Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
Avatar f tn I know you posted this post a while ago but do you know all the facts about depo-provera. I was on it for 2 and a half years and came off it to ttc in aug 08 i am still trying 18 months later as the depo made me infertile, it could take 2 years for the depo alone to leave your system. I would strongly suggest if yu haven't already find a different contraception and i know a lot of women will agree with me on this site!!
Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar f tn You have to understand that not only do I have Endo, but because of the consistent mis-diagnoses, and other birth controls to temporarily stop the bleeding, the uterus continues to create the lining that is causing me pain, that lining never stops shedding for me, when on Depo provera I bled right through that, yet it was brown blood, old blood. Same thing with the nexplanon, all brown blood. So along with the pain, I also bleed 24/7.
1344197 tn?1392822771 Compounded Bioidentical Hormones have received a great deal of coverage in news, on talk shows, and in magazines over the past several years. Avatar n tn I am 7 weeks pregnant and it was planned. I was on the depo-provera shot and it took me 7 months after getting off of it to conceive. According to the facts about the depro-provera shot, it can take up to 1 year to get pregnant after your last shot but, everybodies body is different. If you are not a fast breeder like myself, then you should be fine. Hope I was of some help. Good Luck!!!!
661650 tn?1302286158 (Other factors such as naturally occurring miscarriages and surprise pregnancies would have some impact on the numbers.) The longer-lasting (three months) Depo-Provera injection acts by altering the lining of the uterus, preventing implantation of the newly conceived life. Based on one million users with an ovulation rate of 40 to 60 percent, combined with a 25-percent conception rate, yields either 1.2 million chemical abortions per year, or on the higher end, 1.8 million a year.
Avatar f tn There are more facts that you can read about if you google 'Depo-Provera Facts and Side Effects'. If you have serious anxiety or depression, this may not be the birth control for you ~ speak with your doctor about this first before you decide... A few more common side effects are: changes in menstrual cycle (which can include irregular periods, no periods, and spotting); fatigue, weight gain, headaches, and sometimes dizziness.
242942 tn?1287020289 She and her boyfriend decided they were ready to start having sex but didn't want their parents to know. So, he took her to Planned Parenthood where they gave her the Depo Provera shots. A few months later she began getting pretty sick. Her mom took her to the doc and they ran some blood tests and found out that her thyroid was extremely messed up. At that point she didn't tell her mom or the doctor that she was on the birth control. She got much sicker.
Avatar f tn Hi! The Depo Provera shot is birth control. IF you get your shot on time and never miss your appointments, it is about 99% effective. Be sure to take a calcium supplement daily--some of the gummy ones are great! It is pretty common for her bleeding to be irregular when a woman is on Depo Provera. Usually it stops altogether after awhile. This is not a bad thing. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Alright, let's be rational about this. Facts are that you had unprotected sex, no condom, no birthcontrol. This causes the possiblity of pregnancy. Therefore, your next step should be to test yourself at home, and if yes, have yourself re-tested just to be sure. If no, then if it were me, l would think about being more careful next time.
Avatar n tn You can get transient small ovarian cysts due to the Depo-Provera, but not generally clinically significant ones." I was curious why my lack of periods began immediately after I discontinued the birth control shot. I decided to do a google search "depo cysts" and I've been reading quite a few stories about other women who had developed cysts after using the shot. Some had side effects years later... others took birth control pills and went back to normal.
Avatar f tn I just went to the doctor yesterday and got everything checked out. I had a pap in September and got put back on the Depo-Provera shot. I was negative for the STDs, positive for HPV. By now, after drinking the cranberry juice, the intense burning had subsided. I don't know if whatever it was had run its course, or if the cranberry juice had helped a possible UTI. The bubbly discharge was nearly gone.
Avatar f tn Two days after the encounter, I went to my GP and asked for the morning after pill which she was happy to give as well as a three month Depo-Provera shot as birth control. For a day, all was well. And then I developed a terrible sore throat. I went back to my GP and she prescribed me with Penicillin antibiotics for my throat, as she said I had tonsilitis (my right tonsil was particularly inflammed) which healed the infection very quickly.
