Would I be able to reinfect myself with Syphilis,Gonorrhea, and or Chlamydia if the sperm of course has to go through the urethra and some came in contact with the penis tip where a old Syphilis chancre (now closed) was. 2. How long can Syphilis bacteria survive outside the body (on say a wet glass of water which was either rinsed with regular water or cleaned thoroughly with a detergent after use)? Are we talking seconds, minutes or hours?
Thank you very much for the answer. I meant white patches on the tongue that are present in oral syphilis, that look similar to geographical tongue. Also I didn't develop a rash on hands and feet even though I know it's typical sign, in my case it showed up on the neck, head and torso, plus swollen lymph glands. I can't consult my doctor for the next two weeks cause I'm away. So I'd be very thankful if someone had any idea, if Doxycycline wouldn't work at all...
