Ddavp cardiac surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp cardiac surgery

ddavp

Avatar f tn I had my surgery in Aug 2001, and for the first year or so the DDAVP was good, then slowly it began to change. I started with the nazal spray however, that was like sucking gasoline up my nose, then I switched to the pill form. I have asked if it is possible to have this healed, and they tell me no, however, I pray that it will cease. Anyway I hope to talk again with you, it is just wonderful to finally speak to someone who id DI, I just can't tell you.
Avatar f tn Hi again, It may be that you do not need the DDAVP any more? Yes, it is more common for people to have it temporarily after a surgery or TBI and then it clears up. But then there are folks who do have it forever. I was in the hospital a few years ago for a surgery. I was catheterized and my urine went into a container. The nurses were shocked when they saw that i urinated ~ 3 gallons a day!!! needless to say DDAVP was ordered.
Avatar m tn Hiya, I read your post. My surgery recovery took about 3 months. But the hormone part can take a year, and will require periodic changes for the rest of your life. I also have DI. I hate it!!! At the beginning you have to be very careful about using too much DDAVP. I've seen many doctors since my surgery, and they do not understand the extreme thirst that we go through. They also tend to over medicate us. So make sure that you take periods in between doses to get rid of extra fluids.
1216899 tn?1288570325 Hey- When your sodium is maxed out you are dehydrated. And yes could be that if you got dehydrated enough you could pass out. If it happens again you might want to get yourself to the hospital and they can check your electrolyte levels as this might be a game of dare that you would want to mess with. That could a symptom of low aldosterone/adrenal issues. OR even Diabetes Insipidus. Are you a pituitary or Adrenal patient?
Avatar m tn One of the ways we would try to determine this was by prescribing DDAVP (if there were not any issues that would prevent using it). Desmopressin (trade names: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men).
Avatar f tn The tumor was germinoma. Yes u are right it was the optic nerve. I don't know for sure if my pituitary gland still functions I take ddavp, I also took growth hormones in the past and I take l cortef. But I'm not sure. Thanks so much I have a docs visit soon and Ill ask him more about my tumor. Thanks again for your help. And about the scar tissue he wants another MRI and then him and other docs will decide to do a biopsy or something els.
Avatar f tn however, lately I have to urinate constantly and have headaches a lot like I did b4 surgery. I do remember my endo telling me something about frequent urination and giving me shots in the hospital because of frequent trips to the potty. I don't remember why or what caused the urination and am tired of getting up every hour at night to pee. should I be concerned?
16141151 tn?1445607578 I know people that after entire pituitary removal (not a common surgery, although sadly I have seen it done by inexperienced surgeons done at the first surgery sadly), and they will get the function back after years when the hypothalamus kicks in. So, yes it happens, it may be transient and so keep and eye out and meds handy (and a water bottle). It may not though. I just developed cancer so I am not answering as often as I did, many appointments and scans, surgery to come.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
Avatar f tn she will have 4 packets of oatmeal and a glass of milk in the am. Another possible symptom is nocturnal enuresis. She is on DDAVP at night .05 mg X approx. 4 months. If I remember to wake her up around 2am she may be dry, before the DDAVP she was going through 2 goodnights diapers a night... if I didn't change it midway she and the bed would be completely soaked. Anyway, her Thyroid was hyperactive, and she is allergic to Milk and Eggs (she did have hives when we were at the Dr).
Avatar f tn There was a small piece of the tumor left behind but six months ago I had a MRI and it had not grown since the MRI that was done post surgery. I am currently on 50 mcg levothyroxine and my endo told me all my other tests (six months ago also) were normal. Since surgery I have been extremely thirsty and urinating a lot. Originally I was on DDAVP nasal spray to control it but the doctors told me I don't need it anymore.
Avatar m tn nah...he has only low b.p before surgery.....he dont have diabetes or any other B.P...so what should we do now...? i am really frighetened bcoz he may get heart failure :'(..

Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar m tn ve had 6 thus far through my life), there is already a cardiac surgery team waiting in a reserved surgery suite JUST IN CASE I NEEDED BYPASS SURGERY. My cardiologists have always told me that they have the surgery team and surgery suite reserved JUST in case I would need bypass surgery...they don't do the catheterization and then hunt for a cardiac surgeon and their team (remember a cardiac surgeon has their own team of cardiac nurses they work with all the time...
Avatar n tn and the past three years my migraines have been mimicking angina attacks... many doctors do not believe this but I have kept records and when I have a cardiac migraine... I do not have a head migraine... and vica versa... they are becoming more severe and more debilitating... Is there anyone out there that has been having these same symptoms...
Avatar f tn It's unclear to me if you're presently experiencing arrhythmia. In the "olden days", pre-admission testing would include an EKG, and blood work. I don't know what they're doing now. My last surgery was 10 years ago for a hernia when I just hopped up on the table, and I was out. There wasn't any kind of PAT involved. If you're experiencing abnormal heart rhythm, it would be a good idea to talk with your physician first.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.

1528307 tn?1336000554 s I should be experiencing less symptoms since my panel has improved since surgery. The only problem I am still having seems to be cardiac. And I am feeling it now.

Avatar f tn I have used a nasal spray (DDAVP) for three weeks, but the bleeding did not stop. I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days?
