It sounds to me like you never found the right dose or timing of how to take the DDAVP. But for sure you were holding onto too much fluids. Of course this would increase your blood pressure and cause the water weight gain. That is dangerous and could cause your electrolytes to get too low. But DDAVP is truly a miracle for those of us who have DI. Seriously I would be so sleep deprived, if I could not take it at night that I would go nuts.
You could chart your input/output for a while once off of the DDAVP to show your endo just to make sure. If are able to sleep through the night without medication that is a good sign too.
I do find that if I overuse the DDAVP I retain fluid and this could causes my electrolytes to dilute (have labs). Also I gain water weight. When I first started using DDAVP ~9 years ago i had to weigh myself every day and measure my input and urine output to get the "hang" of it.
I think I've brought up DI before with you. When I was on higher levels of opiates for pain it seemed to ease up my DI symptoms. Now that I'm off of the higher dose my DI is now in full-swing. So I have to take DDAVP most of the time now. Before I used to be able to get away with only taking it at night. Maybe this is part of what is going on. I don't really have answer per se, but just an idea on why it might fluctuate more if u have it.
But the hormone part can take a year, and will require periodic changes for the rest of your life. I also have DI. I hate it!!! We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
There could be a number of factors. The dose could be too low. 5mg is not a standard dose. Usually I hear of 15 to 30mg! It could be taken at the wrong time (why the trouble sleeping). You may also need florinef to hold on to salt as it is essentially a salt-wasting disease and the sodium levels are still too low to feel well.
My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
I have found that in my case, my DI is more intense when my cortisol level/dose is higher. For me, when my DI goes away it is a sign that I need to up my H/C dose a bit. I am one of those folks who tries to take exactly the amount of Hc that My body uses and not a mg more! RE low blood pressure I think being lower than 105/65 consistently is what is considered low. When you have DI and AI there is overlap in symptoms. I am anal about getting lab checks of my sodium and K.
That seems to be the magic number for some reason. In the meantime, they could put you on a trial of DDAVP (desmopressin) at the very lowest dose, just at night and you can see how you do. They make it in a pill form and a nasal spray. i do better on the pill. But others swear by the spray! Then you can add it to the day as well if you need to. One thing that will help your doc is to measure your input and output for a few days.
I have been recently diagnosed with empy sella/pituitary atrophy and have Hashimoto's too. My last labs on thyroid were FT4 low, but in range and FT lower middle, on Armour 90mg. Thyroid meds have been intolerable and have been on them a year before the doc checked my cortisol levels. My ACTH is 8, my AM cortisol is 6. Aldosterone/Renin normal and Low blood sodium, high urine sodium and normal potassium. I started on pred. for several days and was swithched to 20mgs.HC.

In early 2010, my Armour dose was 3 pills per day, and I felt good. Then I was on 2.5 pills of Thyroid for 1.5 years. In 2013, I was using 2.25 pills. Now I have taken 2 pills for three days. I feel often very hot, and my face is red. I have to urinate often. I have tinnitus and sometimes hear my heart beat in my left ear. The heart is beating too fast. I have slight ache or stabbing pain in my left temporal area. My head is almost trembling.
My thyroid gland has shrunken to very small.
Continued with Keppra and Di Tan Tang 2X/day each for another 8 days. Then took her Keppra down to 1/day for 2 weeks. Then she went one day with no Keppra and the next day she had a seizure. This seizure was longer, but her disorientation was shorter. Vet then said to go back to giving her Keppra for 30 days and we will re-evaluate. So for the next 30 days she was taking Keppra 1/day and Di Tan Tang 2/day.
Does anyone know where Dr Xiao Di formally of the Cleveland Clinic has gone? We were told by the Clinic he would contact his patients in January but it is now March and there has been no word from him, Does anyone have any info?
Also is anyone familiar with a Neurosurgeon from PA Dr Jho?

I know that the usual dose of HC for people is from 20-30 mgs, but i hear that occasionally there are some people who need a little more. How would you know if you are a person who needs a little more HC? What kind of symptoms would you have?

I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
You might ask a Planned Parenthood if they have a health clinic nearby as I know we have one in Sacramento that has everything, though we also have several small health clinics for low-income people.
Kimmi, When my son had his craniopharyngioma removed (also "up the nose") he was given a large dose of an antibiotic, Cephtrioxone, immediately before, and I think even during the operation (in his IV). This led to an overgrowth of Clostridia Difficile bacteria and by the third day after surgery he was very sick, lethargic and had severe diarrhea. Luckily he was still in the hospital.
I think you should call your mother's doctor and ask about getting blood tests done for C.
If you dose high all at once a single time per day the w/d will hit faster and way harder but won’t last as long but you’ll definitely have most of the symptoms if not all of the symptoms of opiate w/d. If you dose low and spread it out each day the w/d will come on a little bit slower and not as intense but will also last a little longer as well. In my experience either way it’s gonna be very difficult for some and easier for others.

For the management of anemia, ribavirin dose reductions should be used (refer to the prescribing information for ribavirin for its dose reduction guidelines). If ribavirin dose reductions are inadequate, discontinuation of INCIVEK should be considered. If ribavirin is permanently discontinued for the management of anemia, INCIVEK must also be permanently discontinued. Ribavirin may be restarted per the dosing modification guidelines for ribavirin.