Avatar f tn I did try several birth-control methods when I was in my 20s and 30s's such as Norplant, the pill and Depo Provera but I had many adverse reactions to them. Mainly and most bothersome..., my periods became reversed and I was on my period for three weeks and then off for one week. I haven't been given any info on the other options as to date.
Avatar f tn the patch,nuva-ring,depo-provera, and just about every pill you can think of. Not only did they not work but they caused the worst side effects and I am not allergic to anything. I have been controlling my diet for some time now watching my carb intake and was on glucophage for a while with no results. I have irregular periods sometimes a year on and a year off and extremely they are usually heavy and painful.
298137 tn?1223311052 I was put on BCP's--- I never became sexually active being put on the pill, taking the BCP's they didn't work so I was given the depo-provera injection. At the time taking the depo shot stopped my heavy bleeding. My mother didn't do a lot to help me for the future. She didn't seem to concerned with my future fertility. Lets see.... Years later, When I was 23 yrs old. I was about to get married. So I got the depo-provera shot, this caused me to bleed for about 9months- 1 year.
Avatar n tn i have a 10 yr old , after i had him i went on the depo shot for 3 months and had to stop it because it made me so sick but it also took usalmost 6 months to concieve our son, so no 10 years later no other children and not from lack of trying...
384896 tn?1335297931 Depo-provera Mini-Pill Mirena Copper IUD Three of those four are easily reversible. I will advise against using condoms alone, they are not terribly reliable. And nursing is not an effective form of birth control. Talk with your doctor and find a reliable form of birth control. If you do not like the methods available, either don't have sex or be prepared to deal with the consequences. By the way, I was on Mirena for over a year and loved it.
Avatar n tn I have endometriosis and I cannot take an oral form of birth control. It made all my symptoms worse. However, I have been on depo provera, a birth control shot, for years and it has worked wonders!!! Just an idea. I don't know why it acts differently, but it definitely has been making life bearable.
Avatar n tn I've had 2 learn how to regulate my vaginas behavior. Condems realy leave a bad smell on my vagina after intercourse. During sex I hav no smell at all I mean water. Then later I will sweat a metalic oder. Bv was very hard to control but I found this homopathic treatment sort of like vitamins to keep ur vagina clean and ph balanced.

341240 tn?1203121451 ) BUT the majority of the time it doesn't work, esp. for younger teens! I actually got on Depo Provera shot @ 17 1/2 because I got on a high risk medicine for my skin problem. (its genetic, my mom and gma have it and this baby has a %50/50 of having it.) It's called EHK. it was a godsend to me, and my mom knew we were having sex by then, but still didn't want me on BCP. Anywayse, I had bad side effects w/depo I gained 50 lbs!!! BUT I didn't get pregnant, and it kept us protected.
Avatar n tn My gyno prescribed it because I had been on the depo and was having irregular periods. I have only been taking it for about five days, and I was just wondering if I could get pregnant while on it? Because on the 11th I believe I started ovulating (this is the first time since I quit the depo) and I am wondering if the combination of the pill, and the provera the hospital put me on kind of shocked my body back into normalcy.
Avatar n tn Listen, I don't want to be condescending here at all. I know your position, but I'm telling you the facts. Obviously neither of you guys would like to have children right now. But sex is both a great thing and a huge responsibility. For both of you the chances are VERY slim. ...Very. But the very fact that you are both here, freaking out about very similar things proves a point.
196469 tn?1365391575 But, progesterone cannot be patented and so the company that makes Premarin came up with a Progestin, as Katie pointed out, and they called it Provera (Depo Provera is a relative of this). The two drugs together, Premarin and Provera, Equal Prempro. It is now theorized that the Progestins are what helps create the big mess in the synthetic world of hormones. The snythetic estrogens are not great either ( I, like you, would only use a bio estrogen like Vivelle) but that Progestin is nasty.
