Avatar f tn Dear lina, I am not a psychologist, just a person who has experienced depression. I'm sorry you are feeling this way. The best thing you can do is talk about what you are feeling with someone, ideally a psychologist or other mental health professional. They can advise you as to how to proceed with talk therapy or possibly even antidepressant medication. There are sometimes low-cost options available since (I am assuming) you do not have health insurance.
Avatar f tn I have had treatment resistant depression for years and last June was implanted with the Vagal Nerve Stimulator Device, which is used to treat depression, since FDA approval approx 2 years ago. It had been used to treat Epilepsy for years. Until recently, Medicare covered the cost of the procedure (approx $35,000). It has now been denied, but some insurance companies do cover it. I am being treated by a Psychiatrist, who has over 40 patients with this device.
Avatar m tn According to studies I've read, it is supposed to be the most suitable for clinical depression while on treatment. I don't know about off treatment. Here is a link for the comparison of the two: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15160261 Escitalopram versus citalopram: the surprising role of the R-enantiomer. Avatar f tn I don't know why the doctors would be refusing Hepatitis C treatment for people with Depression. Interferon can cause Depression but you won't be using Interferon. There are Interferon free treatments available. Even with Interferon treatments, the doctors treated people with Depression unless they were very unstable or suicidal. I have a long history of Depression and I treated in 2011-2012 for 48 weeks with Interferon, Ribavirin, and Incivek. I did fine.
354706 tn?1279474395 My mum’s OVCA treatment went so smooth that it is almost unbelievable. Just consider this – stage 4, abdominal filled with cancer spreading to liver, colon, diaphragm and spleen. As there is no hope of optimal debulking, the doctor tried chemo first. After 2 chemo, CA125 dropped from 165 to 15. CT scan revealed that most tumors were gone/shrunk. During operation after 3 chemo, very little signs of chemo and an optimal debulking.
Avatar f tn Will it one day only be used in the short term as solely a detox tool, or will it also continue to be prescribed as a maintenance treatment? Supporters of maintenance treatment will state that the manageability of an addict’s life improves tremendously with Suboxone maintenance, and there is an abundance of research to back this up. Nonetheless, I believe that an individual on maintenance treatment is not experiencing the full range of emotions, the good and the bad.
Avatar m tn Starting late elementary school and middle school, I've lived in a state of depression. In middle-school I got a psychiatrist (an adult psychiatrist). He was very good and after a couple of meetings he prescribed me with medication for what he called a chemical imbalance in my brain that caused depression. The meds worked and I definitely wasn't as sad most of the time. So for seven years I've taken meds. More recently I've started to feel, emotionless and even angry (on the inside).
4592241 tn?1359816738 She is terrified of my depression. I have been hospitalized for depression several times. I just want to be drug free. I dont have the money for counseling at this time but have had counseling before. It really just made me even more aware of how messed up my emotions are and wanting to just be normal. My father committed suicide when I was very young ( thats where the PTSD was from)...it seems like the doctors just keep giving me pills. I know there is no real cure for depression or addiction.

Avatar n tn - Current work situation, can you afford to take time off work if things do not go as smooth as you want - Insurance, how much will your insurance cover the treatment. - Your family situation, your treatment will affect people around you. I do not know what kind of medical advances we will have in 5-10 years, but I heard that 3a genotype is one of the easiest to cure, so I would do it while you are young.
Avatar f tn In my 3rd month of treatment I started crying over nothing. I had no reason but I cried anyway. When I made a special visit to the Dr., He nodded his head and said, " This is to be expected. It is not you, it is the Ribavirin. One of the major side effects of this treatment is depression." So, he put me on Lexapro and then he upped the dose to 20 mg. because I was still depressed. I remain on it and he says I should be on it until the 6 month post time is up.
Avatar n tn Back when I started last year, I remember that the drug company had an assistance program for patient's who couldn't afford the cost of the meds for combo therapy. I need to find that program if it still exists. Does anyone have the number to that program? I believe it was through scherring plough, its for the Peg-intron combo therapy, not Pegasys. Please let me asap as this is a desperate situation. Thank you.
1323278 tn?1298126088 than the interferons they use for MS, I had terrible side effects; flu-like symptoms, insomnia, depression. I barely made it through the full treatment of four months. I believe that the choice of disease modifying drug is dependent on the sub-type of MS you are dx'd with.
Avatar n tn I AM BEGINNING TREATMENT IN SEPT. I KEEP READING THAT SOME OF YOU AHD TREATMENT THAT DID NOT WORK AND ARE DOING IT AGAIN. IS THAT RIGHT AND IF IT DOES NOT WORK THE FIRST TIME DOES IT OCCASIONALLY WORK THE NEXT? I AM WORRIED.
