Depo provera and miscarriages

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and miscarriages

Avatar n tn I was on Depo for 3 years, then got off and the next month got AF right on time, then got on Nuvaring for three months. I didn't like the weight gain w/this one either (10lbs) so I got off. It took 3 cycles to become pregnant, and we WERENT trying. Ihad been using fertility awareness. So far KNOCK ON WOOD!!! I'm 15w today!. It may be the projesterone, or just your body not acclimated to being pregnant yet since the Shot makes your body think it's pregnant.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo Provera for about 8 years when my husband and I decided to try for another baby. I received my last injection in September 2006. I was pregnant by March 07 but miscarried at 5 weeks. We waited until December to try again and just miscarried that one at 9 weeks. After having 2 healthy children with no pregnancy complications, I am led to believe that this is an effect of the Depo injections.
Avatar n tn The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
Avatar n tn I am in a group where all the women are trying to conceive after the depo provera. Many have been trying to conceive for years, and no luck. And it seems like those who do conceive have miscarriages soon after. Its like 80% of the women who get pg have a miscarriage. Is this linked to the depo? Age? Im 22 and am trying to conceive #2. (my son is 6 now) I am so scared that it might happen to me.
Avatar n tn no period for 9 mos then period with heavy bleed every 2 weeks for 6 mos infertile for 18 mos 2 confirmed miscarriages at 5 weeks progesterone defficient luteal phase defect that untreated leads to miscarriage so there is what the future holds on depo. once you have taken the shot it takes 12-18 mos to leave your body when you stop. there is no reversal to it!!!
2088277 tn?1332639662 I was on the Depo Provera injection for about 6 years. I stopped it and had my last injection on the 29th August 2011. I didn't have any periods at all when I was on the Depo, but this week I think I started my first one in over 6 years. I started it on Monday and it's been fairly heavy with clots. It is dark brown in colour, even the clots, and is slightly smelly. There is no sign of it getting any lighter, and I'm having to change my tampon every 3 hours or so.
Avatar n tn Hello, Depo-Provera is a long-acting progestin (hormone) form of birth control. It was seen in studies that after a year of Depo-Provera injections, 57% of women were not menstruating and after 2 years, 68% of women were not menstruating. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn here is my web site and depo group web address. please feel free to take a look and ask me questions!!! love...kimmie
Avatar f tn I gave birth 3months ago and I breast fed the first month then dried up so I got on Depo Provera for birth control mid April. They told me to use protection the first 30 days but after that I should be fine but now I am having pregnancy symptoms and worried about the possibility of being pregnant bc some medicine my doctor had me try said it could cause miscarriages... I haven't took a test but everything I've found says the first 2months after depo there's been accidental pregnancies.
519661 tn?1264519808 (i had gotten pregnant 3 out of 5 times on the pill) she said my body needed a rest, and i agreed. i was on depo for a year and a half and decided to stop taking the shot. i have been off depo since may (my shot was due may 1st) so it has been six months. in september i finally had my period again, but it lasted FOREVER....almost a month. (i could have sworn for about month before i started, that i was pregnant again!
Avatar n tn it has been proven that the less weight you gained on depo the quicker your fertilty will come back...depo is stored in the fat ceels and causes weight gain. so if you gained weight on depo ...try to lose it and drink plenty of water and use other methods to detoxify the body. the problem with getting PG too soon off depo is not that one is infertile it is that one's body has not gotten back completely to normal. lower progesterone is common and a thin uterine lining as well.
Avatar n tn Also, my girlfriend was also on the shot and has had 2 miscarriages. Can this be related to the shot. My gny has offered to put on a fertility drug to help me get pregnant. What do you think? I would appreciate any information you could give me. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I want terribly to get pregnant and wondered if you could tell me how long it may take? Also, my girlfriend was also on the shot and has had 2 miscarriages. Can this be related to the shot. My gny has offered to put on a fertility drug to help me get pregnant. What do you think? I would appreciate any information you could give me. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi! I had my first baby in January of 2006 and I got the depo provera shot 2 days after she was born. It lasted for 3 months, and then I had to get another one... But I decided not to because after I had the baby I gained 50 pounds in 3 months because of the shot. So I went on the pills... 3 months after I stopped the Depo, I was pregnant again! So in my case it didn't take long to conceive after getting the stupid thing. I hope everything works out for you, and you get what your wishing for!!!!
Avatar f tn Okay first off im 24 and my husband is 24. We went today and got a semen count and everything. I was on depo for maybe 3 months, might have been 6 months... now this was back in 2002. It took me almost 2 years to even get my period back. I had regular periods EVERY month before i got on the shot. Now 7 years later and we have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years. This sux. We have spent sooo much money on ovulation tests. And Nothing. We have done ev erything. An d now, im a wits end.
