Diflucan in early pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Diflucan in early pregnancy

diflucan

1472764 tn?1287588186 There have been a few reports of multiple, serious birth defects in infants whose mothers took Diflucan in early pregnancy (usually high doses for an extended period of time). Because the birth defects were distinctive and similar in these cases, it is assumed that the medication probably caused the defects. However, statistics generally do indicate that short-term use (such as the single dose used to treat vaginal yeast infections) does not seem to cause such problems.
Avatar f tn I took diflucan a couple times with my first pregnancy but it was later in pregnancy. I got a yeast infection with my second pregnancy very early on. They didnt want me to talk diflucan that early. I am the same way as u. Nothing works but diflucan for me. so i know how u feel.
Avatar f tn I need some help. I am 20 years old and have been on birth control since October 2008. I have been on the generic of Ortho-tri cyclen- low. I have switched to non generic because the generic lost its patent. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex, but he always pulls out and I have never missed a pill. I have always started on Wednesday, and randomly the last two months I have started Thursdays. This month I had a yeast infection and took prescription Diflucan.
525485 tn?1314361301 In my experience, the over the counter creams do not work for me but I am extremely sensitive to medications. I alwasy call my doctor and she'll call in a script for me. But, I think Diflucan is the only oral medication (at least it's the only oral medication I've ever heard of for yeast infections).
557911 tn?1225980644 The blood work was negative for pregnancy but it was early so I still could be pregnant. She called in a prescription for the yeast infection and it is only one pill. Can I assume it is safe to take the pill? I am afraid she is assuming I'm not pregnant so may not have worried about it, and she isnt the smartest doctor to be honest. I have an appointment with a new doc Monday, should I wait and check with them or just wait for the results from that appointment to come back next week?
Avatar n tn Monistat 7 is the safest thing to use during pregnancy. I used it in early pregnancy with my 3 girls and there were healthy. if it was me don't use that prescription, just the Monistat. My doctor that I had, now I'm having my 5th baby and they say Monistat is the safest to use and you can even use the cheapest brand, it's all the same.
290018 tn?1240365868 I was told at my app last week that diflucan isnt ok in early preg.
1299678 tn?1327315957 I am aware that thrush is very common in pregnancy, however Im struggling with it really bad. I do all the right things, natural yoghurt, cotton underwear, avoid bathing for too long and only wash that area with Aqueous cream. Also had cream prescribed by doctor to help and nothing is working. Im going to go back to Doc and see if there's anything else they can do but just wondered if anyone else suffered or is suffering with this during pregnancy and if they found anything that helped??
Avatar n tn I've taken 2 Diflucan tablets one one friday and one on Saturday. Monday i started bleeding my period is not due for another week.
Avatar m tn The baby is literally a bundle of cells at this point. I was also worried about meds I had taken before I knew I was pregnant and my doctor told me just that, and not to worry.
Avatar n tn I'm 25 weeks pregnant my doctor prescribed me Metronidazole Vaginal Gel for a bacteria that I have, has anyone else taken this during a pregnancy ? Avatar f tn I went to the doctor ten days ago with horrible nausea & after confirming the pregnancy (9 weeks now) I was put on a dissolving tablet so I could eat & drink again, yay, but he also said I had an infection probably a uti from being so dehydrated, so I was also prescribed an antibiotic. Today was the last day of it & it burns more now when I pee then it did before!
Avatar n tn Thanks for using the forum. It is recommend that you check with your practitioner before starting any medication during your pregnancy. Additionally, the majority of women who self diagnose yeast infections either misdiagnose, or mistreat. For the health of both you and your baby, I recommend that you speak with your doctor before you take any medication.
548642 tn?1266179652 omg i have a yeast infection and its so bothersome!!
Avatar f tn Hi there. Your doctor can call in a prescription for diflucan which clears it up right away. my doctor does that without even seeing you. It's just one pill and works great. Probiotic yogurt such as activia is the yogurt to eat. It helps restore the ph of your vagina.
Avatar f tn I am almost on my last week of pregnancy and I may have a yeast infection, would taking monistat 7 now be unsafe since I'm so close to delivery? Or can my doctor prescribe me with some kind of medication?
Avatar n tn My dr said it's ok for me to use monistat for my yeast infection, I have tried everything else. Just wondering if anyone else has used it during pregnancy. I'm a bit of a worrier.
Avatar f tn Need to rant lol I'm so frustrated! In the beginning of my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with bv, and was treated for it...and ever since I got treated I've gotten yeast infections every few weeks...today I was diagnosed with chronic yeast and put on a new med to help it...if that doesnt work, she's going to put me on diflucan for a couple weeks...its been so rough! This is my 4th one in 20 weeks and I'm so sick of them...
Avatar f tn Your normal bacterial flora in your intestines are getting unbalanced and/or you are losing some organisms due to the antibiotics. You should start taking probiotics. This will help get your normal bacteria back. But I would ask Metametrix if it will cause any problems with their test just to be sure. Also, you can take an oral antifungal but I wouldn't recommend it because they have bad side effects.
Avatar f tn Yes it's safe after 12 weeks. I am on round 2 of my dose. I am a rare case and I get VERY bad yeast and BV infections which cause bladder retention and usually have to get catherized for a week. I've had a cath 4 times this pregnancy and i'm only 16 weeks! I just took diflucan again yesterday and have another dose I will be taking in 3-5 days if the symptoms are still here. When I'm not pregnant I use oil of oregano orally for yeast.

Avatar f tn Anyway, I have a tingling, itchy, and burning sensation in the vagina at this time. I took a diflucan yeast infection pill and the symptoms still haven’t cleared. No bumps or blisters or anything of that nature. The guy I had unprotected sex with was rubbing his penis in my vulva area which I thought was odd because no man has done that before.
1573600 tn?1301974932 Hello Dr. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I developed intense itchiness on the left side of my groin. The first time it appeared was four months ago. It went away for a while then came back early this month. The intense itchiness in the groin continued and now it's on both sides of my groin. Initially it started as a raised wrinkled bump. It is the same color as the skin around it. There are no blisters or open sores. The area becomes inflamed and thick when scratched.
