Ddavp prior to surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp prior to surgery

ddavp

Avatar f tn You could chart your input/output for a while once off of the DDAVP to show your endo just to make sure. If are able to sleep through the night without medication that is a good sign too. I do find that if I overuse the DDAVP I retain fluid and this could causes my electrolytes to dilute (have labs). Also I gain water weight. When I first started using DDAVP ~9 years ago i had to weigh myself every day and measure my input and urine output to get the "hang" of it.
Avatar m tn Hiya, I read your post. My surgery recovery took about 3 months. But the hormone part can take a year, and will require periodic changes for the rest of your life. I also have DI. I hate it!!! At the beginning you have to be very careful about using too much DDAVP. I've seen many doctors since my surgery, and they do not understand the extreme thirst that we go through. They also tend to over medicate us. So make sure that you take periods in between doses to get rid of extra fluids.
16141151 tn?1445607578 I am still feeling a bit frustrated and surprised by the fact that I have all these deficiencies, despite the fact that my surgeon was very confident prior to the surgery that I would be cured. He is now changing his stats, stating there was a 30% chance I would end up with hormone deficiencies (which is insanely high if it is true, based on other research I have done on the risks). Prior to the surgery, he told me there was a less than 10 % chance of hormone issues after....
Avatar f tn i was given an option to donate blood to myself prior to surgery an (autologous) blood donation. would it be alright to do that?? please help. thank you.
Avatar f tn The side effects associated with the medications are only slightly better than not treating, and I would opt for surgery but apparently it is very difficult to find a surgeon able to operate on a 4 yo. For now, we are trying the medication and will follow the nodule with US monitoring. My main questions for now are: Is the sleepiness normal? and Are there any good surgeons for such young patients? Thank you, Sheri!
Avatar m tn One of the ways we would try to determine this was by prescribing DDAVP (if there were not any issues that would prevent using it). Desmopressin (trade names: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men).
Avatar n tn s cleft cyst. It caused my Prolactin to go up to almost 200 eek. I opted for surgery and had it in Jan 2006. I had a LOT of similar symptoms. Pre-surgery I had low growth hormone, thyroid, and sex hormones Cons: I lost all my pituitary function, I had a CSF leak for 2 1/2 years (I may still even have it) and I have constant headaches and am in pain manegement for that. So now I must take all the hormones: Thyroid, cortisol, DDAVP, and Growth Hormone.
Avatar n tn Hi just wondering can answer this question. This past month a small nodule was found and then biopsied. It tested positive for papillary malignacy and Hurthles cell. My TSH level is 10.7 and my dr put me on .50 levo. Meant with surgeon who had to review my case with ans endo. The endo said I needed to up my levo to.75 for at least one week before scheduleling surgery. I haven't talked to any Drs other than surgeon on the phone.
Avatar f tn It may be as simple as taking a little pill every night to help you to hold onto fluids.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately the pre-surgery promised benefits sounded very enticing, and no major negative risks were presented, though I asked, (barring the actual surgery). I did a little checking and spoke to a patient who had the Restor lenses done the month prior to me, he was totally pleased. At that time I could not find anything substantial to be contrary to what I was told, even asked to please not “sugar coat it”, but was assured I would see better and likely not need glasses.
1546654 tn?1294411026 As your pituitary changes, you may have to take other hormones like DDAVP so if you find that you are thirsty or if you are tired, make sure you report that to the doctor.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
Avatar n tn What medications are usually prescribed prior to cataract surgery? My doctor gave me prescriptions for Zymar (0.3%), to be used 4X daily for 3 days AND Xibrom (0.09%), 2 X daily for 3 days prior to surgery. After looking on the RXlist medication information site, it says that Xibrom should be used only 24 hours prior to cataract surgery. Any longer could cause corneal adverse events......what kind of events?
596605 tn?1369946627 In January 2006, I had an adenoma removed transphenoidally from my pituitary gland. Prior to surgery it was thought that the adenoma was a prolactinoma. Presurgery, my prolactin level hovered around 200. The pathology report indicated that the growth was a Rathke's Cleft cyst. So it was theorized that my prolactin level was elevated due to mass effect. After surgery my prolactin level went down quite a bit, but it never normalized. It is still elevated and runs around 60-70 nowadays.
1363339 tn?1338771053 At the earlier stage of my treatment, the ddavp that I was taking need to be kept in the fridge. Yeah… it’s a hassle. Fortunately, several years later, I got ddavp fridge-free, new formula maybe :) . It’s a great relief indeed. Hopefully they can find better formula for GH too. …..I cured my period thing - got everything cut out. But I am still on those hormones. So sorry to hear this Rumpled. I wonder how it feels living w/o it. DI….they tell me it is temporary... *right*.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 26 and I had a non-secreting 3cm by 2cm macro adenoma removed from my pituitary about two years ago. Since then I have had regular MRI scans and Endo appointments. There was a small piece of the tumor left behind but six months ago I had a MRI and it had not grown since the MRI that was done post surgery. I am currently on 50 mcg levothyroxine and my endo told me all my other tests (six months ago also) were normal. Since surgery I have been extremely thirsty and urinating a lot.
Avatar m tn ive never went this much during the night..i had to go get on some meds called ddavp to slow it down so i can sleep..
Avatar n tn I am desperate in seeking help prior to surgery. I have all images of the MRI and can email. It is believe I have a torn labrum and fractured glenoid by one doctor. Another thinks that only the labrum MIGHT be torn.
Avatar f tn As another casualty of Restor multifocals, after 3 months of quality of life altering effects because all trade-offs were never disclosed to me prior to surgery, I have scheduled lens exchange. I’d just like to have an unbiased double check that I’m trying to cover all the bases with this decision made, as there is no other option to eliminate the aberrations, diminished quality of vision and halos.
Avatar m tn I guess your vet is suggesting using the DDAVP (Desmopressin) inhaler as eyedrops. From what I can tell, this stuff runs about $78 a bottle (less if you get more than one bottle). I am kind of confused as to why you are being prescribed DAVPP for nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, because that's usually prescribed for CENTRAL Diabetes Insipidus, caused when the pituitary gland doesn't secrete enough ADH.
Avatar f tn It is not uncommon for these glands to be disturbed during thyroid surgery. This can cause your calcium levels to drop. If you experience tingling in your fingers, lips, or hands, this is the first sign that you need massive dosages of calcium. When your calcium level get too low this this called hypocalciumia. I had this after my TT two years ago. I was given massive dosages of calcium through pills and IV's for 5 days and finally was able to get discharged from the hospital.
