Common Questions and Answers about Depression symptoms after pregnancy

Avatar f tn Hey ladies. Need some support here, after an uneventful start to the pregnancy I suddenly just got bombshelled around 8 weeks. I have hypermesis gravidarum and not being able to go out. Or eat anything cooked or with a smell is destroying me mentally. I am so tired. I can barely get out of bed. I'm a skinny little thing but my bump is huge and I'm only 11 weeks along. I would kill for someone to tell me its going to get better soon because I feel like I can't keep going.

Avatar f tn I have depression, anxiety problems and ptsd all in one, I haven't had any symptoms with my pregnancy and this is my 3rd pregnancy. I'm married and the only support I have is my husband and that is one of the main factors of my depression. I have insurance and they cover all but $20. There are risk factors the baby can have being on anti depression medications, they can have cleft palate and I know that for a fact as my friend just have birth and get daughter has it due to the medication.

480331 tn?1310407129 I never dealt with it personally, but I know a lot of women who have and it can be devastating. I wish more doctors would start discussing the signs and symptoms early in pregnancy so that women know what to look for.
Avatar n tn Becoming a mother is life altering and can cause even more stress and possible depression after birth. You need to think about how this baby and how he/she will fit into your life, if at all. I wish you luck.
Avatar n tn I dont know what all of the effects are under any circumstances when depression is associated in pregnancy, however there are many things that could happen. Baby resenting you once he/she is born or you resenting that baby. How do you feel about the pregnancy so far? My cousin is going through a depression as well. When she had her 5 year old daughter she had post partum but they only found out about a year ago and now she is pregnant as well and trying to deal with it..
Avatar n tn We miscarried this past week at 7wks. It was our first pregnancy after years of infertility & finally giving up. I am crushed. The only thing I can say is "this really sucks".Not eloquent, but it is how I feel. I was doing OK/coping until today. But each day I had doctor appts or people with me & today DH went to work early and I was all alone. I am in more pain, physically & emotionally, then I have been all week. I (we) SO very much want a family.
Avatar f tn It is quite common for women who have symptoms of depression before the pregnancy to continue to have them during the pregnancy, and to have a "flare" post partum. It sounds to me like your OB has been doing her reading, and is up to date with her knowledge. If you were my patient, I would also try a taper, but would have a low threshhold to re-start the medication if necessary at any point during the pregnancy.
Avatar n tn My delivery was normal. I had prolonged bleeding after the birth and had to take methergine to make it stop. Once the bleeding stopped I began to feel pain in my legs. At first I thought it was blood clots, but I had pain in both legs. Shortly after the pain began, my legs started to twitch. The twitching has spread throughout my body, I can even feel my ovaries twitch. I have also had a lot of abdominal pain, cramping, spotting, intense fatigue, back pain, a frequent need to defecate....
Avatar f tn I have had those symptoms before, your body craves what it wants during pregnancy. I'm sure you will be fine but the tiredness is from being pregnant. I could sleep for hours and wake up and go back to sleep so no worries there. You def need a car for emergencies and find you a salty tasting fruit they are out there just google it.
Avatar n tn Implantation bleeding can be one of the earliest pregnancy symptoms. About 6-12 days after conception, the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall. Some women will experience spotting as well as some cramping. Other Explanations: Actual menstruation, altered menstruation, changes in birth control pill, infection, or abrasion from intercourse. Delay/Difference in Menstruation: A delayed or missed menstruation is the most common pregnancy symptom leading a woman to test for pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Yes there are potential concerns such as post partum depression and also the general concerns of the symptoms of what medication is not treating returning in genera when medication is not taken. Also pregnancy can temporarily worsen symptoms of bipolar. However all of this should be discussed with a doctor such as an OB-GYN.
Avatar n tn my period finally became normal andfor aybe the past four months i've been feeling sick i've taken pregnancy tests all came up negative.
Avatar n tn There's actually not a great deal of difference in early pregnancy except that the symptoms of pms usually go away when AF arrives or just before/after. Whereas pregnancy symptoms not only continue but increase in intensity. Hope this helps and good luck with finding out!
Avatar m tn postpartum depression Postpartum depression is also referred to as ‘baby blues’. It includes feelings of acute depression, irritation, dullness, anger and even thoughts about suicide. New mothers suffering from postpartum depression might also feel a complete lethargy and disinterest in the baby as well. These symptoms are accompanied by disturbances in sleep and diet patterns. http://www.postpartumdepressiontreatment.
Avatar f tn I also feel I'll never be myself anymore, or live for myself anymore. Is it possible to have a life and to keep fit after having a child? Am I ruining my life by having a kid?
Avatar n tn It is so weird, because I was just discussing this topic with friends yesterday and I feel like I may have a slight case. My son is 7 months old. I just have days when all I want to do is cry. At first I thought it may be the fact that I dont get to spend as much time with him during the day as I would like, but Stacie, do you mind telling me how you were diagnosed? If this is what is causing my "bad days" I would like to take the steps necessary to control it. Thanks.
Avatar f tn How many of you ladies have/had postpartum depression and did you take medication for it or try and "ride-it-out"? What were your symptoms and how long did they last? Ive definitely been having bouts of depression and feelings of being overwhelmed - yesterday I was in Walmart and called hubby to ask about an item and he asked me to get something else and I suddenly felt overwhelmed and like I was going to cry! LOL.
Avatar f tn that was harder but other than heartburn not too bad.. now at 40 it's a bigger difference having more pregnancy symptoms then ever and just over all harder to carry but with my 3 year old I am a much more patient Mom than at 19.
Avatar n tn There are meds that are safe to taken after about 20-25 weeks of pregnancy. I was on Wellbutrin during my pregnancy and both mommy and daughter are fine.
Avatar n tn Even though everyone around me warns me that early pregnancy depression is very common, and that they got over it and so can I. Thank you all. I will keep you posted on what I decide. I am taking really good care of myself and next week i have my first doctor's appointment. So while it is in me, I will embrace it and care for it with all of me despite my worries. thanks again.
Avatar n tn I had my tubes tied 11 years ago. I have had symptoms of pregnancy for about a week and a half. Bloating, constipation, throwing up, tender breasts, etc. I had a blood test done two days ago that came back negative, but my period isn't due for another 5 days. My last period came two weeks early and wasn't very heavy. How often do tubes come untied? And could I be pregnant even though the blood test came back negative?
Avatar f tn I guess my question is, how many of you had this many pregnancy symptoms after miscarriage and this strong? I feel like they are getting worse rather than better!?!? And it's adding a bit of insult to injury. Those of you that did, how long did they last? I do have a call to my midwife, but I'm waiting for a call back. Any help would be much appreicated.
Avatar n tn This was not a planned pregnancy, there are few birth control options after a stroke! This pregnancy has been fine except my blood pressure is slightly elevated. I am really nervous though, glad to know there are other women to talk to.
Avatar n tn is it normal to get a negative pregnancy test 24 hours after embryo transfer?
Avatar n tn I am looking for more info on pregnancy after an endometrial ablation. I had an ablation in May 2002. January 2003 I was not feeling well and went to the family doctor. She thought it may be an ectopic pregnancy since I was told I was sterile. I had an ultrasound to discover it was an interuterine pregnancy and I was about 9 weeks. I am now 17 weeks and for the past month trying to decide to terminate or continue.
