Depo provera and pms

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and pms

Avatar n tn I don't know why this would make you lose weight, but it will have no interaction at all with birth control whether pills or Depo Provera. Depo Provera has been implicated with weight gain. Some say it is the increased appetite due to the potent progestin, but probably more than that. Some women won't gain an ounce, but others will put it on very quickly. The number of meds that actually have the potential to make birth control less effective is very short.
Avatar n tn i came off the depo provera 5 months ago and i have very sore nipples and heavy boobs is this normal
Avatar n tn To re-hash, I was put on Depo-Provera for endometriosis. I'm at the end of the second month of its three month effective range, and everything's been fine so far. (I had surgery on 5/17, light bleeding until about the beginning of the second week of June, then nothing since *yay*). For the past 3-4 days, I've been getting that 'pre-period' feeling (slightly *ugh*, little crampy on the side where the cyst was, and mucousy discharge.
1891325 tn?1321126576 What you listed describes what I feel exactly. I used to be an incredibly happy, bubbly person, and these mood swings are killing me! I really like the convenience of not having to worry about taking a pill, it's not that I mind pills at all, but my schedule as a college student varies so much it's hard to find a time to take it consistently. If I had a steady schedule where I could take a pill every day at the same time, I would much rather do that than have an injection.

193609 tn?1292183893 I have heard a lot about negative aspects of the Depo provera shot! Has anyone had a good experience?? One doc says I can have it, and another says No, so I am just wondering your opinions!!! Thanks!

