Ddavp factor viii

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp factor viii

Avatar n tn What exactly does it mean to have 'mildly elevated factor VIII'? I've been on coumadin for a blood clot (that is now gone) and according to my doctor I will have to remain on coumadin forever. He admits to having no idea what is causing the blood clots but seems to have closed the door on finding out. Could the elevated factor VIII mean anything else? I tested negative for all the other 'factors' and the other usual suspects.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 years old. My factor VIII (clotting factor) levels came back at 214%. I guess normal range is 50%-150%. My gynecologist referred me to a hematologist. I am young and have always been relatively in shape, so what would these levels be caused by? Does this necessarily mean I have a clotting problem? Also what should I expect at my appointment?
Avatar f tn Based on my symptoms and family history, my mom and I are suspecting I have endometriosis. My blood tests came back to be high in factor VIII (a clotting factor). I was referred by my gyno to a hematologist to access if I have some kind of clotting disorder. Has this ever happened to anyone before or after being diagnosed with endometriosis, or is this likely another problem? Does anyone know if endometriosis and clotting problems correlated?
Avatar f tn Well, patients with high factor VIII are at increased risk of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. There is no treatment as such except to take low dose aspirin or any anticoagulant (blood thinners). However yes, the dose needs to be adjusted to maintain the INR. Deep vein thrombosis not responding to conventional treatment is treated by sclerosing therapies, stripping, and surgical interventions like a bypass. You need to consult a vascular specialist regarding this. Take care!
Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
Avatar m tn One of the ways we would try to determine this was by prescribing DDAVP (if there were not any issues that would prevent using it). Desmopressin (trade names: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men).
Avatar f tn The matter of no thyroid is not a factor with DI. DI is pituitary or hypothalmic or as you said, kidney. Your doc ran ADH and it is low - so it looks like your source is pituitary. We do have someone here who has it - Horselip - and there are medications to take to help keep in under control. Your doc may still run those tests - and should run other pituitary tests to see if you have other pituitary issues.
Avatar n tn Deficiencies of certain proteins, increased homocystine, factor VIII and/or fibrin in blood, abnormal fibrinolytic system are some examples of hypercoaguable clotting disorders which have a genetic origin. On the other hand these clotting disorders can be acquired in certain disease states like cancer (so this needs to be re-checked), obesity, lupus, antiphospolipid syndrome, nephrotic syndrome, heart disease, polycythemia vera, side effects of medications, and IBS—to name a few.

Avatar f tn My husband thinks I'm nuts for worrying about this, but I can't donate blood any more. I just stop bleeding. I used to bruise if you look at me sideways, but that stopped 6 or 7 years ago...about the same time I stopped being able to donate blood. During a trip to the ER a few years ago, they took blood 3x, each time it clotted before it got to the lab.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
Avatar f tn My Endo wants me to do a biopsy, but I am concerned as I have Von Willenbrands Factor VIII deficiency, and had a bleeding problem in July from a deep tooth scaling (which probably was made worse by going to a dental surgeoun after who probably dug deeper) and I ended up on Amacar for 10 days and two rounds of Desmopressin IVs. In the past, I have had a couple of needle biopsies in the breast with no problems. I will contact my hemotologist, but was also looking for another opinion.

Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
