Depo provera going off

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera going off

Avatar f tn If you came off of the depo provera , theres no side effects when you come off of it but you may get your period back. I went off of the depo provera for 3 yrs ago and it took another 3 yrs. to get pregnant.
505857 tn?1329685117 I was on depo for 3 yrs, and luckily got AF the first month off depo. Personally, I believe if you are having regular periods, you need to buy some ovulation predictor tests, and see if your even ovulating. They're pretty expensive but you get alot of them, just test each day....etc. what the directions say on the box. That way you'll know if it's because your not ovulating... or whatnot.
Avatar f tn Hey guys im 22 and i was on depo provera for 9 years.I came off back in jully and have been off it for 7 months now.My periods are starting to go back to normal.I have been trying to get pregnant for seven months and still no luck! I have been having sex 1 or twice a day for that whole time. Im really worried that my bodys messed up after being on it such a long time. Has anyone else had this problem?
Avatar n tn If you want to try and do it naturally, then just wait it out. I too got cramps and very uneasy feelings down in my pelvis when I was going off of Depo. It's going to be hard for a few months, but do not add more stress to yourself. Keep in mind that stress can also keep your cycle away.
273379 tn?1213044686 I am fed up asking but i'm fed up with all the signs, I have been off depo fro just over 2 months and haven't had a period as yet. My breasts are killing me and i have never had this before, i have slight cravings for chocolate and cakes and my bowel movements have been pretty bad anything i eat is coming straight back out. Sorry if it's to much info.
Avatar f tn I have been on the Depo Provera shot for more than 5 years now. I read that the recommended amount of time that a young woman should be on Depo is only 2 years. I am 20 now and I have been on it since I was 15. I have tried to come off of it once. I bled for about 3 weeks and then got back on it. Currently I have all kinds of pain. Back, kness, neck, arms, and I have migraines. I read about a calcium deficiency when doing research about Depo Provera.
Avatar n tn No matter how long you are on it, it can take 12-18 months to fully get depo provera out of your system. I had a hard time after depo, my body started going through withdrawls of the drug and I had a cyst on my ovary from depo which was causing me not to ovulate.
4069776 tn?1349521984 Hello, I was on depo provera for 9 years, I had my last shot in Jan 2012 and was suppose to come get my next shot April 2012, My doctor informed me that it would be fine for me to just stop taking it because I did so well while I was on it and that I should be fine coming off of it, well I didnt. I had horrible side effects from July and they are still happening now, I have had every test done (ultrasounds, blood test, endoscopes, ect.) and everything came back normal.
Avatar n tn i was on the minipill for two years i am not getting my period now doctor wants to put me on depo provera she claims after awhile the affectiveness of the minpill wears off and depo would be best for me being that it is also a progesteron only contraceptive and will continue not getting my period am afraid because of all the bad things i hear about it any suggetions?
Avatar n tn I've never taken Depo-Provera but I've heard alot about how it can 'mess up' your cycle. Every one reacts different to it. It can help you but also make your cycles worse. I'm sorry I can't help you much here. But overall, I don't like Depo because of all the things I've heard about it. I've heard more disadvantages then advantages to using it. If you continue to have these problems w/ it, then I suggest you change your contraceptive to something else.
Avatar n tn I went off Depo Provera after 2 shots in January. I was supposed to get my injection mid-January but didn't. Now I'm having nausea every day - almost all day long - fatigue, and sleepiness. Mid-March, I had some spotting just for a couple of days, followed by SEVERE breast swelling and pain. Then I had what seemed to be a normal period two weeks ago (5 days long, not very heavy, no cramping).
Avatar n tn I have been off depo-provera for about a year now, I had a regular 4 day period about 21 days ago, for the past few days I've had a little bleeding, dark brown, definetly not regular period flow. Could this be implantation bleeding? Or is my body still just out of whack from the depo.
Avatar n tn To any concern about going on Depo i would never go on the stuff again. It screws up your whole system, don't get me wrong its nice not to have a period on it but its not healthy at all! Your body is not doing what it normally does. Anyways, after you get off the pill you can gain alot of water weight and it can take up to 10 to 18 months to conceive. I would rather go on the pill than the depo any day. Trust me i was on it for 5 years.
Avatar n tn I have been off depo for 2months now & my breast are soooooo soar! I had sex 3times after getting off depo with a condom. The condom didn't bust or anything but I have been so scard thinking I was pregnant... I knw I'm not but I cry so easily now, my breast are soar & to top it off I still have milk in my breast from when I had my youngest son. So it's very scary!! I have two kids so I knw da feeling to be pregnant & its very similar coming off depo.