17568 tn?1424977159 This suggestion might be off the wall, but you could ask the doctors. I used to use a contraceptive called Depo Provera. I had the common side effect (or additional benefit) that I no longer had monthly periods. The birth control is in the form of a shot that you get every three months, which would be bad if you had an adverse reaction to it since you would have to wait three months for it to wear off, but perhaps it is available in another form.
Avatar n tn You girls have to discontinue Depo Provera at once and I highly recommend never putting any hormones into your bodies ever again. I have experienced a living nightmare from Depo Prover for the past three years. After I got the Depo shot I went home and researched on the web about the drug. I cried for three hours in fear that that could happen to me. What happened was worse. Five days after the shot a menstrual cycle started that would not cease. It wasn't a normal cycle.
Avatar n tn you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
Avatar n tn I'm hoping that someone out there may be able to give me some pointers on what to do next or share similar experiences with me... 4yrs ago I stopped taking Depo Provera injections as I was admitted to hospital 3 times with suspected thrombosis; on the 3rd visit a vein in my leg had "popped out" and had to be surgically removed.
Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again.'s free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
Avatar n tn Yes, Depo Provera can and often does make you gain weight. Lots of people have used it and gained weight on it.
Avatar n tn I was on depo for about a month after my son was born, and I said never again. I'm now having alot of problems and I'm not sure if its from that or just other things. I would say go get checked out to be safe. I have my period that last me for 2 months straight but this time it lasted 2 months straight took 1 week off, started back up and now its still on an every other day routine.
Avatar f tn for the past 2 1/2 years I have been bleeding abnormally. It started when I first started the depo provera. I stayed on it for 9 months trying to work with my OB GYN to figure out why I was bleeding so much. She put me on estrogen pills because I'm a small person and didn't have the fat cells to store the estrogen. I bled more when I took the pills so I stopped taking them and just got off the shot.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo since feb 2005 and had my last needle sept 2005. December 15 i started to get heavy bleeding the time when i was due for my next needle. the bleeding stoped around december 25, since then around the middle of january i experienced two days of some light brown spotting only when i wiped. i've been having some early signs of pregnancy like being tired, fuller breast, frequent trips to the bathroom, neausa, headache, and bloating.
Avatar n tn Now i am waiting for my gynecologist appointment to come through.I am so worried at the moment.I am sure it is because of Depo Provera AND NOT CANCER.I told her that i have read a lot of reviews of woman who had the sam on going bleeding for months, but she kind of ignored that. I just wonder how will they stop that bleeding? When it is going to stop?
Avatar n tn Hi, My name is Stephanie and I got off of the Depo Shot in March of this year, I got on Paxil Cr in May of this year and in July of this year I had a period. The problem is, I haven't had a period since! All the pregnancy tests that I have taken were negative. I was wondering if the Paxil can give you a negative reading or I don't know mess up my period in some way. Please Help Me I am going CRAZY! Thank you and all of your responses would be helpful!
Avatar f tn im 20 yrs old and i have been on the depo shot for a month and i have been on my period for 16 days when will it stop??? and is it normal ???
Avatar f tn They took me off them. I started the depo-provera and stayed on that for many years. I wanted off all contraceptives and so in 07 and got my tubes tied. I am 38 now and I swear, I cramp and hurt for at least TWO weeks before I ever even start. Once I start, it's fine. That lasts a good 5 days. Basically, I get ONE good week out of every month. The rest of the time, I am miserable and so is everyone around me, including my boyfriend. This CANNOT be normal.
494669 tn?1275366075 I have been off Depo-Provera for 11 months now and still haven't conceived. Every month i have the same symptoms you are describing and every month i have the same negative result. I was also told afetr i came off the injection it could take me anything from a year to 2 years to conceive.
Avatar n tn Preg tests measure bHCG in your blood. Depo-provera contains progesterone. Depo can give you PMS type symptoms, which can often be similar to early preg. If you are still concerned, go to your doc and get a bHCG blood test done. The blood test is very accurate.
Avatar f tn I hate having my period because not only are they uncomfortable but I go through severe pms. I asked the doctor for them and she prescribed them for me. However, I've been bleeding (having my periods) for three months now! What's the purpose of taking these pills if now I bleed everyday! It's a really dark bloody discharge that stains my underwear. I have to wear tissue or panty liners everyday. I am not happy with the results. I've been taking lybrel every moning when I wake up.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with a fatty liver after taking depo provera - which is a third world injectable progestin (synthetic progesterone) - it causes full blown osteo in 19year olds. Very dangerous - all kinds of court cases - Pfizer. So, a Naturopath v.s multiple surgeries now seem to be the path I am going down. Your exhaustion may well be core toxicity, neurotransmitters which are out of balance and low projesterone and a weak thyroid.
136956 tn?1425609872 Half the time I had break through bleeding and the other times I turned into a complete b**ch!! I also tried the Depo Provera which is supposed to stop your periods - Yeah I bled for 9 months STRAIGHT until the stupid GYN finally took me off of it. Nothing helped with the pain and growing of endo, so I just went off of them... I felt so much better after that (and saved some $ too!). I never went on the lupron even though they highly suggested it...
497047 tn?1210002233 52 in a couple of months and since I am having symptoms...fatigue, slight weight gain, loss of appetite, dry skin and hair, pins and needles in hands and feet, hoarse voice, mild depression...he just started me on synthroid. Then I read that Lithium can affect your thyroid. I dug around and found a bunch of old labs from those years that I saw the psychiatrist (I no longer do). I wanted to post some of these test results and see if anyone had any feedback.
Avatar n tn Do you mean depo provera or provera the hormone drug to jump start your AF? Either way, I have used both, I have been off Depo for a year this month and my body is finally starting to get "normal" after the shot.
Avatar n tn Yes i do have those little side effects with it like, headaches and some nausea and nervousness. But my PMS is extremly under control now and my skin has cleared up tremendously. I went from a pill similar to Ortho Tricyclin (high hormone) to Yaz which is a lesser hormone and it's done wonderful things for me. The Ortho Tricyclin on put me through major mood swings and i couldn't kick the last few pounds after having my daughter and my skin was horrible.
Avatar n tn 8 years ago i was hospitalized for depression and given prozac which 'cured' it for awhile, but lately ive been feeling depressed, especially around my period, and read that The Pill eased PMS symptoms. i tried Depo Provera once and it made my depression worse and im wondering is there any oral contraceptives that will ease my PMS but wont worsen my depression? i was also wondering is it possible to take antidepressants together with oral contraceptives?
