Depo provera for perimenopause

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera for perimenopause

Avatar f tn I was on Depo for about a year and my first period lasted about 10 days and then it stopped. My next period was light and only lasted 2 days and then I never had one again for the rest of that year. I went off of it and about a 6 weeks later I had a period that lasted for a about two months but then I went back to normal. I went back on the shot today while on my period, so I'm hoping that it will stop my periods again completely.
Avatar n tn We chose the Provera. Last night I took the last pill... I was told to take it for 5 days and then I should start my period again. She said if this period lasts longer than 2 weeks to come back. I haven't started up again yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since my last dose. So hopefully this turns out well.
Avatar f tn I did try several birth-control methods when I was in my 20s and 30s's such as Norplant, the pill and Depo Provera but I had many adverse reactions to them. Mainly and most bothersome..., my periods became reversed and I was on my period for three weeks and then off for one week. I haven't been given any info on the other options as to date.
377493 tn?1356505749 My entire adult life I have had a 28 day cycle...only ever altered during the few years I used Depo Provera as a method of birht control, and for the few months I was first off of it. Even after each D&C, with the exception of the first cycle, I was right back to normal. I have been using an ovulation kit for about 11 months or so, and would almost always get my LH surge on day 11 or 12, and if BFN, period on day 28. Last month I got a BFP on about CD 23 and by day 25 was in full flow.

