Ddavp dose for platelet dysfunction

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp dose for platelet dysfunction

ddavp

Avatar f tn Hey there and thanks for responding! Ok, first off-the reason why my endocrinologist thinks I don't need my ddavp pill anymore is because he said my sodium level has never went low (I think he said it gets either extremely low or high when you have diabetes insipidus). I also went for a urine test called urine specific gravity right before I take my next dose of the pill. He said it came back fine/normal-which I think ment my urine was fine without the pill.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me like you never found the right dose or timing of how to take the DDAVP. But for sure you were holding onto too much fluids. Of course this would increase your blood pressure and cause the water weight gain. That is dangerous and could cause your electrolytes to get too low. But DDAVP is truly a miracle for those of us who have DI. Seriously I would be so sleep deprived, if I could not take it at night that I would go nuts.
Avatar n tn The product labels for both formulations of peginterferon recommend dose reductions for patients with platelet counts between 50,000 and 80,000 cells/µL and discontinuation of therapy if platelet counts fall below 25,000-50,000 cells/µL. Treatment with peginterferon has been shown to reduce platelet counts by up to 33%.
Avatar n tn There are 3 serious medical conditions (right-side heart failure, uncontrolled bleeding, and clots (pulmonary embolism and thrombosis) that requires consideration when prescribing medication. Anticoagulants are effective in preventing pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, but there is a risk for bleeding. More than 80 percent of patients with massive PE die within the first two hours after onset, mainly from right-sided heart failure.
Avatar f tn You bet ! It seems like PATHOGENS are the culprit in many neurodegenerative and even autoimmune diseases.
Avatar m tn I went to 84% of the dose at 48 and then down to 40% of the dose at 39. They automatically reduce your dose when you get down below 50. I was back up to 72 and still keeping with the 84% of dose. I was even off all meds for 4 days because my neutophils got so low and we could not find a pharmacy with neulasta in stock. I have also used procrit for low hemoglobin, I cleared the virus very early and so the reductions in peg don't seem to make a difference.
Avatar m tn It should not be used by anyone who may want to get on a transplant list. As drug or alcohol abuse are conditions for not listing patients for liver transplantation. From the Mayo Clinic "Major categories of pain medications, including over-the-counter analgesics (OTCAs) such as acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibitors, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, and opioids, are largely metabolized by the liver.
1216899 tn?1288570325 I only need to take a very small dose of DDAVP at night so that I am not getting up every hour to pee/drink. But now I can sleep! By day I just chug lots of fluids (2+ gallons) The hubby lovingly calls me a frat boy :) If you get diagnosed and if you go onto DDAVP, you will need really close supervision by a doctor as folks will have a tendency to overdo it on the DDAVP and overhydrate themselves. Until then drink lots!
3093770 tn?1389739126 i was on the reduction for about 2 weeks. I also got 3 pints of blood. dose reduction is the first choice. my platelets and HGB both went back up and I was able to go back to my normal dose. the important thing is to stay on the full dose of Incivek and finish the 12 weeks. your counts will probably go up and they will resume your normal dose. hang in there and try not to worry too much.
Avatar m tn As far as platelet counts... This is from the PEGASYS (peginterferon alfa-2a) Package Insert - "Dose reduction to 90 µg PEGASYS is recommended if the platelet count is less than 50,000 cells/mm3. Cessation of therapy is recommended when platelet count is below 25,000 cells/mm3." Ultimately it is really up to your treating doctor and what they are comfortable with.
Avatar f tn Glad to hear it worked for you. Please share, how did it work for you? You certainly don't believe you are HepC free b/c you used Milk Thistle? If it made you feel better and that's all you wanted then you accomplished what you wanted to, and good for you. It has been know to lower VL, but it does nothing as far as eliminating the virus from your system. I would like to get rid of my HepC and MT isn't gonna accomplishment that for me. Good luck with your herbal experience.
Avatar f tn You should be in the hands of a pediatric endocrinologist for her care, let them decide about the ddavp, this may be masking or exacerbating some of her symptoms.
Avatar f tn I would not do anything and would not worry about this unless there were other indications that you had platelet dysfunction (abnormal bleeding, low platelet count, low blood counts, etc). This is a common issue that arises when patients get the lab reports that show a "L" or "H" highlighted by the computers next to results that are actually not concerning and normal findings. Hope that provides some reassurance.
Avatar f tn The common (spontaneous atherosclerosis) pathophysiologic mechanisms, namely, endothelial injury with early platelet involvement and subsequent progressive smooth muscle cell proliferation and thrombosis leading to vascular occlusion. Understanding the mechanisms of this process has made it possible to include strategies to limit vascular injury and reduce subsequent thrombotic and proliferating cellular responses.
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
2025701 tn?1328919633 This may be in response to increased usage by the body, or an acquired platelet dysfunction. The identification of an occasional giant platelet on an otherwise normal blood smear is common, and does not reflect an underlying problem.
Avatar m tn Has anyone heard of MS causing a drop in platelet count? I have many symptoms of MS, but have had clean brain and cervical MRI's as well as normal emg and nerve conduction study. However, my platelets have been a little low on three blood tests 135,127, and 141.
1363339 tn?1338771053 Hi Horselip Sex hormone. ……I do not want a period either I've had enough of those, thankfully :) :) :) :) …. I understand. Good to hear about revisit the issue :) . Hopefully they can find some options suitable for you. Medically, is it okay if you’re not having the period. Endo said, I must have the period to avoid cancer risks GH……That does help my cholesterol oddly enough. That’s good, I’m happy for you :) Yes, I heard a lot that GH is good for us.
Avatar n tn For 18K... Affirmative for treatment if platelet count is between 10,000 and 20,000/mL and coagulation abnormalities exist or there are extensive petechiae or ecchymoses.... During neurosurgical and ophthamologic procedures some authorities recommend that the platelet count be maintained between 70,000 and 100,000/mL. I assume platelet count and coagulation studies was performed prior to the transfusion to guide subsequent therapy.
Avatar m tn 1st dose reduction of PegIntron is to 1 mcg/kg/week, 2nd dose reduction (if needed) of PegIntron is to 0.5 mcg/kg/week. If platelets go down below 25,000 the standard protocol says to stop all treatment. There is a way around the platelet issue if the center will do it. That is platelet transfusions and/or Promacta/Eltrombopag a drug that can raise platelets. But these are temporary fixes so they would be need to be done (transfusions) and taken (Promacta) over length of treatment.
1964979 tn?1325538025 Oh well.. made it through two weeks of the full 180 dose of Pegasys.. but my latest CBC yesterday showed a platelet count in the 30's so the doctor is having me cut the dosage in half for the interferon... Get my 4 week VL test done on Jan. 25th, so hopefully will get good news and be able to continue.. otherwise, it is off the train and back to the station to wait for the all oral treatments to hit.. It is in the Lord's hands now..
Avatar f tn What are the Thyroid tests you recommend? I have always come back fine on blood test for Thyroid, but I know you talk about a Thyroid test that is usually not included. I am due for my bloodwork again soon, and want to be sure to get the right test. Thank you so much for any info you can give me....
