Ddavp before surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp before surgery

ddavp

Avatar f tn Hi again, It may be that you do not need the DDAVP any more? Yes, it is more common for people to have it temporarily after a surgery or TBI and then it clears up. But then there are folks who do have it forever. I was in the hospital a few years ago for a surgery. I was catheterized and my urine went into a container. The nurses were shocked when they saw that i urinated ~ 3 gallons a day!!! needless to say DDAVP was ordered.
Avatar f tn I had my surgery in Aug 2001, and for the first year or so the DDAVP was good, then slowly it began to change. I started with the nazal spray however, that was like sucking gasoline up my nose, then I switched to the pill form. I have asked if it is possible to have this healed, and they tell me no, however, I pray that it will cease. Anyway I hope to talk again with you, it is just wonderful to finally speak to someone who id DI, I just can't tell you.
1216899 tn?1288570325 Hey- When your sodium is maxed out you are dehydrated. And yes could be that if you got dehydrated enough you could pass out. If it happens again you might want to get yourself to the hospital and they can check your electrolyte levels as this might be a game of dare that you would want to mess with. That could a symptom of low aldosterone/adrenal issues. OR even Diabetes Insipidus. Are you a pituitary or Adrenal patient?
Avatar m tn Hiya, I read your post. My surgery recovery took about 3 months. But the hormone part can take a year, and will require periodic changes for the rest of your life. I also have DI. I hate it!!! At the beginning you have to be very careful about using too much DDAVP. I've seen many doctors since my surgery, and they do not understand the extreme thirst that we go through. They also tend to over medicate us. So make sure that you take periods in between doses to get rid of extra fluids.
Avatar m tn One of the ways we would try to determine this was by prescribing DDAVP (if there were not any issues that would prevent using it). Desmopressin (trade names: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men).
Avatar n tn Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP. Years ago before she was diagnosed with diabetes she took DDAVP for a week of camp and it worked great. Thank you!
Avatar f tn The tumor was germinoma. Yes u are right it was the optic nerve. I don't know for sure if my pituitary gland still functions I take ddavp, I also took growth hormones in the past and I take l cortef. But I'm not sure. Thanks so much I have a docs visit soon and Ill ask him more about my tumor. Thanks again for your help. And about the scar tissue he wants another MRI and then him and other docs will decide to do a biopsy or something els.
Avatar f tn 30pm, however she rarely falls asleep before 11pm, then wakes up with no problems in the morning. She also itches incessantly (she will go through four different outfits in the morning trying to find something that does not itch). She is tall and skinny, 42.5 inches, and 52 lbs. She eats ALOT! she will have 4 packets of oatmeal and a glass of milk in the am. Another possible symptom is nocturnal enuresis. She is on DDAVP at night .05 mg X approx. 4 months.
Avatar f tn There was a small piece of the tumor left behind but six months ago I had a MRI and it had not grown since the MRI that was done post surgery. I am currently on 50 mcg levothyroxine and my endo told me all my other tests (six months ago also) were normal. Since surgery I have been extremely thirsty and urinating a lot. Originally I was on DDAVP nasal spray to control it but the doctors told me I don't need it anymore.
Avatar f tn however, lately I have to urinate constantly and have headaches a lot like I did b4 surgery. I do remember my endo telling me something about frequent urination and giving me shots in the hospital because of frequent trips to the potty. I don't remember why or what caused the urination and am tired of getting up every hour at night to pee. should I be concerned?
16141151 tn?1445607578 I know people that after entire pituitary removal (not a common surgery, although sadly I have seen it done by inexperienced surgeons done at the first surgery sadly), and they will get the function back after years when the hypothalamus kicks in. So, yes it happens, it may be transient and so keep and eye out and meds handy (and a water bottle). It may not though. I just developed cancer so I am not answering as often as I did, many appointments and scans, surgery to come.
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar f tn So I have to take DDAVP most of the time now. Before I used to be able to get away with only taking it at night. Maybe this is part of what is going on. I don't really have answer per se, but just an idea on why it might fluctuate more if u have it.
Avatar n tn He also mentioned that she might have a missing hormone but more tests need too be done. In the meantime he has prescribed DDAVP, saying that this might help and if it does she will need this drug support for her entire life.
Avatar f tn I had a hemotologist rule out vonwildebrands - but they decided that I had something, but they did not know what it was - so they called it idiopathic thromocytopathy (not thrombocytopenia, which is the normal disease) as my platelets just do not clump. Before surgery I get DDAVP to clump. I know of another Cushing's person with periods that are horrid - she gets them twice a month. An idea... And you need not have every symptom to have Cushing's either. I also had low iron.
Avatar n tn SO MAYBE MY HORMONES ARE TRYING TO BALANCE OUT. BUT I DID HAVE THIS SYMPTOM BEFORE SURGERY AT TIMES BUT NOW AFTER SURGERY IT IS WORSE. THANKS.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
1546654 tn?1294411026 Hi, I have a metastatic breast cancer tumor on my pituitary gland. I had surgery that removed 1/4th in Aug, then 5 cyberknife treatments in Sept...1st MRI after in Nov showed a little shrinkage, and my vision bluriness went away....but recently my vision has gotten blurry again and my headaches/nausea is slowly returning....Anyone else have something like this??? I just started chemo again. Doxil once every 3 weeks... I am 34yrs old, single mom from LI, NY....
Avatar f tn I have used a nasal spray (DDAVP) for three weeks, but the bleeding did not stop. I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days?
596605 tn?1369946627 Hi- I have been experiencing almost constant head pain in the forehead region. I also have body pains which have been diagnosed as Fibromyagia Syndrome. I had surgery to remove a Rathke's Cleft Cyst in Jan 2006. I became Panhypopit after this. On all Pituitary hormones: rGH, Cortisol, Thyroid, DDAVP, and HRT. RE the head pain, I think that I may have Trigeminal Nerve damage that is causing this pain, as it started happening after my surgery. What type of doctor do I see?
Avatar m tn ive never went this much during the night..i had to go get on some meds called ddavp to slow it down so i can sleep..
14511252 tn?1434923746 Has anyone smoked weed before surgery or did everyone stop if you did? Dont judge it really helps with the pain.
410234 tn?1206634191 I know how hard of a decision this is. I did have surgery when I was trying to get pregnant. The first surgery (not first surgery but first for trying to get pregnant) did not work but the second surgery I had (about 8 months later) I did get pregnant 3 months after that with clomid. I now have a baby but it was a very difficult pregnancy. So I do believe the surgery helps. Actually I got pregnant after the first surgery also but I did miscarry (2nd miscarriage).
Avatar f tn bottle of Gatorade and drink it all the day before surgery. Has anyone else done this and I am hoping I will not get sick. Thought I was reading the instructions wrong at first, but , yep for sure, its the whole Miralax Jar.
