Depo provera discontinuation

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera discontinuation

Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Goodman, I wonder if you have any information about how Depo-Provera can change the symptoms of ovarian cancer v. ovarian cysts? I have been on Depo-Provera for two years and it seems that it would mask all the symptoms that are most likely to identify a cyst vs. a tumour. Do you know anything about how the two would look different in the presence of Depo-Provera?
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
Avatar f tn Your spotting is likely due to the Depo-Provera, which may also be contributing to headaches/migraines, nervousness and is not recommended for long-term use because of bone loss issues, which may be permanent, even after discontinuation of Depo-Provera. It may also put females at higher risk of getting HIV and other issues as progestin significantly thins vaginal walls.

Avatar n tn Resumption of fertility after removal of both copper-bearing and levonorgestrel- releasing IUDs is rapid and occurs at the same rate as resumption of fertility after the discontinuation of barrier methods of contraception.9 The incidence of term deliveries, spontaneous abortion, and ectopic pregnancies in conceptions occurring after IUD removal is the same as in the general population not using any form of contraception.