537639 tn?1232057169 Interferon alpha is given by injection just under the skin and has a number of side effects, including flu-like symptoms, headaches, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, depression, and thinning of hair. Treatment with interferon alpha may also interfere with the production of white blood cells and platelets. Ribavirin is a capsule taken twice daily, and the major side effect is severe anemia (low red blood cells). Ribavirin also causes birth defects.
Avatar m tn he started with the worst situation for interferon, such high hbvdna and hbsag have no hope on interferon mono anyway addition of alinia reversed anything i think that as shown on hcv trials alinia is able to restore interferon response and improve it, this is something we do need on hbv treatments because hbv can stop both our body natural interferon and the injected interferon and make it totally useless
Avatar n tn Find a good Psychotherapist that you can visit once a week to learn and gain the coaping skills you need to break past this barier or depression. If after several weeks, you still show no signs of improvement, then an antidepressant medication can also be added to help treatment. I think in your case that a dual approach such as this will be nessasary to break this cycle of Depression. You will need to do this in order to get your life back.
Avatar n tn Dear Betty, Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses. Fortunately with proper treatment your symptoms may be reduced or completely alleviated. You may contact a local hospital or local health department and inquire about available community mental health services. You may learn how to qualify for free services. Best Wishes, HFHS M.D.
Avatar n tn Zyprexa and Zoloft may both cause decreased sex drive. In most cases if the decreased sexual drive is due to depression, than when depression improves with treatment than the sexual desire should improve. Sometimes it doesn't and different treatment strategies should be offered. There are medications which may improve your sex drive, such as Wellbutrin. It is best to discuss your concerns with a psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn I feel like I have some form or kind of depression obviously in my life, everyone does. I just want some help advice on what to do about it, or even I should. I find I keep going through these continuous cycles almost daily where I just get angry or irritated at people I love and care about to the point I want to hurt them, usually over stupid, petty things.
Avatar m tn *** I took Suboxone for about a year and a half, I noticed it helped me a great deal with my level of depression. I stayed on the Suboxone for that reason. I have had shock treatment, every antidepressant made, and 20 yrs of therapy and seeing doctors once a month. Depression wouldnt get better. I now stay on a dose of 12mg a day for over a year now. I find the dose of 12mg a day, no longer helps my depression. I have to take larger doses to ease my depression at all.
372876 tn?1215132892 chronic insomnia aching muscles (particularly legs) weak legs tingling feeling over most of my body, which varies in intensity unpleasant feeling welling up from abdomen no enjoyment eating favourite foods, drinking tea (I used to be a tea addict), talking to people I really like, etc. And, if they have, what did they do/are they doing about it? My QOL is really low in my present state. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Given the procedures that have been done and the medical situation, depression is certainly a likely possibility. Regarding the treatment of depression and chronic illness, I am not aware of treating this differently than depression alone. You mentioned various medications that have been tried - of those, only Prozac is an appropriate antidepressant.
667078 tn?1316004535 Having the majority of folks say nice things but zeroing on those who said the negative things. Having the jauniced glasses of depression viewing the world. Attended a wonderful lunch with the Regional Director of U.S. DHHS today. Saw all kinds of people who encouraged me to get back to blogging. These folks are all professionals so It was good to know I am known and I make an impact. I had lost confidence in myself and stopped blogging. I thought no one wanted to hear what I had to say.
Avatar m tn Another paper published in 2011 stated “Effective detection and treatment of inadequate vitamin D levels in persons with depression and other mental disorders may be an easy and cost-effective therapy which could improve patients’ long-term health outcomes as well as their quality of life.” If you are going to use a vitamin D supplement, you also need to take vitamin K2 and magnesium, as these nutrients work together. I would have my levels checked.
Avatar f tn I am receiving acupuncture for the withdrawal, as well as Bach Flower Remedies, and a homeopathic treatment for the depression. I think getting off of Tramadol is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I think of you Suedeva, I hope your pain is being managed. Keep going and get off this stuff, there has to be a better way, my friend!
3199802 tn?1362254159 Medicine does not address the root cause of the depression, but will alleviate the anxiety from the depression for a while. Getting to the cause of the depression and addressing that is of the most importance. Think about it this way. You've got a splinter in the palm of your hand and it is painful. It continues to cause you pain, but you keep putting hydrogen peroxide on it and covering it with a band aide. As time goes by, it continues to hurt....
