Depo provera low

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera low

Avatar f tn Hi, I've been on depo provera for a about three years. I'm usually extremely careful and I usually always use condoms. The other day my boyfriend and I decided not to, at the spur-of-the-moment. I wonder, should I be safe to not use them? I mean, I really don't want to get pregnant, but the odds are so low, that I should be safe, right?
Avatar n tn The only problem is that when i take a pregnancy test they all come up negative. I was wondering could the low levels of HCG be a side effect of DEPO-PROVERA, and that's why the test keep coming up negative? Also, could this mean that my baby isn't growing at the rate it should be ? What problems can this cause? What types of birth effects can occur? Or could this mean that there is something wrong with me?
Avatar f tn i was on the depo provera twice last year, after the second shot i got chest pains and heart pulputations,i went to docs who rushed me to hospital, all my tests came back fine other than a stressed heart, they sent me home with no answers, now 10 months after my last shot iv only just got my period back but its coming every 8 days and iv still got the chest pains and heart pulputations and im getting sick of it, just wondering how long does it realy take to get fully out of system???
Avatar n tn The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Goodman, I wonder if you have any information about how Depo-Provera can change the symptoms of ovarian cancer v. ovarian cysts? I have been on Depo-Provera for two years and it seems that it would mask all the symptoms that are most likely to identify a cyst vs. a tumour. Do you know anything about how the two would look different in the presence of Depo-Provera?
Avatar n tn I had been on the Depo Provera shot for about 12 months. My last one was in February. I stopped having a period by my second dose. For various reasons, I had decided not to continue with the shots. However, I still have not had a period and I am having tender breasts, cramps, bloating etc a couple of times a month, as if I am going to get a period, but it never comes. My "PMS" symptoms seem worse than they ever did before Depo or while on it.
Avatar n tn I am in a group where all the women are trying to conceive after the depo provera. Many have been trying to conceive for years, and no luck. And it seems like those who do conceive have miscarriages soon after. Its like 80% of the women who get pg have a miscarriage. Is this linked to the depo? Age? Im 22 and am trying to conceive #2. (my son is 6 now) I am so scared that it might happen to me.
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar f tn However, I'm sure it could happen, just like pregnancy can happen on depo, but the chances are pretty low. I had a very large cyst grow while on depo, but mine was not a functional one.
Avatar n tn I had a previous post about wondering if I am pregnant or not, but I am also wondering if it is possible for me to get pregnant so soon. In May of 2004 I begin the Depo-Provera shot and then got my second shot in August, before my third shot in November I decided to switch to the pill due to some complications. So I have been on the pill since mid November of 2004. I know that Depo-Provera can stay in your system anywhere from 12 to 24 months. My husband and I have recently decided to TTC.
432411 tn?1206475709 I think doctors should explain the complications of even possibly having low thyroid levels after taking Depo Provera instead of hair loss/ weight gain. I was only 18 2 years ago when I had the shot and never had another shot afterwards. Yeah it was the easiest BC and I didn't have to worry about a thing for 3 months but now I have to take Synthroid every day for the rest of my life. That was the worst thing I could have ever done to my body.
Avatar n tn I am now 23, almost 24, I started Depo Provera when I was 16. I was due for my most recent shot in October, but missed the appointment and decided to see how I fare off the shot. I have been very moody, verging on depression, and having an impossible time losing weight for some time now and I was beginning to wonder if maybe Depo was the culprit. Well, to make a long story short, during the month of October I have become severely bulimic.
Avatar f tn I have a 7mm protrusion coming from my pituitary that in all clinical reality should be called a tumor. There is also a void in my pituitary that was left from "old tumor that out grew it's blood supply". I have been dealing with the railroad spike in the head headaches for years. They are now controlled with medication. I have been experiencing severe joint pain a week before my period and as soon as menstruation starts it is gone. Completely.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
Avatar n tn You guys have been a lot of help so I hope you can help me! I started Depo Provera back in October of 2006 and have only received one of the 3 month dose. I got the shot when I was on my period. My period used to last 3 days then go away completely. A few days later, I would have a brownish discharge for just a few hours. I was told this is normal since your body is getting rid of some of the old blood and tissue. Well, after Depo, I bled the entire three months.
Avatar n tn The effects of depo Provera can last for up to 18 months. So, it is entirely possible that you are still having after effects. If you were my patient, I would probably begin a work up for infertility though, starting with ovulation predictors. If you ARE ovulating, we would continue looking for other problems such as blocked tubes or low sperm count. Good luck!
1945416 tn?1324169477 Hello, If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. This kind of spotting can be due to hormonal effects by depo shots or due to return of your periods. It will take a few cycles for the regular menstrual cycles to come back to the normal self. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar f tn I usually respond terribly to hormone treatments but I'm in such a terrible and desperate position right now that I just started taking the Depo provera shot. Last Tuesday to be exact. Still in excruciating pain and have searched the net high & low for days for the answer to this question. Has anyone here tried this treatment for endo pain and gotten relief? Was wondering how long it usually takes to start working for pain.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar f tn This early on, and because you stopped taking it promptly, your little one will be just fine! I know someone who was on Depo Provera for 8 months before she even found out she was pregnant (she went into labor and had no idea she was pregnant). The only issue was a low birthweight baby (he was a tiny thing). But that was after taking it throughout her entire pregnancy, unknowingly. A little over a week of it won't do anything. Congrats!
Avatar f tn Hi! If you conceived while on depo shot or took Depo Provera just after conceiving then usually there is no harm to baby. However, yes, the baby can have low birth weight or birth defects (less likely). You must immediately inform your Obs and Gyn, so that they are extra careful about monitoring your baby for birth defects and weight etc. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn Depo vera is injected every 12 weeks while the contraceptive has the power to prevent conception up to 14 weeks, the injections are usually given every 12 weeks to ensure that there is no gap in the effectiveness of the birth control between shots. If such a schedule is maintained, pregnancy while on Depo-Provera is extremely rare .Mood changes, nausea, weight gain, menstrual cramps, vaginal itching, low sex drive are few of the side effects of using implanon.
1394877 tn?1280268960 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end. Sometimes the side effects are easily to control while other times...
Avatar n tn Yes, Depo Provera can and often does make you gain weight. Lots of people have used it and gained weight on it.
Avatar n tn The pelvic scan showed no issues but the trans vaginal revealed a right side ovarian cyst, which my GP felt was most likely functional. I am on Depo Provera contraceptive jab and have not had a period in many years so this seemed odd to me!! I am now seeing a private gynaecologist who arranged another scan - he didn't seem to consider functional cysts an option either.
