Avatar n tn Hi andreaR - I was 26 went I went on Depo and I just turned 38. If you search 'depo' in this forum, you'll see my list of side effects. My period stopped almost immediately after I started depo and I certainly didn't miss it.
Avatar n tn I am 19 and was diagnosed with endometriosis September of last year I have been on Depo Provera since I was 14 because of heavy periods I read a posting on another forum about a woman that had a 19 year old that had been on Depo since she was 15 and now she has been told that her breasts are not growing because of the Depo shots is that possible please help me I am scared that this is happening to me please let me know anything.
Avatar n tn Well, here goes nothing. I have been on depo provera for over 8 years. I have signed up for a forum for people who are trying to concieve after depo and have had some great support. I have been reading alot your posts and replied to a few. I am told that it could take as long as 2 years before I can get pregnant. I don't think I have ovulated yet. Last shot was August 4, 2006. Usually you take the shots every 3 months since it is possible to get pg if it is taken too late.
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
Avatar n tn happyflower i feel your pain i had one baby and i went on depo............ my doctor failed to tell me about the side effects.............i took one shot last august and.... i haven't seen a period till this day............. now i'm married and i want another baby and it seems impossible.........i have gained over 50lbs and i have no sex drive.. what am i supposed to do know??
Avatar n tn Has anyone experienced any bad side effects from the hcg shots? I am administering them myself and just want to know what to look out for.
Avatar f tn Endometriosis has ruined my quality of life for 14 years now. I tried Lupron shots many years ago and it worked well on the pain but the side effects were unreal. I usually respond terribly to hormone treatments but I'm in such a terrible and desperate position right now that I just started taking the Depo provera shot. Last Tuesday to be exact. Still in excruciating pain and have searched the net high & low for days for the answer to this question.
1012558 tn?1250893022 Hello, Thanks for writing in this forum. It is good to know that most of the side effects that you had for the first time have disappeared by now with continuous use of Depo shots. But you see irregularity in menstrual periods and flow is an important side effect of Depo shots. For most women, periods become fewer and lighter. After one year, half of the women who use the birth control shot will stop having periods completely.
Avatar f tn I've been reading alot of different side effects from different people on the depo provera shot.. some that go from hair loss to joint pain, mood swings, water retention, WEIGHT GAIN ..and the list goes on and on.
Avatar n tn days when I can barely function and have also experienced symptoms of hypoglycemia and panic attacks and or crying jags for no reason. I have been reading a lot about the Depo side effects some women have had and they mirror mine. I've had a thyroid test and it was fine, so I don't think that I'm diabetic. I have been trying to eat well and clense with milk thistle to try to hasten the exit of the Depo.
Avatar f tn I assure you that there is no need to panic. Heavy and prolonged bleeding are common side effects of starting Depo shots and usually it takes 3 months for such menstrual irregularities to settle down.Depo shots are to be given every three months, so for the first shot this kind of menstrual irregularity can occur.
Avatar n tn Hi First, here is info on Depo: What "The Shot" Is and How It Works Depo-Provera is the brand name of a prescription method of reversible birth control. It is a hormone like progesterone, one of the hormones that regulates the menstrual cycle. It is called depot- medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). A shot of DMPA in the buttock or arm can prevent pregnancy for 12 weeks.
Avatar n tn Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills? What are the side effects? What are the benefits? Has FDA approved? Where i can search more about Yaz? Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy? Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills. is that true?
Avatar n tn The symptoms you're feeling are also side effects of the depo so they don't tell much of anything. Take a test with first morning urine. At this point it will be accurate.
Avatar f tn I wanted to hear about your experience with side effects, I was told that the hot flashes would be the worst, my doctor has already told me he's going to add on Northedrone which I'm currently on to help suppress constant bleeding. When I return from vacation is when I start the shot. My main concern is hair loss, I've read horror stories about people losing all their hair on Depo Lupron, or if becoming thinner.
Avatar n tn As long as you are on Depo, there is no amount of exercise, pill, weight loss shots, and caloric restriction that will help lose weight. Really. The hormones from the Depo put you in a permanent false state of pregnancy. This means you will hold water, fat, etc because your body has been given a hormone that kicks in to cause a primitive instinct to help the fetus survive, even though there is no fetus! It also changes your body chemistry.
1160836 tn?1332333769 My doctor thought it was enviormental (exercise, stress...etc) as I just started to go do body pump right around that time. Every cycle before that was 30-31 days to the day!! So we will see.....
Avatar n tn I have some questions about Clomid. What are the side-effects? What is the risk of multiple births, compared to the normal occurrence? (My mom is a twin so I have a greater chance of having twins regardless.) I was looking at my cycle lengths tonight and noticed they've been screwy since my first loss. I seem to have had a few cases of breakthrough bleeding, i.e. periods that came at weird times and only lasted 1 day with no cramps... so this could mean I'm not ovulating.
Avatar n tn (not this one) Okay, now, my concern is the effcts after STOPPING yasmin. I understand that all bc pills are different and so are we women as far as side effects go. I have read postings about women who stopped taking yasmin and have experienced the following: - anxiety, panic attacks, heart palpitations and fluttering - depression - excessive weight gain - hair loss *I already have a prob. with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, so I am currently on medication.
Avatar n tn i had side effects from the shot and i could not be on it. because of bleeding and cramping real bad. the only thing that i can tell you is i would not recommend staying on it. once your months are up on the shot go on a different birth control method. it sounds like what i went threw and yes it messes with everything in your life.. bleeding 24/7 tell me is that what sounds like fun. NO. i went on Yaz the pill and it worked out great for me.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo provera for 3 years. I was looking at the side effects to the depo shot online a few days ago - one of the side effects is paralysis. However, I cannot find any stories on how this paralysis is manifested. Does the depo shot cause nerve damage, and how does it go about it?
312323 tn?1193300534 Hi my name is Roxann and this is my story. I hope I can find a lawer or someone else with the same symptoms so that I know im not crazy.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar n tn Didn't know it was a shot which may be enough to deter me from taking it. Now you mention that the side effects and I'm wondering if I should just continue taking the pill and take my chances. My husband and I are probably going to try to get pregnant within 6-9 months, so I am trying to do a cost/benefit analysis here. I really don't want to take anything that may make my life a living hell again. Headaches-I get bad ones anyway!
Avatar m tn In August of 2010 I took the Depo Provera shot and it really messed up my hormones. I have hypothyroidism, high prolactin levels and PCOS. My doctor has decided to put me on Metformin to treat the PCOS because the Synthroid doesn't seem to be helping my weight complaints much at all. I'm 125 pounds now and no matter how healthy I eat and how much I work out, I can't lose weight.
Avatar n tn There have been a lot of discussions on this forum about Depo and it's horrible side effects. You can probably check the archives if you are interested. Just a comment about getting blood work- that is certainly a good first step, but irregular hormones are only 1 of many potential fertilty problems. There is A LOT that goes into diagnosing fertility problems. The downside is that most REs won't see you until you have been trying for a year. It's a long time to wait, I know.
Avatar f tn Ok about 2 weeks ago I was taking Ortho Novum consistently but the side effects were too great for me to deal with. See, all last year I was on the shot, and did not get my period again until 6/2007. I got the shot about 10/06. My gyno recommended Ortho to get my period back on track, instead it gave me headaches and 2 periods a month. 2 weeks ago I stopped taking ortho and used condoms. I got my period Monday last week and it ended about Thursday or Friday.
Avatar n tn Here is some info that I found for you.
Avatar n tn I should add that I'm currently on depo-provera for birth control and 225mg of effexor for depression.