Avatar m tn I was told by my doctor and even the pharmacist that Depo Provera has had some issues in it's dark past and gave me a lot of info before I made the decision of going on it. I went on it because at the time the pill didn't fit in my busy schedule. Although there's been arguements of depo causing miscarriages, other birth controls (like the pill) also cause miscarriages. Sadly it happens to any kind of medication you put into your body. Do you know that depo causes blood calcium loss?
Avatar n tn I was on provera in Dec 05 and Jan 06 and I now am 9 weeks pregnant. Provera used to be given as a pregnancy test. If you took it and had a period then you were not pregnant and if you took it and didnt have a period then you were pregnant. Provera or the generic that you are talking of is pretty much progesterone and it will help your uterus. Dont worry it wont harm a pregnancy. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn 3 days ago, we learned that the left cyst had shrunk considerably and the right cyst was gone. I gladly took my second shot of Depo and went on my way. I have had an ongoing migraine since the day after the shot (2 days) and began researching this drug. Everything I read says that I should not be getting this shot. I had migraines prior to this, but over the past 3 months they have intensified greatly. My readings also revealed that Depo can cause clots! I'm already high risk for clots, so wth!
Avatar n tn strange menstrual cycles) At first I had spotting on and off every month after I started depo and after my last depo shot I never got the spotting or anything. I was constantly trying to lose weight. I didn't know how to get the weight off. I'm still 135. Been that since I gave birth to my daughter. No diet pills or diet will work for me. I haven't had my period or any spotting since my last shot and I'm still breastfeeding my daughter. But a few days ago I started feeling queasy.
1219499 tn?1410753330 I'm really glad you posted this. My cousin had 2 miscarriages and found out that she needed to have her hormones adjusted. I think she might have had a progesterone shot. She said her problem was probably caused by years on the Depo shot. I don't know though. I've recently had 2 miscarriages and was planning on getting my hormones checked before I TTC again, as I was on Depo-Provera for years don't know whether or not that affected me.
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar f tn I was about 5'9'' 210lbs when I got pregnant....I had gained 50lbs previously from being on Depo Provera and had not been able to lose the weight yet. So far I have only gained about 20lbs with this pregnancy and Im 37 weeks 2days. My dr hasnt said anything about being overweight to me. And I havent had any trouble with GD or BP (mine is the normal 120/80 everytime). My Dr says I have a very healthy baby that will be around 8lbs when born.
1432700 tn?1283377350 So they tried depo shots which was a failure as well. I had 3 doctors say that my body had quit ovulating and wouldn't ever ovulate again. Finally to keep me from bleeding to death they tried a mirena. It stopped the irregular bleeding but I had weird side affects. I was warned that if I had the mirena removed that there was no medicine left to try and the bleeding would return. I had it removed anyway after 2.5 years. Instead of constant bleeding, my periods began to skip.
661650 tn?1302286158 (Other factors such as naturally occurring miscarriages and surprise pregnancies would have some impact on the numbers.) The longer-lasting (three months) Depo-Provera injection acts by altering the lining of the uterus, preventing implantation of the newly conceived life. Based on one million users with an ovulation rate of 40 to 60 percent, combined with a 25-percent conception rate, yields either 1.2 million chemical abortions per year, or on the higher end, 1.8 million a year.
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
Avatar n tn I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.
965270 tn?1247336313 The last time i spotted was for two days on June 5th and 7th and that was only when wiping. june 18th i recieved my 2nd depo injection. And my question is, could i have gotten pregnant that soon after my misscariage? or has the birth control failed? If it runs in the family, I was a child of birth control, so maybe the failure of it runs in my family?
Avatar f tn miscarriages and the symptoms mentioned were very similar. I also read that depo can prolong one period. Right now I don't know what to think, it feels as though my body has a mind of its own, and I can seem to figure out what's happened / still happening to my body.
1704255 tn?1307480090 im 15 and i havent had my period in 3 months its usual that i dont get it for 1 or 2 months so i thought i would get it 2 days ago because i was having realy bad cramps i went to the restroom and i had the urge to push so i did i felt something coming out of my vagina so i grabed it with toliet paper and pulled it out it hurt really bad for about an hour after it came out i freaked out so i called my mom And my Granma and they said it was a blood clot but it was white and only had a little bit o
Avatar n tn I am not sure about whether or not the cause of the miscarriages were due to the Depo-Provera but I did furthur research and wanted to share some info with those individuals that don't know. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone. I was very young when I took it and didn't get all of the details (ignorance). If I would have known that fact alone, I wouldn't have taken it. If you have a low Progestrone Level it will more than likely cause you to have a miscarriage. Now.....
