Depo provera testosterone

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera testosterone

Avatar n tn No form of birthcontrol has worked for me to regulate my periods, and the side effects from these pills were awful. I am currently on Depo provera, and am having a hard time. I have been bleeding for several weeks, rather than not. It may be that our body due to the hormone irregularities is not affected as it should be by these drugs. So far I have had only one treatment work, but that was to stop my periods completly.
Avatar n tn -Abnormal Weight gain (8 months ago) -Stretch marks/underarms (8 months ago) -Severe abdominal cramping-- awaken in the middle of the night (7 months ago) -Received 1st Depo Provera Shot (4 months ago) -1st month on shot, no bleeding present, only vaginal dryness (4 months ago) -Heavy/deep bright red colored stretch marks on abdomen and hips.
Avatar f tn Because of factor v and needing to avoid surgery if possible, she gave me a shot of Depo Provera. 3 days ago, we learned that the left cyst had shrunk considerably and the right cyst was gone. I gladly took my second shot of Depo and went on my way. I have had an ongoing migraine since the day after the shot (2 days) and began researching this drug. Everything I read says that I should not be getting this shot.
5856747 tn?1403352282 When I was first reading through her question I was thinking of all sorts of fancy footwork like hormone assay and possibly testosterone replacement therapy for women. But on more sober reflection the answer was far more pedestrian. Four small children, under the age of seven, no matter how lovely they may be, is draining enough God knows. Now add onto that a full time, and I would guess a fairly onerous job and you are approaching human limitations.
Avatar f tn I started birth control at 13 to help with the cysts, I was on the pill for a few years then started the depo provera shot around 18. That worked for awhile. I thought I out grew the pcos like my doctors promised would happen. Come to find out the shot merely masked the disease. I am now 100% off birth control. I take 100mg of progesterone everyday to try and help. However, blood work indicated that I'm unusual.
Avatar f tn i stopped taking depo-provera August 2007 and i'm still trying to get pregnant now just over 2 years, my partner has had tests done and has been told he has slow motility. i'm going to get my testosterone and thyroid checked as everything else seems clear with myself. i am only 24 years old and always thought i would never have a problem trying to conceive, how wrong was i.
Avatar f tn Depending upon what your risk for blood clots is, you might be able to use depo-Provera to suppress the ovaries and the testosterone. A really great medication for excess testosterone is Spironolactone, but you must be on some kind of birth control to take it, as it can cause birth defects. It also sounds like you may need a workup for all those UTIs! After all those antibiotics, its no wonder that you have a yeast infection!
Avatar f tn You can control that with birthconrtol and other meds. My last doc put me on depo provera- which come to find out is BAD for PCOS :( I don't want to be on bcp- but don't want any more kids either) They also put me on a diaretic to lower my testosterone level was 96 needs to be below 35. I am loosing my hair rapidly!!! So I recommend getting a GTT-glucose intolerence and a testosterone test done.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo Provera (the shot) until Nov 04, when I was suppose to go for my next one. But it was screwing my body up I opted for BCP's and took them until Aug 05 when Hubby and I decided TTC. Well I never had a period after stopping BCP's so I was given Provera in Dec 05 and got a period...well in Jan same thing no period so I took Provera again...and got a period. The end of Feb I found out I was pregnant. Many women take provera and then clomid.
Avatar m tn I've been doing some reading about androgen deprivation therapy, since no Drs will give me a prescription for a serious antiandrogen (like Depo Provera, used for chemical castrations outside the US), but I can't find anything reliable on HOW to go about it. So my question is, do any of you have any experience with any non-perscription methods for completely killing the male libido?
478429 tn?1265247987 His solution was to put me on Depo Provera...for NINE months I bled every single day. After I went off that, my mom took me to another GYN. His diagnosis was a fallopian tube infection. Antibiotics and BCP's. No help obviously. I started just going to my family doctor where he believed me, but couldn't' do any surgery b/c he was only a family practitioner. We went through numerous types of BCP's. NOTHING helped. At 18, I finally found a GYN who believed me.
Avatar m tn But I will say that it is best not to make major decisions during a state of depression. The drug given to sexual offenders is called Depo-Provera. It is actually a birth-control drug that decreases the amount of testosterone in the body. Apparently the reduction in libido disappears when the drug is stopped, so you shouldn't have any permanent damage from it. You will have to speak with your doctor about the possibility of using this medication.
Avatar n tn Sx on 5/17 to remove endometrioma and endo tissue from rupture. Put on Depo-Provera, worked for about a month, then started spotting again. Gyn doubled dosage of Depo, continued spotting, and was an evil, irritable you-know-what (was actually worse on oral BC... can't deal w/the synthetics) Gyn finally ran blood work (CBC, Chem panel, Thyroid, Testosterone, Estrogen, etc), apparently all normal. She decided my problem was that I now didn't have enough estrogen, so she added 0.
Avatar n tn I do not know what the solution for this is but I do know of women who've recovered their sex drives after Depo Provera and other birth control damage. Not very many women know about this or have tried to reverse the situation as far as I know, because there is practically no awareness. I have not tried either because I am dealing w/a different problem, long-term loss of sex drive caused by anti-depressants.
Avatar f tn all forms i.e...the patch,nuva-ring,depo-provera, and just about every pill you can think of. Not only did they not work but they caused the worst side effects and I am not allergic to anything. I have been controlling my diet for some time now watching my carb intake and was on glucophage for a while with no results. I have irregular periods sometimes a year on and a year off and extremely they are usually heavy and painful.
Avatar f tn Sometimes I will have 30ish day cycles, but most times I will miss my period for 4-8 months at a time. I was on depo provera shot for three years, followed by two years of being on the pill. I stopped all contraception 19 months ago, thinking we would see what happened. Nothing yet, now I am worried there is something wrong with me because of these very long cycles, lack of periods and the fact that I have never been regular except when I was on the pill (which was a 'fake' period).
1344197 tn?1392822771 It is produced primarily in the ovaries with some made from testosterone in the brain, breast, and muscle. E3, Estriol; A weak estrogen made by the placenta during pregnancy. There is only one progestin, Progesterone, which is converted to other progestins. The only FDA-approved estrogen bioidentical hormone is estradiol. Perimenopausal and postmenopausal women do not need the hormones estrone and estriol.
671153 tn?1237226392 Stil, the dr wants me to get cleared before putting me on depo-provera. Then, once I'm cleared, I have to get the vile from the pharmacy and wait til my period starts. Then I get to call in and get a quickie appointment. 24 hours after the shot I'll be baby-free for three months. <3 <3 No forgetting to take pills or anything like that. Which is great, because I can't even remember to take allergy meds until my eyes get itchy.
Avatar f tn I'm actually not sure that I'm ovulating at all. Before we started ttc, I went on the depo-provera injection for one year. It stopped my periods (which were regular before that), and I've never gotten them back. I have had a period with provera, and I have had a couple on my own (but they're short - about 3 days). I chart my bbt and it is all over the place. I've been pregnant once, so I have obviously ovulated at least once.

