Depo provera vs the pill

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera vs the pill

Avatar f tn I don't know the actual percentages, but among people we counsel it seems to take much less time for women on the pill to start ovulating again and get pregnant vs ones using Depo-Provera. This is a generalization but I would say return to ovulation with using your typical birth control pill is from 1 - 3 months. With Depo it's more common to be between 3 - 18 months or longer.
192918 tn?1199454779 depo-provera, the mini-opill (which is basically justa daily dose of the medication in depo) and the extremely low dose of hormones in the Mirena IUD. I would double check with another doc and/or pharmacist before taking.
Avatar f tn I've switched to the pill now but just started but after I had my son i wanted to try Depo-provera I got the shot until my son was six months old and I think it may have had something to do with my mood I started feeling really sad all the time and started getting chest pains and bad headaches I went to the er twice with chest pains and they did a ct scan and ekg and said everything was fine both times and they did a scan on my head to check for tumors and they said everything was fine with that
Avatar n tn Its all in my midsection (like I have a flotation device around my waist) and in my upper arms. I was put on elavil years ago for my headaches and that combined with the depo provera birth control and zoloft who knows what has caused it although i have taken all of those drugs in the past with no problems. I had blood work done and there were no problems.
Avatar n tn After realizing it wasnt a good combination (something about the phentermine intensifying the effect of the SSRI) i asked him to change the anti depressant to buspar. He called me in buspar and cymbalta (which i had never heard of but have learned its supposedly the only antidepressant with no weight gain side effects?) soooooooooo......headaches still an issue........
Avatar n tn Had Laproscopic laser sugery and then went on the Pill. Had 2 children and after stopping the Pill started to get the occasional dizzyness, hot flashes, diarrhea and nausea before and during my periods. It wasn't every month until the last 3 months. I have started to see a pattern and I have missed work due to the dizzy and nausea episodes. My primary care dr says it could be due to hormones...

Avatar n tn On Monday and Tuesday, several people commented on the state of my eyes, especially the right one, which seemed to be in a worse condition. My eyelids were dry and painful to touch, especially in the corner and it was continuously weeping, until yesterday afternoon when it seemed to heal up to the point where it looked sore, but no longer felt it. And then today- my awful eyes are worse than ever. While my actual eyes are fine, my eyelids are large, puffy and as per usual- RED.
Avatar n tn I too noticed this sticky crown issue about a week ago. I am 26 and do not have any more stress in my life than usual. I am on the Depo-Provera shot for birth control and read that Depo-Ralovera (a very similar shot) can cause greasy hair. ( I wonder if I could have received the wrong shot when I was in about 2 weeks ago, the names are so similar.

Avatar f tn no one ever rx-ed me narcs for endo///surgery is the fix for that to remove it//not narcs and considering where endometriosis pain comes from it is not considered as a choice for pain relief for endometriosis by most physicians//depo provera..a drug that stops periods will also put endometriosis down cos it is caused by uterine bleeding DDD sux! I have completely lost 2 discs to this disease///and have plates in my neck...thing is how u r feeling right now sounds worse than the pain from DDD..
544292 tn?1268886268 Day 22 Cold Turkey Tramadol ... I woke up HAPPY. I used to wake up happy all the time, before the Tramadol. Waking up happy is good. Then I tried to move. I had to use my hands and arms to get up out of bed. My body has been pushed as far as it will go. So after trying all my best tricks (aminos, coffee, food, vitamins, water) I finally stopped the struggle and called in sick for work. Tomorrow will be a busier day anyhow.
Avatar f tn So there seems to be some lag or delay in symptom relief. If the Dr insists on the anti anxiety pill. I would ask the Dr. why it would make sense to put you on a new mind altering drug, when you KNOW that you have a Thyroid problem? Also consider that when previously you did not have these anxiety issues and they only seemed to start when you went Hypo. Isn't it worth a try to increase the Thyroid meds first. There is plenty of room left in the range. Just my non Dr.
Avatar n tn We chose the Provera. Last night I took the last pill... I was told to take it for 5 days and then I should start my period again. She said if this period lasts longer than 2 weeks to come back. I haven't started up again yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since my last dose. So hopefully this turns out well.
298579 tn?1192250448 The only thing I have seen that helps the pain is an herbal wrap that you heat up(you can get them @ walmart), and I lay that on my stomach. I have been on the depo shot for four years, I have asked if this is a contributing factor and have been told no. I have no kids. I hope someone comes up with an explanation, because I am too young to be giving up on my sex life!
Avatar m tn I think the title is "That's the way the world goes round" Since I have to use a post anyway, here is some of it for you...everyone else, fast forward. Some of it's too odd for here ;-) but fave vs. goes... "I was sittin' in the bathtub countin' my toes, when the radiator broke, the water all froze, I got stuck in the ice without any clothes, naked as the eyes of a clown..