Avatar f tn It is possible that you could be pregnant, and I ALWAYS recommend taking a test. It can take up to 18 months for the effects of Depo Provera to wear off, or they can wear off any time in between stopping it and 18 months. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I had only taken one depo provera shot and was due to have my second one between June 30 and July 13, I didn't take the second one. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex July 2nd-5th every day. Is it possible that I'm pregnant? I have had slight bleeding almost every day since but it recently stopped, it was just like spotting, not a flow, only a tinge of color when wiping. I am having many symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, extreme fatigue, headaches, bleeding gums, etc).
Avatar n tn I had the same problem as Nickie5. I had two healthy childred, I was on Depo-Provera for about 3 years. When I stopped taking the injections I bleed for 3 months straight. My cycle hasn't been the same since (about 10 years now). From start to finish, it lasts appx. 2 weeks!!! I have also had 2 miscarriages and would like to know what to do (if anything) to reverse the damage (if any).
Avatar n tn be warned when comin off depo ur periods may still not happen for a while. i went a year after comin off it before my periods started again!
Avatar n tn I was reciving depo-provera for close to 7 years, I am now off of it since Aug.19 2005. I started bleeding about one week before my shot was due and still am spotting. I now have a very bad vaginal smell and discharge, it is kinda green and smells like death...I used tampons a lot during the two months I was having a period. I have no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have been on Depo-provera for nearly two months now, and have been on several other birth controls to try and regulate my period. None of the pills ever worked, I continued to bleed irregularly with heavy blood flow, and periods lasting up to 8 weeks. My doctor and I tried LUPRON to stop my periods, and it worked well for about six months. Due to insurance refusing to pay, I switched to Depo-Provera. I started bleeding two weeks ago, with all the sypmtoms of a regular period.
Avatar n tn Then I was diagnosed with osteopenia, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and NOW depo-induced menopause. Are they all related to depo-provera use? I was taking it for 5 years. In what order do I treat this set of disorders? Why is my jaw the primary target? Will the bone loss stop, reverse? My endocrinologist said I should be taking hormone-replacement therapy, but that's what started me on this road to begin with! Help! I really don't want to have menopause twice. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I had been on the Depo Provera shot for about 12 months. My last one was in February. I stopped having a period by my second dose. For various reasons, I had decided not to continue with the shots. However, I still have not had a period and I am having tender breasts, cramps, bloating etc a couple of times a month, as if I am going to get a period, but it never comes. My "PMS" symptoms seem worse than they ever did before Depo or while on it.
Avatar n tn I suffered so many side effects with the shot I had to go off it and back onto the pill. Mr Dr hates the Depo shot and was glad when I wanted to go back on the pill. But I did go on the Ortho Evra Patch when that first came out and that was really good. I'm off bc now since we are ttc. But when we're done I'm going back on the patch or maybe the new bc pill that is a dissolving pill you chase with a glass of water.
4069776 tn?1349521984 I am wondering if any one else is going through Depo Provera withdrawals? I was on it for 9 years and recently me and my husband decided to go off of it since we knew that this form of birth control can take up to 18 months if you are ttc. i was due for my shot in April and when the time came I went to my doctor to discuss getting off of it and the possible side effect or problems that I might encounter. He basically assured me that nothing will happen because I did so well while I was on it.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
Avatar n tn I have a friend that got pregnant after her first period off Depo, (baby is fine, nothing from Depo affected her) so I really think it's very individual as to when we will "bounce back" and our cycles will be ready, willing & able to give us what we dream, so keep your chin up and hope for the best! BABY DUST FOR EVERYONE!
Avatar n tn Is depo-provera linked with infertility! I am a 24 and at the age of 20, I had 2 injections of depo-provera. Ever since, my period could me counted as almost none except when I am extreamely stress wich happen only 2 times. Other than that, nothing. I had a physical, inner & outer ultrasound & blood word and everthing was A1. So my doctor thinks I might be infertile. Before taking depo-provera, my periods were normal.
Avatar n tn How effective is the depo provera birth control shot? ( Is it 'ok' to do it without a condom every once in a while, WITHOUT him going inside me?
Avatar n tn I was on Depo provera for a few years, in 1999 I went off of it and I got pregnant,I was thrilled untill I started bleeding, I went to the hospital and found out I had miscarried, I had tried to get pregnant since then and I was prescribed Clomid last year. I got pregnant again, but lost that baby at 9 weeks. it has been heartbreaking. i cry everyday. I know now that it was because of the Depo. I have a hard time when all of my friends around me are getting pregnant with no problem.