Avatar n tn Girls, if you don't mind me asking what is MTHFR?

1134544 tn?1264685102 i should also mention that i was on the pill for about 2-3 years, and had 1 shot of depo provera. HOWEVER i have not taken any form of birth control in any form ( including condoms) for the past 2 years.(about 2-3 months off being a full 2 years). how is it that i had an egtopic and a misscarriage while i was still on birthcontrol or just coming off it, but now that im completly off it i cant seem to conceive. someone please help us. please offer some advice, anything..
Avatar n tn The only drug that I am aware of that that actually has this effect is Depo-provera, a drug used to inhibit fertility in women. Interestingly, there are many many documented side-effects of Depo-provera (just take a look at their web-site for possible complcations), yet it is approved by the FDA. As I said, the presence of HCG in the human body is used as an INDICATOR for pregnancy. HCG has been found in EVERY human tissue, also in males and non pregnant females. 2.
Avatar m tn With all due respect Msniki412, Metformin"glucophage" is not always the answer and nor does it always help. The question is why did an otherwise healthy women get pcos? and why if she already eats healthy and exercizes normally should she need a medication like glucophage for border line insuline resistance/insuline resistance aka diabetes? why would a healthy woman who like i said before eats well, excersizes routinely be subject to pcos in the first place?
Avatar n tn By October '09, after several different tests (pelvic ultrasound and blood tests for thyroid and testosterone, etc.), I was seen by an endocrinologist who started me on 1000 mg of metformin. I developed some consistent light spotting, but no regular monthly cycle. This February, after doing some research, I purchased and started taking vitex (chasteberry) and a prenatal multivitamin. In March my doc upped my metformin dosage to 2000 mg per day (my testosterone was nearly in the normal range).
196469 tn?1365391575 But, progesterone cannot be patented and so the company that makes Premarin came up with a Progestin, as Katie pointed out, and they called it Provera (Depo Provera is a relative of this). The two drugs together, Premarin and Provera, Equal Prempro. It is now theorized that the Progestins are what helps create the big mess in the synthetic world of hormones. The snythetic estrogens are not great either ( I, like you, would only use a bio estrogen like Vivelle) but that Progestin is nasty.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera or Androcur will take your drive away, but be careful, the effects of chemical castration can be bad, depression, mood swings, heat flashes, etc. Women can have low estrogen too and i find its a better solution to bring the low partner up than to shut the high partner down...
