Was diagnosed with syphilis 2 weeks ago and went on the 14 day, 2 pills per day of 100mg doxycycline monohydrate. All of my obvious skin sores and spots almost disappeared except one on my penis head gland close to the pee hole. This spot is still noticeable. With penal activity I can barely make out a little skin discoloration where the other affected areas were. The following are my questions.
1. My urologist suggested I take another 14 days of doxycycline monohydrate.
Having taken antibiotics for helicobacter would have also reduced your risk for getting some STDs (syphilis, perhaps gonorrhea).
I was prescribed Azithromycin to syphilis (early stage). I am allergic to penicilin. However, the doctor prescribed 5 doses (one a day) of 500mg (that is, during 5 days). But I have read that for Syphillis the recommendation is 1g dose (instead of 500mg).
1) Is the dose prescribed enough for Syphillis?
2) five days is enough?

I was on doxycycline for the first urine tests which came back negative. Then I retested 5 days after being off doxycycline. Tests were still negative. I’m still having the symptoms. Had a CBC done and WBC was 5.5 in normal range. My Questions are below:
1. Are these urine tests for gonorrhea etc accurate after being off doxycycline for 5 days?
2. What else could my symptoms be from?

Hi. I would like to ask if the use of Doxycycline would interfere with STD testing if testing is done immediately after completing a treatment or even during a treatment. If it does interfere with STD testing, how long do I have to wait before going for testing (HIV, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia). Thank you.

Yes, 14 days of doxycycline is a recommended therapy for syphilis is persons who have allergic reactions to ceftriaxone (Rocephin). I suspect those who treated you were concerned (as am I) that your reaction was a reaction to the ceftriaxone.

Hi we dont diagnose here but what your describing would not indicate a syphilis sore as they are painless raised bumps. And please dont self medicate.
Syphilis would respond to doxycycline but not the others. However, it is very rare in the U.S., and lesions usually appear on the shaft, not the pubic area.
If it were syphilis, you may not necessarily have received a curative dose of doxycycline, so you might want to get a blood test to be sure that you don't have it. But as I said, I doubt if what you have described were syphilis lesions.
He risk if syphilis is infinitesimal. If you choose to take doxycycline, it would prevent syphilis but, as I said, you really do not need it. Deal with your guilt, don't waste your time worrying about things like syphilis.
Would taking doxycycline (100mg 2x a day for 14 days) prevent a possible syphilis infection? I started taking the doxycycline 2 days after I had unprotected sex with a female bartender. I also took 2g Azithromycin and 400mg cefixime12 hours after the encounter. Then after I completed 14 days of doxycycline, I took a course of the cefixime (400mg daily for 10 days).

All my test were negative, with the exception of syphilis. After a shot of rocephin, 500mg of Azithromycin, and one week of Doxycycline (1 more to go), I feel much better. I have a feeling that the Syphilis test may have been skewed by the bacteria that was in my system as Syphilis does not come on after 2 days, but stranger things have happened. Also, it could have been a joint infection of Syphilis and some other bacteria was causing the symptoms.
Having read this long and convoluted thread, I must start at the begining. You don`t have syphilis nor did you ever have syphilis. Your encounter was no risk, and that sore you describe is not characteristic of a syphilitic chancre. I would bet dolloars to doughnuts that your tests for syphilis will be negative. I recommend you have a RPR or VDRL screen If you`re really anxious about this.. What you had was a skin infection otherwise known as folliculitis..your gram stain showed that.
I am now taking doxycycline which was for my acne and I want to know if it will cure syphilis if touch wood I got it. I was very worried when I have rash develop on my chest, and start to think a lot. Do u think I may get infected? Am I safe with the condoms?
Te ceftriaxone would cure gonorrhea, the doxy and z-pack would cure urethritis and chlamydia, and it sounds like you didn't have syphilis at all, or you would have had a positive test at 41 days. Your syphilis test would have shown lower levels, but would still be positive at that point.
If you waited until you were finished the doxy to have sex, you are fine there. You don't need to wait any longer. The guidelines are 7 days after a 1 time dose, or after you finish the meds.