280700 tn?1210287416 My last period was in April so my dr decided to put me on the BC pill for the month of Aug. I started taking the pill on the 10th of Aug and missed (pills) day 15 and 17. I had a dr. appt on the 17 and that when she prescribed me Clomid 50mg. Since going to the dr. I have been having break thru bleeding which hasnt stopped, which is probably from missing the 2 pills (what dr says). At first it was light spotting, now its heavier with cramping and blood clots. Dr.
Avatar n tn Depo isn't the monster that people make it out to be. It's a good option for some people so don't be afraid to look into it). The doctor I went to prefers to do the insertion on a patient who is on her period. But since I have been on Depo Provera I haven't had a period in about 22 months! Because I had previously had a vaginal delivery (my daughter is 16 years old now) the doc decided to give insertion a try without my period (this was last month). OMFG... OUCH! And I mean: OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn BUT BEFORE i had the IUD put in, i was on the Depo Provera... which is the shot form of birth control that lasts three months... i have had constant yeast and bacterial infections since i have been on the shot. Now i am on the IUD, and they both use the same hormones. this is just great (sarcastically speaking) to hear all of this about the IUD as well. i was really hoping after MANY (too many to count) years of dealing with the constant infections that my problems are not going to go away.
Avatar n tn He also gave me a prescription for a topical cream. I took the first pill, and applied the cream. The itching became 100 times worse. I kept putting on the cream until the itching became unbearable (2 days), and then I took my second Diflucan pill after three days. A few days later I got the results of my Herpes test and I am happy to say that it came back negative. And the best news is that my fissures are completely gone. I've had no signs of them reappearing. Back to normal and very happy!!
Avatar n tn It is an Emergency pill that I take ASAP. As soon as I feel the Migraine I pop the pill and about 45 minutes later it is gone. I have wasted 3 pills because I waited too long to take the Relpax. I think I will continue with what I am doing for now. Since I am at the MAX dose I will see how it goes for a while. Let me know if you have any feedback.
Avatar n tn I was on the shot & pill for 3 months lost more when i got the shot every 2 weeks but the office is far so i only got the shot when i went for the pills monthly however the nurse said to buy the b-12 drops , then i had a anurseym was hospitalized i want want to start back on the b-12 but am not sure any adivice will help chicago
Avatar n tn I have decided to use Depo Provera for the next year or so, to allow my body to heal completely, before we attempt at another pregnancy. Wish us luck!
Avatar n tn Only good things (swelling in joints went down, scratchy throat causing me to cough constantly went away). The only negative side affect I've read from the blogs are headaches for the first couple of days. and only 2 people mentioned headaches.
Avatar n tn I know for a fact it was IB b/c we were TTC and we hadn't BD'ed since before I had my supposed period till the time I took the hpt. I was also using OPK's and the only reason why I took a hpt was b/c the ovulation line wasn't getting any lighter or darker as the days passed, although I thought I was getting due to ovulate.
1294995 tn?1330666336 My parents can't make it, not sure why the county is putting the firework show on tonight vs Sunday. But it is all ok with me. I have faith, and I am praying for all of us!! Have a safe and happy weekend everyone!!
162948 tn?1205256292 I am not moving with him til my son gets out of school the end of May. I concieved both my kids on the pill and patch. So obviously i am fertile mertile. I got it put in at my 6 week checkup and bled for about a month. Have not bled at all since then. Everyonce in awhile a few drops when i wipe. I know your period is the lining in your uterus which the mirena keeps it thin so obviously keeps mine to nothing since i dont bleed.