As an example, EstroGel was one of the first bioidenticals in the world with use in France since 1974, FDA-approval in the U.S. in 2004, and now used in more than 70 countries. To better understand what is meant by Bioidentical Hormones, specifically estrogens and progestone, the following may be helpful.
Avatar n tn However, for those young girls having sex and not using any protection i would take a pregnancy test to be on the safe side and definitely think about getting on some form of birth control if you don't want to get pregnant. My youngest son is 7 and I have been on the Depo Provera injection off and on for 15 years with really no problems. I would look at some options.
Avatar n tn I've had 2 learn how to regulate my vaginas behavior. Condems realy leave a bad smell on my vagina after intercourse. During sex I hav no smell at all I mean water. Then later I will sweat a metalic oder. Bv was very hard to control but I found this homopathic treatment sort of like vitamins to keep ur vagina clean and ph balanced.
Avatar n tn I've been having heavy menstral bleeding for 2 months now. I'm working with an OBGYN and I'm going in for a pelvic ultrasound in a week but still had some questions. This began the same time I started tapering off Effexor medication. I had a complete blood count done and everything was fine but my iron was a low normal, so they recommended iron pills. I started taking them for a few weeks, they didn't seem to help so I stopped. I started taking them again today.
Avatar n tn In November I had the depo provera shot. I didn't have my period for 2 weeks and then it came and has not stopped. It's now 3 days until August. I have a doctor appt. for the 1st and that was the soonest I can be seen. I want it to go away. I'm scared it won't. I think I'm getting anemic and that might explain some of my severe exhaustion etc. But it's been 8monthes almost 9. Know one told me this was a possible side effect.
196469 tn?1365391575 But, progesterone cannot be patented and so the company that makes Premarin came up with a Progestin, as Katie pointed out, and they called it Provera (Depo Provera is a relative of this). The two drugs together, Premarin and Provera, Equal Prempro. It is now theorized that the Progestins are what helps create the big mess in the synthetic world of hormones. The snythetic estrogens are not great either ( I, like you, would only use a bio estrogen like Vivelle) but that Progestin is nasty.
Avatar n tn Hormonal treatment – Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs), also called birth control pills, as well as other hormonal treatments (patch, vaginal hormonal ring, Depo-provera, IUD and hormonal implants) are often prescribed because the hormones thin out the lining of the uterus which lessens the blood flow and cramping.
Avatar n tn I took a pregnancy test last Monday and it came back negative but I don't have no signs of being pregnant either. Should I want til it stops and hope for a period next month, take a pregnancy test, or go to the doctor. This has never happened before. I don't know what this is. Hope someone can tell me.
Avatar f tn I've switched to the pill now but just started but after I had my son i wanted to try Depo-provera I got the shot until my son was six months old and I think it may have had something to do with my mood I started feeling really sad all the time and started getting chest pains and bad headaches I went to the er twice with chest pains and they did a ct scan and ekg and said everything was fine both times and they did a scan on my head to check for tumors and they said everything was fine with that
298579 tn?1192250448 The only thing I have seen that helps the pain is an herbal wrap that you heat up(you can get them @ walmart), and I lay that on my stomach. I have been on the depo shot for four years, I have asked if this is a contributing factor and have been told no. I have no kids. I hope someone comes up with an explanation, because I am too young to be giving up on my sex life!
Avatar n tn BUT BEFORE i had the IUD put in, i was on the Depo Provera... which is the shot form of birth control that lasts three months... i have had constant yeast and bacterial infections since i have been on the shot. Now i am on the IUD, and they both use the same hormones. this is just great (sarcastically speaking) to hear all of this about the IUD as well. i was really hoping after MANY (too many to count) years of dealing with the constant infections that my problems are not going to go away.
Avatar n tn I have been TTC for 4 months (this is currently our 5th), DH is 30 and I'm 28. Have been off Depo Provera Shot for 14 months and been having irregular periods for 10 months now. My cycle length varies from 12 - 20 days. I'm currently sitting at CD22 with no period, no cramps, bloating, or any of the AF symptoms I'm used to. Have been using OPK because of the irregular cycle length & this month ovulated on CD5 while I was still spotting from AF!
Avatar f tn i was put on provera for 7 days to stop the bleeding, but after i finished taking the pill i started on my period again. this time "normal," no bizzare watery fluid. i am currently looking for a obygynee to see what this watery blood could have been, since i'd never had it before. I feel you guys! Best of luck to you, hopefully the dr i find can tell me something useful to bring back to you.
Avatar n tn I can only tell you from my experience that my reason for the med was for headaches but has helped ultimately with my temper....,weight and other things.I do have side effects.but heck to me they arnt worse then head aches.hope i helped a little ..
Avatar n tn No caffeine, nicotene or stress that i know of. I was wondering if anyone knows of a relation to pvc's and depo provera (progesterone).
Avatar n tn I've been on seasonal for 1 1/2yrs. It took a few months for my body to totally accept it. I kept having break through spotting. But since that stopped, everything has been great I've had no problems. You may just be experiencing the normal, 'get used to the pill' symptoms. Give it some time.
Avatar n tn I have been doing some internet browsing since I posted my question and it would seem that some women just don't have as much HCG as others in the beginning and therefore it takes longer for the tests to show up +. I was considering a blood test but my doctor has refused as I have no medical problems. So I guess we are going to have to play the waiting game! I am going to take a test next Wednesday. Keep me informed though!
Avatar n tn dose anyone no any thing about Depo-Provera aka the shot and what some woman can get with periods and if a dark brown with a little hint of orange dicharge is normal?
Avatar n tn you might try a douche?
Avatar n tn But as with anything dealing with medicine, nothing is 100% and the smart thing to do is to go in for an actual exam. That way, you'll know for certain. There are lots of reasons for a delayed period. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn found the malignant cyst). Off to care for my patient. Look for the posts and just print and study later...gosh, I sound like a teacher...
Avatar n tn Took beta blockers for a month, cleaned up my diet (I'd been drinking coffee/tea for a year), and amped up running. I'm off thebeta blockers now but still being plagued with these blasted palps. Lying down is the worst. I'm not stressed that I know of, but these palps have me extremely pissed off. Now I'm losing sleep over them. I'm not concerned about dying like I was in my early twenties. Just very upset.
Avatar n tn 29,2003 and Aug 31,2003, they all lasted for 5 days. I tracked my fertile days for three months and was sure that I ovulated on Nov 12,2003 I had all the ovulating symptoms. I also had unprotected sex on Nov 11,2003. I went to the doctor on Dec.1,2003 and they gave me both a urine and blood pregnancy test that came back negative. I've been having mild cramps from time to time but I really don't feel pregnant. My stomach is still flat and I always feel empty other than that I'm normal.
Avatar n tn She said she took SEVERAL HPT and 2 blood ALL NEGATIVE. Finally when her Doc gave her a RX for provera to start her period she was tested one more time 12/9 almost a month later she FINALLY GOT a positive blood test. Her Docs theory is she just ovulated VERY late in her cycle that month!!! How crazy is that!!? It took almost a WHOLE month for her to show positive for pregnant. I mean you are alittle further than a month though. Have you got an ultrasound?
Avatar n tn I have had this issue for years now, and I was also diagnosed with a mild form of Von Willebrand's Disease (VWD) when I was a child. I have been wondering if there is a connection, and I am going to make an appointment to see a hematologist. I too am worried about a general weakening of the venous walls, especially if it may cause an aneurism in the brain. I also have BP that tends to be on the low side. I will report back if I have any significant findings from the hematologist.
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
