Ddavp for platelet dysfunction

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp for platelet dysfunction

ddavp

Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
Avatar f tn You should be in the hands of a pediatric endocrinologist for her care, let them decide about the ddavp, this may be masking or exacerbating some of her symptoms.
Avatar f tn I would not do anything and would not worry about this unless there were other indications that you had platelet dysfunction (abnormal bleeding, low platelet count, low blood counts, etc). This is a common issue that arises when patients get the lab reports that show a "L" or "H" highlighted by the computers next to results that are actually not concerning and normal findings. Hope that provides some reassurance.
Avatar f tn You bet ! It seems like PATHOGENS are the culprit in many neurodegenerative and even autoimmune diseases.
Avatar f tn The common (spontaneous atherosclerosis) pathophysiologic mechanisms, namely, endothelial injury with early platelet involvement and subsequent progressive smooth muscle cell proliferation and thrombosis leading to vascular occlusion. Understanding the mechanisms of this process has made it possible to include strategies to limit vascular injury and reduce subsequent thrombotic and proliferating cellular responses.
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
2025701 tn?1328919633 This may be in response to increased usage by the body, or an acquired platelet dysfunction. The identification of an occasional giant platelet on an otherwise normal blood smear is common, and does not reflect an underlying problem.
Avatar n tn The product labels for both formulations of peginterferon recommend dose reductions for patients with platelet counts between 50,000 and 80,000 cells/µL and discontinuation of therapy if platelet counts fall below 25,000-50,000 cells/µL. Treatment with peginterferon has been shown to reduce platelet counts by up to 33%.
Avatar m tn Has anyone heard of MS causing a drop in platelet count? I have many symptoms of MS, but have had clean brain and cervical MRI's as well as normal emg and nerve conduction study. However, my platelets have been a little low on three blood tests 135,127, and 141.
Avatar f tn What are the Thyroid tests you recommend? I have always come back fine on blood test for Thyroid, but I know you talk about a Thyroid test that is usually not included. I am due for my bloodwork again soon, and want to be sure to get the right test. Thank you so much for any info you can give me....
Avatar f tn Glad to hear it worked for you. Please share, how did it work for you? You certainly don't believe you are HepC free b/c you used Milk Thistle? If it made you feel better and that's all you wanted then you accomplished what you wanted to, and good for you. It has been know to lower VL, but it does nothing as far as eliminating the virus from your system. I would like to get rid of my HepC and MT isn't gonna accomplishment that for me. Good luck with your herbal experience.
478228 tn?1215161484 Besides the reduction in number, other studies suggest functional platelet defects. This platelet dysfunction is probably both intrinsic to the platelets and secondary to soluble plasma factors. It reflects not only a decrease in aggregability, but also an activation of the intrinsic inhibitory pathways. The net effect, finally, is a decreased platelet function in the various types of chronic liver diseases and cirrhosis.
Avatar n tn There is about 2-3 days before the platelet count starts to rise after discontinuing (ant-platelet, anti-clotting) medication. To start plavix or ASA before stopping Hepirin, could have substantially decreased the platelet count and put your mother at a high risk of a hemorhage. Its a judgment by your doctor that weighs the risk/ benefit of treatment. Sorry to hear of your loss and my condolences.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
1216899 tn?1288570325 ve already had one surgery for a CSF leak and am going back to California in May for another round of testing to see if it has come back and they can pinpoint it- I dunno if you have this though just throwing it out at you since you are in the process of being diagnosed. Hope you feel better.
Avatar m tn How long did it take for your diabetes insipidus to resolve? how long did it take for your doctor to prescribe testosterone? My endo refuses to prescribed the testosterone as he says that should recover by itself, however I am exhausted all day. I am on ddavp (sublingual pill) and 10mg of prednisone.
Avatar f tn Just the thought of being tested for those things was a little nerve racking. Thanks for the clarification on the platelet count too. I was iron anemic years ago and the doctor really hasn't said too much about the platelet count but I did notice that when I saw the MS Specialist he made note of it. Thanks again!!!
Avatar m tn It should not be used by anyone who may want to get on a transplant list. As drug or alcohol abuse are conditions for not listing patients for liver transplantation. From the Mayo Clinic "Major categories of pain medications, including over-the-counter analgesics (OTCAs) such as acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibitors, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, and opioids, are largely metabolized by the liver.
1363339 tn?1338771053 I don’t take it regularly because I find it hard for me to balance out between hypo and hyper. I become tired with it. I always try to minimize stress as much as possible, laugh as much as possible, because I know stress make this disease worse and I’ve experienced it quite well if I got stressed out. Is it right that hormone insufficiencies can only be noticeable or come into effect sometime later.
186737 tn?1269884660 Supine BP is between 120/70 - 135/80. Standing BP may drop to 70/40. ~2 months ago she started DDAVP and Octreotide and those have helped her substantially, however, she still has a very low exercise tolerance, shortness of breath wiht only little exertion, and some syncope. Could she still have carcinoid tumors in spite of the negative octreotide scan and is there a better scanning technique than an octreotide scan for detecting carcinoid tumors?
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar f tn What is the lower limit for the platelet count to safely do a bx? I suppose it is different under certain circumstances, but I mean to just compare against a Fibrosure that indicates no cirrhosis although platelets have been in the 90s and 80's for many years.
Avatar m tn As far as platelet counts... This is from the PEGASYS (peginterferon alfa-2a) Package Insert - "Dose reduction to 90 µg PEGASYS is recommended if the platelet count is less than 50,000 cells/mm3. Cessation of therapy is recommended when platelet count is below 25,000 cells/mm3." Ultimately it is really up to your treating doctor and what they are comfortable with.
29837 tn?1414534648 When the body is subjected to an injury and starts to bleed, colorless sticky substances called platelets form clots to stop the blood. If you have a low platelet count, it is harder for the blood to form clots. There are several foods that you can eat that can help you increase the platelet count in your blood, but you should always see you physician for monitoring of the condition. Good choices include salmon, tuna, flax seed oil and free-range eggs.
