Avatar n tn In this disorder, the sufferer may have several periods of hypomanic symptoms and depressive symptoms, which are less severe and fulminat that in Bipolar II. Genetics play a major role in the etiology of Bipolar. Research, specifically family studies, have repeatedly shown that first degree relatives (i.e: parents and siblings) with bipolar disorder are eight to eighteen times more likely to have the disorder when compared to those without a family history.

Avatar n tn In response to Mr. Durand, I, on the other hand, take Depakote to control my anger. Without it, coupled with Prozac, I am a miserable, rotten b****. Though, I certainly understand that everyone's body chemistry is different. I lash out at everyone around me and experience explosions of anger that I can't keep inside. Rage spews out of me like venom. So for the gentleman that responded terribly to Depakote, there is hope.
1130576 tn?1260154370 Sorry but that means teenagers are less commonly depressed than adults. And faces are certainly the first indicator of depression in any person. The other things you mention are useful too but sleeping in for one is a common trait of every teenager I have ever known and depression did not automatically follow as a result of that. The most telling stat on depression is the number of women who suffer compared to men.

Avatar f tn If so, I would recommend that you see either a physiatrist (specializes in rehab medicine), a neurologist, or an orthopedist who treats adults with cp. If you have difficulty finding someone who specializes in cp, call a teaching hospital, talk with someone in a pediatric orthopedic office and ask if any of their doctors follow patients into adulthood. For example, our pedi ortho sees patients up to about age 30. If they don't, ask who in the community sees this group of patients.
Avatar n tn Hi, and welcome to the forum. Both of what was said above is what I understand. MS can cause what appears to be a rapid cycling of emotions, but it is more an emotional lability or instability. I have never read that Bipolar is particularly common in MS. However, Depression is very common. What may have happened is that you were already bipolar,, but mostly depressed, and the treament for the depression "unmasked" the manic or "up" phase.
Avatar n tn Lexapro is a well-tolerated medicine for the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults. In clinical studies, many patients treated with Lexapro began to feel better within 1 or 2 weeks, although the full effect may take 4 to 6 weeks. Hence, DO NOT stop taking it if you start feeling better otherwise your symptoms could return or worsen.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your responses, especially with regard to the Effexor. My son has a difficult time focusing in many areas of day-to-day activities, and we certainly do not need a medication to inhibit the ability to work on improving in that area.
Avatar n tn This relationship was filled with verbal abuse and constant mood swings from my very unstable EX-girlfriend (no wonder I self-medicaed with pot).. Currently my symptoms include anxiety/depression, irritability, irrational thoughts, and the occasional headache. The ups and downs have really begun to wear on me and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever return to my normal self before the pot and the emotional roller coaster of a relationship.

Avatar m tn Anxiety and Depression Chronic gut disorders are associated with higher rates of anxiety and depression. A well-publicized study in mice suggested a possible role for probiotics in reducing anxiety associated with gut inflammation (Bercik, Neurogatroenterol Motil 2011). Mice in the study had a chemically-induced inflammation of their gut and exhibited anxiety-like behavior. Giving 1 billion cells of Bifidobacterium longum NCC3001 for 1 week normalized their behavior.

Avatar n tn I've been to a series of doctors over the past years attempting to find relief from what I've been told is depression. It runs in our family, my father has been terribly effected and I'm certain the same is happening to me. The symptoms are extreme lack of energy, motivation, interest in life, focus, etc... In a nutshell, I'm "slipping away" and feel as though I'm becoming a shell of a person.
Avatar n tn One of the common side effects of antidepressants, more common in young people but also in adults, are violent and suicidal thoughts. Sometimes a particular antidepressant can be very stimulating as well for some people, and Prozac is one known for that. That can increase your anxiety rather than help tamp it down. Much of this typically happens during the early phase of taking the drug and can stop over time, but it can also just be that this is not the proper medication for you.

Avatar n tn For some people, the symptom is more a sense of being irritable and snappish, and in other people it is unexplained depression or dissatisfaction with life in general. In my case, that depression lifts as soon as my sugars return to normal. I have a couple of suggestions that help me remain cheery: 1. You might want to calibrate your monitor to make sure that it is reading your levels accurately. Best to be sure about that. 2.
Avatar n tn Since I have been on heavy Wellbutrin doses for years and some lithium I assumed at first they meant just my hands. No adults ever commented about it and I didn't think much about it because I didn't notice anything. A few years ago my left hand developed a twitching, especially in the thumb and ring finger. My other hand started months after. Putting weight on my arms causes various tremors now in my arms and hands.
